Set in a secluded spot on the edge of a large village, you’ll have peace and quiet here, with the convenience of shops, restaurants, and bars within walking distance, as well as a trio of historic towns – Barga, Borgo a Mozzano, and Bagni di Lucca – within a thirty-minute drive. The private pool may be small, but the panoramic countryside views from the water more than make up for that. Inside, the two bedrooms are separated by a bamboo wall so they aren’t the most private – we think this home is best suited to a couple or family.

You'll love the views from this traditional villa in Garfagnana. Sweeping across the mountains in Castelnuovo Garfagnana towards Lucca in the south, it'll be hard to take your eyes off the rolling scenery. The best spot for gazing? We reckon it's the private pool, though the outlook from the loggia and terrace is just as lovely. It's not the most modern home, but it has a lot of heart – the rooms are cosy, comfortable, and packed with character. The location is convenient for exploring the area, too. Lucca, Barga, Castelnuovo Garfagnana, and many more hidden gems are easily discoverable by car.

This charming apartment is located in perfect tranquillity inside a converted ancient palace, where the environment has been impeccably refurbished whilst respecting the original structure. We love how much greenery surrounds this home, and how it can make you appreciate the simple things in life as you take a long walk through the flora, breathing in the fresh air and listening to the bird's chirp. The wooden beams definitely give this home the character it deserves, as do the shutters that can be opened to let in light as you gaze out over the trees of an ancient noble villa.
 
When you want to be a part of the city's hustle and bustle, take the sixteen-minute drive to Lucca and bike along the city walls, losing yourself in the history of what would've been, before indulging in some retail therapy in the Old Town. The traditional feel of some of the furnishings and bathrooms won’t be for everyone, but the vast, manicured space outside makes up for it.

Whereas most homes give you a single terrace if you're lucky, this Tuscan property spoils you with outdoor spaces. Although we're betting you'll be spending most of your time in the open air, the interior is also pleasing to the eye as well. Through the arched doorways, guests will be greeted by a rustic interior, complete with cooling tiles on the floor, patterned walls in the kitchen and lots of botanical-themed artwork dotted about the place.

The local village of Vellano can be reached in around ten minutes' stroll and has a couple of restaurants for when you get peckish. Further afield, there are Tuscan towns that can be reached in under an hour's drive, such as Montecatini Terme, Lucca and Pistoia. If you're up for a slightly longer journey, Florence is only an hour and twenty minutes' drive from the home.

It may be less than a thirty-minute drive from the spectacular Renaissance city of Florence, but this home feels like another world. Located up in the hills, you'll discover a spectacular villa – complete with a clock tower – just outside the small village of Cellai, where time seems to stand still. 

Pad across terracotta-tiled floors, with wood beam ceilings above, and discover rooms filled with character and charm, where period features and modern touches sit effortlessly alongside one another. Nowhere is this better displayed than in the contemporary kitchen and adjoining dining room with its antique stove. Each of the four bedrooms blends rustic charm with supreme comfort, while the bathrooms are fitted out with beautiful tiles and gleaming marble for a touch of luxury.

Step outside and you'll discover a lush landscape of terraced gardens, an inviting pool and breathtaking views over the Tuscan terrain. Your hosts recommend making the trip to Forno La Chiocciola, where you can stock up on Florentine speciality flatbread, schiaccata, each morning. Afterwards, place yourself poolside and settle in for a day of sunbathing, interrupted only by refreshing dips in the water and trips to the kitchen to get some more of that delicious bread.

The renaissance-era buildings and artistic spirit of Lucca are just under 13 kilometres away from the home, while the sandy beach at Viareggio is only a 28km drive, too.

This elegant home in Tuscany is in a dreamy spot in a valley, in a countryside setting that leads to absolute relaxation. The villa is full of character, with antique furniture and wooden beams, in addition to mesmerising views. 

The outside space is lush and pretty. Roses and lavender have been planted alongside a wealth of trees, making the garden feel like an oasis. In the morning, sip coffee at the table under the gazebo, admiring the views and planning your day. If you’re anything like us, you won’t be able to resist a dip in the hedge-lined swimming pool for long. Dry off on a sun lounger with a good book, or start a table tennis tournament with your friends. 

In the evening, set up outside at the long dining table. You might like to arrange for a local chef to come and cook for you – that way you can enjoy a cocktail hour on the terrace before dining as the sun sets beyond the valley. 

The villa is only a short walk along the river to the centre of peaceful Poggibonsi, so you can easily dine out in the local restaurants or grab a gelato. Montemorli vineyard is just a twenty-minute walk up the hill, while the medieval beauty of San Gimignano is a mere twenty-one-minute drive away. Slightly further afield, you can be in Siena in thirty minutes, and Florence in an hour.

In the beautiful Tuscan countryside outside Lucca (a twenty-minute drive away), this villa epitomises la dolce vita. From your vantage point atop a verdant hill, you can gaze out over vineyards and olive groves – explore the local area by car for tastings at local wineries and olive farms. Perhaps bring back some spoils for a spot of aperitivo on the terrace. There are plenty of patios, balconies and shaded leafy nooks to choose from in the garden. Day beds and loungers line the poolside and the view from here, over the misty Tuscan hills all the way to Lucca, is particularly magnificent at sunset. 

The villa itself is a traditional medley of thick stone walls and a terracotta roof; just like the Tuscan farmhouses of old. The decor leans into the rustic vibe with wooden ceilings and stone walls on display, alongside ancient stone hearths in the living room and dining room. A mish-mash of dark wood antique furniture and floral sofas feel straight from the 19th century and a brickwork floor keeps things cool underfoot. Bedrooms are a delight to wake up to, with panoramic countryside views from the wood-shuttered windows.

It’s light and airy with lots of character features, but we should probably mention that the bathroom is a bit dated. And although there’s a lift here there’s still a flight of stairs to climb. We’re sure you’ll love the location here. It’s situated between the vibrant Piazza San Michele and the Via Fillungo, so you’ll have plenty of boutiques and restaurants on your doorstep.

We love how bright and welcoming this contemporary home is, despite the elegance. Outside, the garden is framed by hedges and palm trees, making it a pretty oasis. Best of all, there’s a Jacuzzi to relax in. There’s also an alfresco dining space – what could be better than dining under the stars before a dip in the Jacuzzi?
