While a rich tapestry of pattern and colour adds flourishes of modernity and echo the pastel facades of the walled city outside.

Once you’ve done gawping over the grand living and dining space, head into the boutique-feel bedrooms, where it’s out with the drab and in with vibrant textiles. Friends sharing will love the two seperate bathrooms, so there’s no hanging around when it’s time to get up and at ’em. And indeed, you should.

Right outside your doorstep, you’ll find the leafy garden of Palazzo Pfanner for some fresh air. Or simply lose yourself to Lucca’s cobbled streets, discovering handsome piazzas and renaissance palaces at every turn. While there’s no parking, we suggest ditching the car to explore the city on foot – that way you can admire the Renaissance architecture the city is famed for. Situated a stone’s throw from Piazza San Michele, you’ll find the Church of Santa Maria Corteorlandini and a whole host of restaurants within walking distance.
