Part of an estate that dates back to the seventeenth century, the interior is traditional in style, with chequered tiled floors, wooden ceiling beams and fresco-styled paintings hanging on the clay walls. The kitchen is a more modern affair and the chandeliers add a touch of razzle-dazzle.

However, the real standout feature has to be the swimming pool surrounded by loungers and umbrellas perfect for dozy afternoons. As the property sits 350 metres above sea level, there's a pretty dreamy view of grapevines and olive farms to be enjoyed from the outdoor space.

This charming apartment is located in perfect tranquillity inside a converted ancient palace, where the environment has been impeccably refurbished whilst respecting the original structure. We love how much greenery surrounds this home, and how it can make you appreciate the simple things in life as you take a long walk through the flora, breathing in the fresh air and listening to the bird's chirp. The wooden beams definitely give this home the character it deserves, as do the shutters that can be opened to let in light as you gaze out over the trees of an ancient noble villa.
 
When you want to be a part of the city's hustle and bustle, take the sixteen-minute drive to Lucca and bike along the city walls, losing yourself in the history of what would've been, before indulging in some retail therapy in the Old Town. Admire Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, a magnificent square constructed on the ruins of the ancient Roman amphitheatre that spreads a mix of historical beauty and true Italian flavour – stop for a bite to eat in the courtyard with innumerable cafes and restaurants.

We felt the style was a little old-fashioned here, but that seems appropriate – plus, the chandelier and wood beam ceilings are a nice touch. You'll find all of Lucca's charms just a few minutes' drive away, and if you love nature, you'll want to visit the scenic canyon of Orrido di Botri.

Located in the countryside just outside of Lucca, guests staying at this Tuscan villa are treated to views of the old town, rolling fields and the Mediterranean Sea in the distance. As you can imagine, it's a truly idyllic location and what's perhaps most impressive is that the home is just as easy on the eye, too.

The main portion of the home sits within a villa that dates back to the 15th century and you get a sense of this history with the high ceilings, large fireplaces and wooden beams. There's also a real sense of grandeur when it comes to the interior design — you only have to look at the chandeliers, artworks and lavish dining areas to see what we mean. This fabulous home is set in a tranquil rural position, in the hills outside the medieval city of Lucca. With incredible views, a private pool and bags of character, it's everything you could hope for in a Tuscan escape. 

A barn conversion that spans three floors, inside it's all about terracotta floors, historic beamed ceilings and classic Italian country furnishings. We particularly love the flow of the living space, with its cosy sitting area, well-stocked kitchen and formal dining room and we think the bedrooms here are just knock-out. From the master bedroom with its exposed stone wall and four-poster bed to the two versatile twin rooms, there isn't a single one we wouldn't happily retire to after a day in the sun. And each comes with its own ensuite so there won't be any need to queue for the shower.

Outside, the undulating landscape offers excellent viewpoints all over the grounds. Sit outside on the terrace with your drinks in the evening, wander down to the pool or serve your meal under the pretty pergola. And there's an extra surprise in store at this villa – a luxurious Turkish bath on the ground floor.

In the hills between Lucca and Florence, this homely apartment is the perfect spot for an Italian holiday. It’s light and airy with lots of character features, but we should probably mention that the bathroom is a bit dated. And although there’s a lift here there’s still a flight of stairs to climb. We’re sure you’ll love the location here. It’s situated between the vibrant Piazza San Michele and the Via Fillungo, so you’ll have plenty of boutiques and restaurants on your doorstep.
