With this apartment, you can live the Tuscan dream in this restored 14th-century farmhouse set amid olive groves in the hills above Lucca. Okay, the pool is communal, so you’ll be sharing this idyll with other guests. But the views looking up to the medieval village of San Gennaro are beautiful and more than make up for this. The apartment itself is on the upper floor, so benefits from views over the Tuscan countryside. The bathrooms are a little dated perhaps, but the rest of the home has a cosy, traditional feel. When you fancy exploring, nearby Lucca has a whole host of treasures to discover or take a twenty-minute hike up the hill to San Gennaro.

Bells of San Gennaro

Once part of a 14th century farmhouse, this apartment is a Tuscan gem. Less than ten miles from Lucca near the village of San Gennaro, this home is off the beaten track – so much so that cars with lower suspension may struggle to reach the front door. Upon arrival, you'll find a living and dining area with an unobtrusive kitchen, plus two double bedrooms, one with its own outdoor seating area. Speaking of outdoors, perhaps the home's star attraction is its dazzling pool area, which you'll share with guests in other apartments. Perfect for basing up in the heart of Tuscany, you can explore the region at leisure, or simply admire the vineyards and olive groves from your sun lounger.

Hillside Olive

With vistas over the surrounding vineyards, you couldn’t get a more Tuscan setting. The beautiful garden has a swimming pool and Jacuzzi, plenty of seating areas, a kids’ playground and there’s a barbeque for sociable meals with family and friends. Inside, rustic charm is blended perfectly with modern features and designer furnishings. The accommodation is split between the main house and an annexe with one bedroom and an en-suite. The location is fantastic too – this home is situated between Lucca and Florence, so there’s plenty to see and do. 

Vineyard Dream

Not only does this villa come with the most heavenly outdoor space, but it's rich with 16th-century character and country elegance. It's set at the top of a hill with awe-inspiring views, best appreciated from the heated indoor jetted pool or through the grand windows. Wake up in regal bedrooms that exude vintage, country-style luxury and throw open the lofty French windows and doors for views of the rolling hills all around you. After breakfast in one of the many glamorous dining areas, have a soak or a sweat in your private spa, sauna and gym before heading to the spectacular outdoor swimming pool. Sunny days will pass in a blur of lounging, chatting and snacking on produce from local stores, while evenings are destined for homemade pizza in the wood oven, drinking local wine and living la dolce vita in your paradisiacal surrounds. If you can tear yourself away from this dream home, we recommend taking a drive to the village of Collodi with its Pinocchio’s Park – Collodi is the hometown of the writer that created the character. The medieval city of Lucca is also a short drive away, offering incredible architecture, food and rich history.

A truly romantic getaway, you’ll fall in love with its blend of rustic charm and elegant decor that seamlessly flows through each room. Food enthusiasts will fall head over heels for the farm-style kitchen, which after a local cooking class, is sure to inspire plenty of feasts. The calming white conservatory is the perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee before heading out to the pool for a swim and some sunbathing. With plenty of outdoor seating and stunning views of the lush, green grounds, this secluded spot is an oasis. You may not want to leave this luxurious farmhouse, but if you do there are many charming towns nearby to explore – we’d recommend hiring a car to get the most out of your stay.

Tuscan Winery

Just a short drive from Lucca, this traditional farmhouse opens its doors to the simple pleasures of Italian living. Consisting of a main house and an adjoining hayloft (with its own kitchen) which also has A/C, this is a great option for groups in search of peace, privacy and a beautiful setting. The private pool is ideal for afternoon dips, and there's a large garden and plenty to explore in the surroundings. Outside you can follow hiking trails straight from the door, while cities like Pisa and Florence are also within driving distance.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and we can’t think of a better phrase to describe this home. Windows, doorways and shutters seize the views of Tuscany from every possible angle, providing snapshots of the world outside like moving pictures. There’s a level of luxury in this home which mirrors the stately historical architecture, making you feel as if you’ve stepped into the shoes of Italian society. Filled with antiques and dark wood furnishings giving a nod to old-world influence, there's something very wholesome about this home. We think you'll love immersing yourself in Italian culture here. Wake up to bedroom views of the golden skies dancing above the Italian landscape. Cook up a big meal and serve it at the outside table while the family scrambles to get theirs first. Stay out late relaxing on the terrace with a glass of Chianti and chat the night away while the vibrant colours of the garden fade into the darkness. The garden area will be the hub of your trip, that's for sure.

We recommend hiring a car here as there's plenty to do and see within a short drive. The historic town of Lucca with its colourful buildings and ancient monuments is only twenty-six-minutes away, and the lovable Pisa with its must-see leaning tower is a thirty-eight-minute drive. No matter where you choose to go, you'll find vibrant Italian culture to soak up (and so much good food). The home itself is located in the village of Sant’Andrea di Compito – a place known for its stunning Camellia trees dating back to the 1800s. We recommend wandering its streets and taking in the medieval charm.



Camellia Bloom

This sweet stone farmhouse just a 10-minute drive from Lucca is a glorious spot for two couples or a small family to live the Tuscan dream. Through the antique gate in a low stone wall, this hillside home has a private swimming pool surrounded by lovely mature gardens. Rich, green trees shield the expansive garden from view and there’s plenty of space for outdoor lounging. Cook alfresco at the brick summer kitchen and dine by lantern light as crickets sing in the greenery around you. Inside, sandwiched between ancient wooden beams and terracotta floors, are farmhouse-chic interiors in soothing pastel tones. But a quirky suspended staircase and macrame chandelier in the lounge add a little surprise. Bedrooms in pastel pink and dove grey feel fairytale fine beneath the old wooden ceiling of the home. Just a short walk away you’ll find a little market store and a local bar, and a bit further into the village is a pizzeria and bar to enjoy. 

Behind The Garden Gate

Surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, this villa offers rest and relaxation for a family or group of friends in the Tuscan countryside. You’ll spend most of your time outside here, thanks to the private swimming pool, dining terrace and four-poster sunbed. But when you do head inside, we recommend making a beeline for the Jacuzzi. Location-wise, restaurants are a short drive away if you don’t fancy cooking. The village of Montecarlo is around a five-minute drive away, and Lucca is reached in around fifteen minutes by car.

The Villa Torrigiani Estate is well worth a visit for its manicured gardens, grand interiors and fascinating history alone. With the nearest village and its shops and grocery stores just a five-minute drive away– convenience is key, and you'll be on your way to sampling some of the local delicacies in no time. Did we mention the wine? You'll be staying on a property with its own vineyard, after all. From here, you'll also be well-positioned for visiting the historic town of Lucca – just a twenty-minute drive away as well as the region's local beaches, which are reachable from the house in thirty-five minutes.
