The villa boasts truly glorious views over the Ionian Sea and Taormina, which can be admired from inside as well as outside, thanks to floor-to-ceiling sliding French doors. Inside, the decor is crisp and clean, and you’ll find everything you need to enjoy a comfortable, relaxing stay. There’s even a gym and a sauna. Outside, the infinity pool is the main focus – aside from the views. The pool has a hydromassage area, and there’s a separate Jacuzzi. We love the alfresco dining area – there’s a barbecue to cook on too.

This historic home, which dates back to 1900, enjoys both the tranquillity of its residential setting and close proximity to Taormina's centre and its many sights. A short ride on the cable car will also take you to the beach. Spread across two floors, you’ll need to climb some stairs here, but once upstairs you’ll be rewarded with stunning views from the two private terraces. There’s enough space here for a large family or a group of friends, and the place is also well-equipped to accommodate children. Pop open a bottle of Marsala and relax on the terrace, taking in the views of the bay.

For a central Taormina apartment, look no further. This bright and cheerful home is right in the centre of Taormina, just a few steps from the main street. You can spend your days exploring medieval churches, shops, and restaurants, all right on your doorstep. Best of all, when you return to the apartment you’ll be able to drink in wonderful sea views from the terrace. Sip cocktails in the sunshine as you watch the world pass by, three floors below. Given its central location, you might want to pack earplugs – you’re in the thick of things here.

We're also in love with the tropical garden, where wild bougainvillaea scents the air and leafy lemon trees provide shade from the sun. Set over three lofty levels, the elegant, modern interiors are only made more tasteful by the generous welcome hamper from your host. Full of local goodies, you can take something out to nibble while you explore your new surroundings.

You can’t help but immediately be drawn to the panoramic balcony and roof terrace. Views out to Isola Bella are simply unmatched, especially when you’re perched on the tower’s ramparts with a glass of Sicilian wine, reclining on a sun lounger, or soaking in the outdoor hot tub under the stars.

Less than a half hour from Cefalù, this villa boasts sensational views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. There's no better spot to enjoy them than the panoramic infinity pool. Ready to explore? While the drive to Cefalù is worth it, Finale di Pollina's rocky beaches and coves are closer to home if you'd rather stay local.

With sweeping views across the sea and of Mount Etna, this apartment has two balconies – one for sunbathing and evening cocktails, the other for morning coffees. Here you'll be in the very heart of Taormina, just steps from the Greek theatre, Palazzo Corvaja, restaurants and boutiques, with cable car access to the beaches below. Inside, it's bright and homely, perfectly sized for a group of four. We particularly love the living space in a glass conservatory, accessed via an external spiral staircase. Whether you're here to explore or unwind, this spot puts you in prime position to do both.

 Taormina Heights

This apartment on the eastern edge of Sicily between Riposto and Acireale is a real feast for the eyes. Not only is the building in which it sits painted a vivid shade of pink that's instantly mood-lifting, but it also faces a gorgeous view of the Ionian Sea in one direction and Mount Etna the other way.

You can admire this panorama from the two terraces surrounded by verdant Mediterranean vegetation and palm trees, or out through the wooden windows. Although the interior can't hope to compete with these surroundings, the mix of rustic features and colourful flourishes are pleasing to be among. The patterned tiling in the kitchen and bathrooms is pretty, while the wooden furnishings and terracotta tilings add a real sense of homeliness.

As you can see from gazing out over the terrace, there's a pebbly beach that's easily reached from the home, but the nearest sandy spot is in Riposto six minutes' drive up the coastline. The port city of Catania is only thirty-five minutes away in the car too when you fancy a wander around the grand architecture and a meal in one of its seafood restaurants.

This villa on the south coastline of Sicily sits as close to the Ionian Sea as it's possible to get without the water lapping against your bed every morning. It's a wonderfully picturesque spot, but what's perhaps most impressive is the villa's long list of amenities that will prise your attention away from this peaceful vista.

Given the island's fruitful climate, it won't come as a surprise to learn that many of these can be found outside. There's something for every mood out here, whether you want to play in the swimming pool, relax in the Jacuzzi or feast yourselves silly on the pergola's alfresco dining table – all with the unmistakable sound and scent of the sea to keep you company.

When you finally have to head inside, we're sure that you'll like what you see. The interior design mixes rustic features, such as patches of exposed stonework and the villa's old wine press, with more contemporary flashes – the minimalist kitchen and whitewashed bedrooms are a case in point. We also like that the split between the main villa, guest house and suite offers a degree of welcome flexibility for larger groups.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the island, the first port of call has to be the stretch of beach that sits directly opposite the home. Beyond that, there are restaurants and bars a short walk away in the coastal town of Letojanni, plus the port city of Catania lies well within reach for a day trip.

Nestled rather picturesquely on the side of a hill which slopes right into the Ionian Sea, this cosy apartment is situated in the ancient town of Riposto. While compact in size, the place benefits from a large private garden where you’ll be able to enjoy alfresco meals and soak up the sun – you’ll also have direct access to the sea. Note that you’ll be sharing the building with the guests of the upstairs apartment – this being said, we think this pad makes for a great base for a couple or a small family on a Sicilian getaway.

With the ancient streets of Catania right on your doorstep, and a great view over the port to the sea, this two-bedroom apartment is a brilliant base for exploring the island’s second-biggest city. Start your day with breakfast on the balcony, before heading out to discover Baroque architecture, bustling pavement cafes, and volcano views (moody Mount Etna looms large over the city). If six of you are staying, two will be sleeping on the sofa bed, so it might be a little cosy. And the nearby train line might make things noisy from time to time. On the plus side, that puts you walking distance from the station, so you can easily see more of Sicily’s sights.

It takes nine minutes to walk to Spiaggia di Settefrati, where you can set up camp on the sand for a day of splashing in the shallows. Cefalù is a twelve-minute drive from the villa, and well worth the trip. Meander along the narrow streets eating gelato, and be sure to check out the Norman cathedral before popping into a trattoria for lunch.

Made up of two separate villas connected by a courtyard with a gorgeous private pool, this home offers large groups lots of room to enjoy both social celebrations and solitary bliss. Inside features simple Italian style, with touches of charming decor that make every space feel characterful and inviting. We love the large dining area, ideal for feasting on pizza and pasta with your loved ones.

Go on a wander around the grounds and you’ll come across the home’s private woods and lake – the perfect place to have a stroll in the shade of the lush treetops when the Italian heat turns up. Summer evenings can be spent sipping on Prosecco while you take the short 400m walk down to your own private pebble beach, where you’ll find your own beach chairs where you can relax and watch the sunset.

When you want to venture out, Nebrodi National Park offers wonderful walks and hikes, while nearby Caronia Marina boasts plenty of fantastic restaurants and bars.

Prosecco on the Pebbles

On the Mediterranean coastline, perched on a cliffside by the sea, these houses offer spectacular panoramic views of the stunning Sicilian scenery. The two wonderful yet contrasting villas are just a short stroll away from the beach and 5km from the charming seaside town of Cefalù. Climb on top of the La Rocca overlooking the town for amazing views or explore more of Sicily’s northern coastline by boat.

This former fisherman's cottage, situated right by the rocky shoreline and overlooking water in the picturesque village of Santa Tecla, has been lovingly renovated by your hosts to create an alluring home that caters to all your needs.

Unique, original features have been carefully preserved, maintaining the home's charm, while comfortable contemporary furnishings have been added alongside carefully chosen antique pieces to create a characterful space that's a real pleasure to spend time in.

An open-plan layout on the ground floor allows plenty of light in through double doors that lead out into a private garden at the rear. In addition to an outdoor dining space, there's an inviting Jacuzzi tub bubbling away, plus steps leading down to the rocky shoreline and direct access from the rocks for swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea.

This coastal cottage is well placed for access to a small selection of restaurants, pizzerias and a conveniently located mini market, while there's a weekly Saturday market a kilometre away in Acireale for stocking up on local produce. From here, you can head an hour or so further inland to explore Etna Park, home to the island's iconic volcano, or drive forty minutes north along the coast to the ever-popular and picturesque city of Taormina.

Bounty of the Sea

Located inside a villa that’s been split into four apartments, this home is the perfect base for a small family or a couple of friends looking to explore Stazzo. The apartment is surrounded by a lush green garden and offers access to a communal swimming pool. Mere steps from a small inlet with a rocky beach, you needn’t venture very far to enjoy the ocean, but if you prefer sandy shores then we’d recommend renting a car to see what else the area has to offer. 

Sunrise of the Sea

When we say this villa blends in with its leafy green surroundings, we mean it. A facade coated in ivy, it sits against a backdrop of towering ancient trees atop a hill on the Sicilian coast. The view from the infinity-edge swimming pool is simply stunning – looking out over the dramatic Sicilian coastline as the Mediterranean stretches before you. Wandering the terraced gardens is like the perambulations of yesteryear when glorious villas were flanked by cypress trees and the sea air was a cure-all. Wending your way beneath rose-covered archways, you’ll find the lounge terrace with plush furniture for tipples outdoors.

Inside, you can feel the fact that this place was built in the 19th century. The hand-painted tiled floor and twisting vines on the walls of the vast dining room are a testament to that. There are a number of grand reception rooms and lounges to choose from, giving the group plenty of space to spread out. Each piece of dark wood furniture, gilded book and upholstered armchair feels like an antique carefully selected. An upright piano in the main lounge really sets the scene. Bedrooms are odes to the old world, with vintage gramophones and lacquered dressers and wardrobes. Some come with Jacuzzi tubs in their ensuites. 

The best bit is, this villa is just a fifteen-minute stroll from the courtyard restaurants, hidden cocktails bars and buzzing nightlife of Taormina, yet you can retreat to the peace and quiet of the coast once you’re done exploring.
