This is a cosy home with a sofa bed for two of the guests, but the location more than makes up for the size. It's right in the heart of Costa Rossa, a short walk from the beach, harbour and town centre. Northern Sardinia's hot spots are easily accessible by car, like Costa Paradiso and Castelsardo. But if you don't feel like venturing out, you'll find everything you need in this seaside town. Start your day with an espresso on the private terrace, spend the afternoon sunning on the sandy beach, and watch the sun go down from one of buzzing local restaurants. Sounds good, right? Just don't forget money to pay for towels and linens.

Now that's what we call a view. Whether you're relaxing on the balcony, swimming in the pool or whipping up a feast in the kitchen, you'll be able to watch the waves rolling in the sea. Although bed linen and towels are an additional cost, each bedroom is comfortable and cosy – but, as there's only space for eight around the table, we think ten guests will be a squeeze. Location-wise, Costa Paradiso is yours to discover. Li Cossi beach is less than a five-minute drive, with restaurants, bars and seasonal shops also within striking distance.

If you’re in search of a slow-paced Italian break, this home delivers a sweet solution. There’s a little garden and a terrace with a barbecue for alfresco dining. Created to make the most of indoor-outdoor living, it's also cleverly constructed to keep the south-facing areas cool and shaded, shielding your from the heat of the Sardinian sun. While the stark grey facade and sharply angled lines make a breathtaking first impression, we think the interiors speak for themselves too. We love how the architect decided to show off the incredible landscape of La Maddalena by creating a picture frame out of every window – each one set at the exact right height to maximise the impact. There’s even a telescope in the study so you can explore the area from the comfort of your own home, or go full Rear Window and see what your neighbours are up to down in the harbour. The muted grey tones of the exterior are mirrored in the contemporary kitchen, while the dining room is framed by floor-to-ceiling windows offering the best views in the house. Outside, you’ll find a wooden deck that’s perfect for morning coffees, evening cocktails, and everything in between.

This comfortable home is just a short walk from the beach in La Ciaccia, making it the perfect base for a coastal adventure. While the interiors are nothing special (it's function over style), the highlight of this home is the two terraces. Sun-seekers will love this Sardinian villa. It can be found in the village of Portobello di Gallura, just a short distance from the sandy shores of Cala Sassari. Inside the villa is crisp and modern, though you’ll have to pay for bed and bath linen (or bring your own). When you’re not at the beach, you can soak up the rays on the hiking and cycling trails of the Gallura area – it’s best to hire a car if you want to explore.

You’ll need to pay for your bed and bath linens – or bring your own – and we think hiring a car is a good idea if you want to get out to see more of north east Sardinia – and with these sea views, you'll be dying to hit the beach.

Whether you’re a family or a group of friends, this villa provides a comfortable base from which to explore Sardinia’s northwest coast. While Luculumbu Beach is within walking distance, there’s not much else to do in the surrounding area, so a car is a must here. The home itself is well-appointed and the views of the Mediterranean Sea from the swimming pool speak for themselves. Just a heads up, bed linens and towels are an additional extra and will need to be booked before your arrival.

If you're staying in a home situated on the Sardinian coastline, it would be a crying shame if the address didn't have an outdoor spot from which to admire the majesty of the local landscape. Thankfully, this apartment in the north of the island really delivers on the front.

Not only is there a large sun terrace with 180-degree views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and Tavolara island, but there are two further verandahs with alfresco tables and a well-kept garden. There are pleasant views out through the home's windows too, which, thanks to the elevated position, also bring in lots of natural light. This asset works particularly well with the bright and contemporary design throughout, from the white walls and glossy kitchen surfaces to the rather striking head sculpture in the living space.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, there's a rock beach only eighty metres from the home and the sandy Spiaggia Mare Rocce is two hundred metres' walk. There's a decent choice of restaurants in the surrounding town of Pittulongu, while you can find a wider choice, plus some archaeological ruins, in the city of Olbia, just over fifteen minutes' drive away.

This gorgeous apartment sits in a renovated 19th-century building in the heart of the Old Town and offers stunning views in every direction. Inside, cool off from the midday heat in the air-conditioned living space while enjoying the natural light and views across the town. Our favourite bit is the expansive roof terrace, the ideal place to gather for soaking up the Corsican sunshine. The well-shaded dining area has its own barbecue so you can sit down to eat alfresco at lunchtime. There’s also a relaxing chill-out area, with wicker furniture and beanbags overlooking the Mediterranean sea below. If you can tear yourself away from your home's many little luxuries, you're only a fifteen-minute walk from a sandy beach and the charming marina filled with bobbing yachts, while just outside your door, the Old Town offers up restaurants, bars and plenty of cultural attractions including the impressive Église St-Jean-Baptiste.

In the rugged south of Corsica, near Bonifacio, sits this chalet-like retreat in the hills. There’s something bohemian yet sleek about the decor, where a collection of books and records sit on shelves and touches like the tree-branch standing lamp and raw wood coffee table are a reflection of the ancient woodlands just beyond your front door.

Grab an authentic taste of Sardinia life with a stay at this contemporary home perched along the seafront of the bustling port town of Olbia. Its central location, set close to the town’s historic centre crammed with wine bars and a restaurant-lined plaza, will come in handy as there’s no kitchen at this home. It’s also worth noting there’s no living space to speak of. But with an impressive private balcony overlooking the island of Tavolara and the Gulf of Olbia for morning coffees and evening drinks, we don’t think you’ll mind.
