You’ll find this unfussy villa in northeast Sardinia, around 500 metres from Le Saline Beach and 11 kilometres from the city of Olbia, home to the medieval San Simplicio basilica and a palm-fringed waterfront. Back at the abode, two living areas provide plenty of space for the whole group to stretch out and the garden is the ideal spot to relax in the sunshine or shade. Granted, there’s no swimming pool here, but with the coast so easily accessible we don’t think you’ll mind too much.

Switch off and experience the beauty of Sardinia at this home in Punta Molara. Despite lacking wi-fi, the dappled veranda and private swimming pool will be a welcome distraction. The views are pretty great, too – and the alfresco dining table and outdoor sofa are perfect places to enjoy them. All the bedrooms are a good size – one is even located on the lower level with its own entrance – but you'll need to pay for bed linen and towels or bring your own. As for location, Cala Ginepro's crystal-clear waters and pebbled beach are 800 metres away, while the city of Olbia and its many cafe-flanked piazzas is a 12-kilometre drive.

If you're staying in a home situated on the Sardinian coastline, it would be a crying shame if the address didn't have an outdoor spot from which to admire the majesty of the local landscape. Thankfully, this apartment in the north of the island really delivers on the front.

Not only is there a large sun terrace with 180-degree views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and Tavolara island, but there are two further verandahs with alfresco tables and a well-kept garden. There are pleasant views out through the home's windows too, which, thanks to the elevated position, also bring in lots of natural light. This asset works particularly well with the bright and contemporary design throughout, from the white walls and glossy kitchen surfaces to the rather striking head sculpture in the living space.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, there's a rock beach only eighty metres from the home and the sandy Spiaggia Mare Rocce is two hundred metres' walk. There's a decent choice of restaurants in the surrounding town of Pittulongu, while you can find a wider choice, plus some archaeological ruins, in the city of Olbia, just over fifteen minutes' drive away.

It’s in a quiet residential area, with a supermarket, restaurant and bar all under a kilometre away and the buzzing coastal town of San Teodoro just 12 kilometres away. Location wise, you’re a short drive from the centre of Golfo Aranci, where you’ll find a picturesque harbour and a selection of restaurants and bars, and a fifteen minute drive from the historic town of Olbia.

Set just moment's from the seafront promenade for sunset strolls, and with the historic centre's wine bars and restaurant-lined plaza just a short walk away – the location is bang-on. Fancy a beach day? There are miles of uncrowded sandy coves just a short drive up the coast. Part of a new-build apartment building, the home's pared-back design may feel a little characterless for some. It's also worth noting there's no kitchen or living room facilities here. However, that sea-facing balcony helps to make up for that.

Elsewhere away from home, the crystal-blue waters of Golfo Aranci are 15 kilometres away and the beach of Liscia Ruja – one of the jewels of the Costa Smeralda – is 14 kilometres.

This villa is an excellent spot in which to admire the natural beauty of Sardinia. Thanks to the home's elevated position, guests get a wonderful view of the dazzling blue waters of Porto Rotondo from the upper floors. However, don't be surprised if the paradisical garden immediately below grabs your attention, too.

Out here in among the colourful flower beds and handsome granite walls, you can while away lazy afternoons paddling about in the swimming pool, catching some rays on the loungers or cooking up a storm in the outdoor kitchen (complete with a barbecue and pizza oven).

Inside, the home is spread across four floors, so while there are plenty of stairs, it feels cool and airy, thanks to the high ceilings, stark white walls and terracotta tiling underfoot. There's a discernible rustic theme to the design, from the wicker chairs and natural-themed artwork to the large rock feature in the main entrance hall.

With the nautical location, you might not be surprised to learn that there are two beaches that can be reached in just over a quarter of an hour's walk (Spiaggia dei Sassi and di Ira), while the historic city of Olbia takes a similar amount of time to reach in the car, too. Closer to home, there are a handful of restaurants, bars and discos in the local area.

You can flop down inside with a good book to hide from the heat, but we think you'll want to spend most of your time enjoying the fabulous outdoor space. Follow the path, and you'll find a chill-out zone, where you can relax with a glass of Pinot Grigio as you admire the sea views. And, there's even a sparkling swimming pool – take a dip before refueling with an alfresco meal cooked on the grill. 

If you're taking a boat with you, you can arrange to moor it at the Marina di Sa Jaga, just a short walk away. When you fancy a beach day, hop in the car and drive over to Spiaggia di Marinella for a day on the sand. And, if you're feeling adventurous, head inland to hike through the epic landscapes – there's no place quite like Sardinia.

Grab a dose of sea air along the promenade right outside your door, and when thoughts turn to food, head to the old town’s restaurant-lined plaza for the freshest seafood imaginable. Fancy a beach day? There are miles of uncrowded sandy coves waiting just a short drive away.

Nestled among junipers and olive trees, this charming villa boasts stunning views of the island of Tavolara. Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the various equipment at their disposal, such as paddle-boards, canoes, a basketball court and ping-pong table. Inside provides a welcome respite from the heat of the midday sun, with cool terracotta floors, traditional furniture and local handicrafts. You’re 2km away from a string of white sand beaches, as well as the Marina di Portisco with its selection of waterfront restaurants. The characterful borgo of San Pantaleo is just inland and is ideal for picking up fresh produce for an Italian style feast come the evening. You’ll want to be back home before the sun goes down though, for an aperitif with a view.

With an advantageous hillside position giving way to panoramic views of Palombaggia Bay, this home is all about tranquillity. You'll find a private swimming pool and alfresco dining table all positioned towards the scenery. Personally, we like the little observation nook. Two chairs create the perfect opportunity for a romantic sunset moment. Though the interior doesn't quite hold a candle to the surroundings, it's still comfortable. There's also more than enough room for a family or group of friends. As for location, beach lovers can rejoice knowing they're only 800 meters from Palombaggia Beach.

Nestled in the hills of Monte Altura lies this beautiful villa, perfect for those who want to just get away from everything. Enjoy the natural daylight permeating the indoor space and spend some time by the private pool in the morning, whether you're starting your day with some laps or a cup of coffee on the covered veranda. Whatever you do, don’t forget to host a hammam session before grabbing a bottle of the estate’s fine wine and watching the sunset behind the mountains.

This gorgeous apartment sits in a renovated 19th-century building in the heart of the Old Town and offers stunning views in every direction. Inside, cool off from the midday heat in the air-conditioned living space while enjoying the natural light and views across the town. Our favourite bit is the expansive roof terrace, the ideal place to gather for soaking up the Corsican sunshine. The well-shaded dining area has its own barbecue so you can sit down to eat alfresco at lunchtime. There’s also a relaxing chill-out area, with wicker furniture and beanbags overlooking the Mediterranean sea below. If you can tear yourself away from your home's many little luxuries, you're only a fifteen-minute walk from a sandy beach and the charming marina filled with bobbing yachts, while just outside your door, the Old Town offers up restaurants, bars and plenty of cultural attractions including the impressive Église St-Jean-Baptiste.

Sun Hits the Sky

This villa stands in the village of Budoni, within easy reach of the beautiful Cala Brandinchi beach and Lu Impostu. The decor is simple, and there isn’t much space for everyone inside – but with views like this, you won’t be spending much time indoors. The terrace is a great spot for alfresco meals, and kids will love the private swimming pool. We recommend hiring a car so you can get out and explore more of Sardinia.
