Fire up the audio system while you make drinks and snacks in the outdoor kitchen, or throw some meats on the barbecue for an alfresco lunch. 

The rooms inside are characterised by high ceilings and dark wooden beams that contrast with the whitewashed walls. Sleek, minimalist furniture is compounded by statement pieces: we love the sunken living area with the towering ultramarine ornamental fireplace. The villa is just 50 metres from the sea, and there are beautiful sandy beaches within easy reach. 

From the villa you are well placed to explore Sicily’s delights: the baroque town of Noto and Syracuse are both a twenty-five minute drive away, while the hamlet of Fontane Bianche is on your doorstep: home to beach bars, laidback restaurants and local shops.

Hidden among the olive trees of Syracuse, this home caught our eye with its seafront location and peaceful garden. It’s also a great base from which to explore the most stunning spots of the region – the Baroque cities of Syracuse and Noto are a short drive away, while the beaches of Avola and Fontane Bianche are also within easy reach. You will need a car here, but your host can help organise car rentals along with a range of excursions. And while the rooms are basic, we think most of your time will be spent outside, admiring the views from the jacuzzi.

It sits on Sicily's south coast and overlooks the endless, two-tone blue of the horizon gliding over the Mediterranean Sea. Back home, you'll be spoilt for choice in the amenities department. This beautiful verandah leads directly off the l. It offers a shaded dining area, plenty of seating around its perimeter, and easy access to the sun loungers dotted about the lawn. A short stretch of rocky shoreline is all that separates you from the sea, making the lack of a swimming pool a non-issue, as you can simply take a few steps straight into the inviting azure sea when you want to cool off.

If you prefer to feel the sand between your toes, Spiaggia Fontane Bianche is just over a kilometre away. This popular spot offers fine golden sand and dazzling blue waters backed by a small selection of bars and restaurants, where you can dine on fresh Sicilian seafood as you look out over the ocean.

When you've had enough of topping up your tan for the day, why not drive the 16km to the historic city of Syracuse, known for its ancient ruins and the lovely island of Ortigia. In addition to the history, you'll uncover a spectacular selection of lively bars, traditional restaurants and plenty of shops to pick up a holiday memento or two.

An hour or so south, the charming Baroque towns of Noto, Modica and Ragusa make for fascinating day trips. In addition, we'd recommend stepping back in time on a visit to the former fishing village of Marzamemi on Sicily's southern tip.

The rural location makes it an ideal spot for a relaxing retreat, whilst also providing easy access to the cultural centre of Noto and the sands of Lido di Noto.

Found in Fontane Bianche, this minimalist Sicilian villa is an ideal spot for mental decluttering. We were big fans of the pool, thanks to it being bordered by rows of gorgeous tropical plants – perfect for ensuring privacy. And with the home looking out to the east, you'll want to wake up early at least once during your stay to catch a sunrise over the sea. In the local area, you'll of course find the gorgeous beach and plenty of eateries, while you're also a short drive from nature reserves, historical sites, and quaint fishing villages.

Noto is just 1.5 kilometres away from this home, making it a perfect base to explore one of Sicily's most famous (and most beautiful) cities. If sandy beaches are more your thing, the Vendicari Nature Reserve is a ten-minute drive away. Breezy and modern, the fuss-free interiors lack some character. That said, the garden is the biggest draw here, surrounded by lemon and orange groves with lavender wafting in the air. Mealtimes are best enjoyed on the terrace, while afternoons can be spent in the pool when you're not up for an adventure. The sea views are limited, but on a clear day, you can glimpse the lighthouse in Porto Palo, Sicily's southernmost point. Larger groups can book the house next door, too.
