Located within the city walls, this fourth-floor home is perched above one of Lucca's main shopping streets. Promising pretty skyline views, this designer-furnished space offers a base for sightseers to plan out their itineraries. The lack of a handrail on the staircase calls for eagle-eyed parenting, as all guests will have to take care climbing up to the loft. With not much keeping you indoors, the famous Torre Guinigi is a stone's throw away, plus medieval churches and historic piazzas.

Bianco Scorcia

One glance at this 13th-century villa, and you'll feel like you've travelled back in time. Surrounded by acres of manicured gardens with fragrant flowers and fruit trees, this home effortlessly blends rustic charm with elegant decadence. Glimmering chandeliers hang from the wooden ceilings, art adorns the Tuscan stone walls and plush rugs line the traditional terracotta floor. You'll feel like royalty wandering the grounds and sleeping in the grand bedrooms, all with en-suites. Preparing an Italian feast is easy in the kitchen, which has been fully modernised while retaining its old-world charm. Better yet, hire a private chef to do all the cooking for you. Outside, take your pick from two lounge areas – one poolside, the other off the kitchen. Spend afternoons splashing in the pool and relaxing in the jacuzzi, before unwinding with an alfresco meal and glass of local wine under the stars. To add to the romance, there’s an indoor hot tub, complete with a candle chandelier. After a relaxing soak, head out to the garden for an aperitivo at sunset before strolling down to the plant-framed pergola where a dining table and barbecue invite intimate alfresco meals. When it’s time for bed, lay back and watch the stars twinkle above you through the skylight, or watch the moon above the stunning aqueduct from the large window. With Lucca within easy reach by car in under five minutes, or on foot in twenty, this is the perfect base to experience Tuscany in true, romantic fashion. 

The Courtier

The first thing you'll notice about this grand Tuscan villa is how it has been wonderfully restored with modern amenities, while still retaining its historic features. Inside, your host’s 20th-century family heirlooms give the home a personal touch, while original wooden beams adorn each ceiling and provide a rustic feel. Surrounding the villa, the grounds are the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee in the sun, and there's also a dining area outside under the pergola next to the original horse stable where you can tuck into breakfast. When you're not picnicking on the lawn, drive five minutes into nearby Lucca to explore the historic city. Take a walk on the Renaissance-era walls and try the city's traditional sweet bread, Buccellato. Stock up on local produce at one of the city's outdoor markets, and return to your villa to fire up the pizza oven. End your evening with a glass of local wine outside as dusk falls across the countryside.

Indoors, the rooms are just as inviting thanks to the welcoming decor and personal touches. There are two floors here, so you’ll have plenty of space to stretch out, relax or catch up on work. It’s within easy reach of the city’s main attractions as well as restaurants, shops and bakeries. You’ll also find the bus terminal and underground parking just two-minutes away. 

The Italian Sanctuary

Touched with a daub of pastels, this ground-floor apartment is a delightful haven to decompress in after busy days exploring historic Lucca and its surrounding towns. The beamed ceilings and arched doorways are typically Tuscan, and a commitment to muted tones – except in the second bathroom which offers a playful shock of cobalt mosaic tiles – invites you to take it easy and play strains of classical music, open up a bottle of robust red and perhaps put a Fellini film on the flat-screen television. You’re in the heart of the action of Lucca here, with less than a ten-minute walk to attractions like antique shops, markets, restaurants and the Lu.c.c.A Center of Contemporary Art. Vanilla-Bean Gelato

In the ancient heart of Lucca, this elegant apartment has a rather old and famous neighbour – the striking, Romanesque-Gothic Torre Guinigi. About a thirty-second stroll from the entrance of this 14th-century tower, the setting couldn't be more fairytale-like if it tried. At the top of a medieval building, set over two floors, this modern home retains many of its original features in a serene and stylish space. We love its carefully curated mix of both new and antique pieces, along with a chandelier adding drama in the living room. White is the colour of choice, creating a bright and clean look which contrasts beautifully against the rich wooden floors. Up in the eaves of the home, you’ll find attic bedrooms tucked under beams dating back hundreds of years. Gaze out to rooftop views from almost every window – it’s hard to believe how close you are to the city's iconic tower, as well as its charming bars and restaurants. After visiting nearby churches and museums, don't miss out on the top shopping spots either – it’s a ten-minute walk to Via San Paolino for fashion, and six to Piazza San Giusto for antiques.

La Fantasia

Take in the views over the ancient trees and city promenade when you stay at this apartment. This place is ideal for friends or a family, not least because there’s a second kitchen with a bedroom area off it, where guests seven and eight will be sleeping on a sofa bed. The painted walls and ceilings date back to the 1700s – you can look forward to the grandeur of the 18th century blended with modern sophistication. There’s a wealth of eateries nearby, and the main shopping street of Lucca is just a short walk away. This charming home has everything you need for a memorable stay in Lucca. 

Italian Light

Just north of the walled perimeter of the medieval city, this home offers a spacious and elegant abode where you can walk to the River Serchio in seven minutes, or to the Porta Santa Maria in eight. Original beamed ceilings, charming wooden shutters, and traditional Italian furnishings await you in this Tuscan treat. The enchanting interiors echo classical aspects of the city, with antique wooden furniture, luxe textiles, and a marble fireplace at its heart. But modern pieces like the glass coffee table create a subtle contrast, reminding you of Lucca’s presence over so many centuries.
