Whether you’re a family or a group of friends, this villa provides a comfortable base from which to explore Sardinia’s northwest coast. While Luculumbu Beach is within walking distance, there’s not much else to do in the surrounding area, so a car is a must here. The home itself is well-appointed and the views of the Mediterranean Sea from the swimming pool speak for themselves. Sun-seekers will love this Sardinian villa. It can be found in the village of Portobello di Gallura, just a short distance from the sandy shores of Cala Sassari. Its outside space is comprised of two large terraces with plenty of room for everyone to stretch out in the sun – and there are glorious sea views to admire. There's also a private pool. Inside the villa is crisp and modern, though you’ll have to pay for bed and bath linen (or bring your own). When you’re not at the beach, you can soak up the rays on the hiking and cycling trails of the Gallura area – it’s best to hire a car if you want to explore.

The view is everything here. This modern villa stands in Portobello di Gallura, just 800 metres from Baia dell’Amore beach, and boasts glorious views of the coast. From here you can explore the area's hidden coves and peaceful beaches on foot, and spend your evenings drinking in the spectacular sea sunsets. You’ll have a Jacuzzi to unwind in but no pool, so this home will really only appeal to those who enjoy sea swimming and the feel of sand underfoot. The twin rooms are ideal for children. Bedding and towels aren’t included in the price but can be provided for an additional fee.

Just 200 metres from the beach, this Sardinian home is a slice of serenity. The terrace boasts sea views, making it the ideal spot to enjoy an alfresco meal or evening tipple. Inside, the design is dated, sure, but we think it's rather cosy – though you will have to pay extra for linen and towels. When you're ready to venture further afield, Santa Teresa di Gallura is a 25-kilometre drive away and well worth a visit.

Now that's what we call a view. Whether you're relaxing on the balcony, swimming in the pool or whipping up a feast in the kitchen, you'll be able to watch the waves rolling in the sea. Although bed linen and towels are an additional cost, each bedroom is comfortable and cosy – but, as there's only space for eight around the table, we think ten guests will be a squeeze. Location-wise, Costa Paradiso is yours to discover. Li Cossi beach is less than a five-minute drive, with restaurants, bars and seasonal shops also within striking distance.

If you're staying in a home situated on the Sardinian coastline, it would be a crying shame if the address didn't have an outdoor spot from which to admire the majesty of the local landscape. Thankfully, this apartment in the north of the island really delivers on the front.

Not only is there a large sun terrace with 180-degree views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and Tavolara island, but there are two further verandahs with alfresco tables and a well-kept garden. There are pleasant views out through the home's windows too, which, thanks to the elevated position, also bring in lots of natural light. This asset works particularly well with the bright and contemporary design throughout, from the white walls and glossy kitchen surfaces to the rather striking head sculpture in the living space.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, there's a rock beach only eighty metres from the home and the sandy Spiaggia Mare Rocce is two hundred metres' walk. There's a decent choice of restaurants in the surrounding town of Pittulongu, while you can find a wider choice, plus some archaeological ruins, in the city of Olbia, just over fifteen minutes' drive away.


Tyrrhenian Delight

This villa has the feel of a sophisticated beach house. It’s sunny and bright, and it has a gorgeous garden with a private swimming pool. Best of all, it’s close to the golden sands and turquoise waters of Spiaggia Conca Verde, and faces La Maddalena Archipelago. Beautiful sea views can be admired from the covered terrace, and there are lots of cosy corners for romantic moments à deux. You won’t have free bedding or towels here, but your host has arranged for daily cleaning so you can focus on relaxing in the sunshine.

If you want to get some diving done while you’re in Sardinia, this could be the perfect base for you. This villa is in Santa Teresa di Gallura, just 450 metres from Baia Santa Reparata, a beach known for its colourful seabeds. You can also easily hop on a boat trip to explore La Maddalena Archipelago. When you’re on terra firma, you’ll enjoy the outside space here – the private pool and shaded terrace are where we’d be spending most of our time. Some of the decor is a little dated, but there’s also plenty of charm here – you’ll need to pay for bedding and towels though.

This villa stands in the village of Budoni, within easy reach of the beautiful Cala Brandinchi beach and Lu Impostu. The decor is simple, and there isn’t much space for everyone inside – but with views like this, you won’t be spending much time indoors. The terrace is a great spot for alfresco meals, and kids will love the private swimming pool. We recommend hiring a car so you can get out and explore more of Sardinia.

This gorgeous apartment sits in a renovated 19th-century building in the heart of the Old Town and offers stunning views in every direction. Our favourite bit is the expansive roof terrace, the ideal place to gather for soaking up the Corsican sunshine. The well-shaded dining area has its own barbecue so you can sit down to eat alfresco at lunchtime. There’s also a relaxing chill-out area, with wicker furniture and beanbags overlooking the Mediterranean sea below. If you can tear yourself away from your home's many little luxuries, you're only a fifteen-minute walk from a sandy beach and the charming marina filled with bobbing yachts, while just outside your door, the Old Town offers up restaurants, bars and plenty of cultural attractions including the impressive Église St-Jean-Baptiste.

Looking for a smart crash pad in Olbia’s bustling centre? This sea-facing home should do nicely. Granted, the interiors aren’t the most characterful, and there’s no kitchen or living space to speak of, but the private balcony is a nice touch for morning brews (and the coffee pod machine can help with those). Location-wise, you’ve got the best of this bustling port city at your feet.
