Set in a peaceful suburb of Lucca (10km), there are restaurants and shops within walking distance, and Pisa, Florence, and the coastal resort of Viareggio are all within easy reach for day trips. Perfect for three couples wanting to holiday together without crowding each other, each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom. It's worth noting though only one of the bedrooms has air-conditioning, so you'll need to pull straws for that.

About a thirty-second stroll from the entrance of this 14th-century tower, the setting couldn't be more fairytale-like if it tried. We love its carefully curated mix of both new and antique pieces, along with a chandelier adding drama in the living room. We loved the elevated shower cubicle behind the bed, though we recognise it won't appeal to everyone.

Enjoy leisurely strolls along the top of the walls, which offer stunning views of the surrounding Tuscan countryside. The city's main square, Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, is a must-see and just a few hundred metres away. Additionally, the Basilica di San Frediano, the Cathedral of San Martino, and the Guinigi Tower are all shining examples of its awe-inspiring architecture.

Right next to the Santi Giovanni e Reparata Church, set on the Piazza San Giovanni itself, this home is completely immersed in local history and culture. And at less than a minute walk to the San Martino Cathedral, you’ll hear the chimes from the ancient bells of religious buildings all around. This farmhouse villa is an ideal base for exploring some gorgeous Tuscan cities and towns. Made up of a main house and a hayloft with its own living room and kitchen, there's plenty of space for a family or group of friends to stretch out. We think a couple of areas could do with a touch-up, especially in the hayloft, but the views over the Compitese hills from the private pool are lovely. You'll want a car for exploring, and there's no shortage of hot spots like Lucca, Pisa, and Florence nearby.

It’s just 3 kilometres from the old town of Lucca, so you can easily stroll to the Walls and explore the city. When you’re ready to venture out, you’ll find Piazza San Michele, less than a minute’s walk from home, and plenty more to see and do nearby, including Piazza Napoleone, the Guinigi Tower, Via Fillungo and the Antique Market. While you won’t need a car to explore the city’s sights, you may find having one beneficial for day trips to the Cinque Terre, Pisa and Florence and Forte dei Marmi. 


La Donna

This impressive period home within Lucca's ancient walls will have you feeling like the Duchess who once called it home. With three en-suite bedrooms, there's plenty of room for a family or a small group, and there's a well-appointed kitchen if you're going to be cooking at home. But here you'll be surrounded by all sorts of cafes and restaurants so eating out will be an easy option too.


The Principessa Rooms

Take in the views over the ancient trees and city promenade when you stay at this apartment. This place is ideal for friends or a family, not least because there’s a second kitchen with a bedroom area off it, where guests seven and eight will be sleeping on a sofa bed. If you need to catch up on work while away, you’ll be glad to know there’s a desk here, too. Location-wise, well, many of the city’s popular attractions are within walking distance. We’re talking about the cathedral, the Guinigi Tower and Piazza Anfiteatro, to mention a few.
