The history of the province runs deep and leads straight through the centre of this grand villa. Each of the rooms has its own thrilling touch of a bygone age, with guests getting to live a piece of it. Take a quiet moment with a good book in one of the parlours, or head out onto the lawn and sip your morning espresso with nothing but the birds and the stunning views.

We love the master suite with its fireplace – a welcome feature during the cooler months. We suggest a car for ease –  there are restaurants less than 2km away and the pretty town of Montecatini is 15km from the home.

Special events aside, this is a wonderful holiday home whether you’re travelling with friends or family. There’s plenty of room, including a spacious traditional kitchen – why not hire a private chef and enjoy an alfresco feast on the terrace? The outdoor space is marvellous, set over several terraced levels. The result is incredible views of the Tuscan countryside from every angle. The swimming pool is sheltered from view by a row of trees on one side, and open to sweeping views on the other – it’s glorious at any time of day, but we’re particularly fond of a sunset swim. 

The villa is only a thirty-minute drive from Lucca, and within easy reach of Florence too – the train to Florence takes an hour and eleven minutes. Spend a morning in Lucca admiring the architecture from a picturesque square, then stroll around the medieval centre with a gelato. For some top-notch relaxation, we recommend driving fourteen minutes to Montecatini Terme. This gem of a town boasts nine thermal spas housed in historic buildings – it feels like stepping back in time in the best way. 

There’s so much to see and do in this beautiful part of Italy, and this spectacular home is the ideal base from which to explore. When you’ve taken in all the sights you can manage, recline on the terrace with a glass of Chianti. Bliss.

When staying in the spa town of Montecatini Terme, it’s only right to have a spa of your own. This gorgeous villa, nestled between Florence and Lucca, has relaxation down to a tee. Want for nothing with expansive gardens, a private gym, a huge glistening pool, and a spa complete with a huge jacuzzi, sauna, and Turkish bath. 

It might have every luxury you could ask for, with a modern interior that practically sparkles, but the home is traditional and charming. Creamy walls, white shuttered windows, and a terracotta tiled roof, characteristic of a Tuscan abode, set the scene for a blissful stay. 

While the home itself is lovely, we can’t get over the panoramic views of the Tuscan countryside. Atmospheric rolling hills and sprawling fields are everywhere you turn. Greeting you with wrought-iron gates, this eighteenth-century Tuscan villa immerses you in the past while maintaining one foot firmly in the present. Set in rolling countryside, just a short drive from the city of Pistoia, it's about as charming as it gets. Think staggering scenery, beautiful terraces, stone courtyards and terracotta tiles. The estate is private and pristine, with immaculate lawns, fragrant flowers and a backdrop of gently swaying pine trees. It's out here that we think you'll spend most of your time, by the glorious infinity pool with far-reaching views. Up at the house, you'll step into history, with so many character features it could be used as a setting for a film. There's a grand living space, with a magnificent fireplace and huge dining table, along with a rustic kitchen and a second lounge. But it's the bedrooms that we fell head over heels with – furnished with antiques and with beamed ceilings and shuttered windows, they're simply beautiful. The ground floor bedroom even opens to a covered veranda with a table and chairs, and the master bedroom's ensuite has a Turkish bath where you can enjoy some aromatherapy. Dining outside on the terrace is an all-day affair, with a barbecue for some of the fresh produce you can pick up locally. And in the evening, why not slip into the hot tub as the sun sets. And although it feels secluded, this place is just a forty-minute drive from Lucca and an hour from Florence.

The garden is dotted with olive trees and fun-filled activities for little ones, while the swimming pool calls for an afternoon dip. We love the juxtaposition of homely vibes with ornate flourishes. Who knew chandeliers could look so good in a barn? Set on a private estate, with lush gardens all around, the owners are your only neighbours. Signora Rosa will welcome you with open arms (and maybe even a slice of homemade torta), and the whole family is on hand to help, while also respecting your privacy. There are two complimentary bicycles available for guests, making the five-minute walk to the local town even quicker. Here you can pick up groceries to cook up an alfresco feast; you’ll want to make use of the pretty, shaded outdoor dining area with views over the immaculate grounds. There’s even a wood-fired pizza oven, so you’d better start practising your dough spinning. We’d happily hole up in this place for a week or two, but with a car, it’s the perfect base for exploring Tuscany.

But while we love the position of this home, we think some guests might end up finding it difficult to leave the premises – with a beautiful mature garden and large swimming pool, this home’s many charms are capped off by a floodlit private tennis court, ping pong table, foosball, and a children’s play area. And that’s before we get to the horses. Keen equestrians – or just the horse curious – will love the fact that this home is neighboured by horse paddocks, with riding lessons and excursions available on request. Inside, the home is decorated in the traditional Tuscan manner, with classic tiling, exposed ceiling beams, and classic furnishings all in evidence. There’s a separate apartment available too, which we think would work wonders for families or friends travelling together. Not that you’ll be spending much time indoors though – with covered terraces, plenty of sun loungers round the pool, and shady spots set up under the trees, this is a home that revels in indoor-outdoor living.

Boasting noble origins and surrounded by 10 hectares of land, this villa guarantees a stay to remember. Inside, you'll find 19th-century antiques and ceiling frescoes – and while this may not appeal to the modernists among you, the place has that quintessential Tuscan charm that we can’t get enough of. Taking advantage of the glorious weather couldn’t be easier thanks to the alfresco dining terrace and seating area, and when you need to cool off, there’s a private pool. Location-wise, Montecatini Terme is within easy driving distance, but if you fancy exploring further afield, Pisa is our day-trip destination of choice.

This home is packed with Tuscan charm – no surprise, considering it was built in the 18th century. Originally two houses (now combined into one), this place has a lot of room to spare. It's filled with antiques, old-school artwork, and buckets of character. The layout is a little quirky, given its past, so expect several stairs, a sofa bed for two, and some beds on the mezzanines – you'll also need to provide your own towels. And we can't forget the garden. Set on 7 hectares, you'll have fantastic views across the western slopes of Monte Albano – best enjoyed from the pool, Jacuzzi, or alfresco dining terrace. Factor in the proximity to Florence, and we think it's a no-brainer.

Opulence is the name of the game here, and we were immediately seduced by this home’s charm. Firstly, its setting is truly idyllic, with stunning vistas of rolling green hills, punctuated by dark and majestic cypress trees. Evenings are particularly enchanting, and you’ll no doubt find yourself organising elegant suppers and aperitivos, with the glow of the setting sun as your backdrop. The covered, outdoor dining area invites those communal feasts, with the laid-back, dolce-far-niente vibe. In the heat of the afternoon sun, you can cool yourself in the lovely swimming pool, and work on your tan on one of the sun loungers dotted around. 

The inside of the villa is a stunning mélange of classic Italian style with modern comfort. We love the incredible attention to detail with which the interior has been decorated, and you’ll find yourself wandering around these rooms, admiring the art and the unique pieces scattered about. There is more than enough space to lounge about, with comfy sofas and chairs, and you can also enjoy sumptuous indoor feasts in the large dining room. 

The luxurious feeling continues into the bedrooms, which are plush, spacious, and stylishly decorated, with comfy beds carrying the promise of restful sleep.

This rustic farmhouse surrounded by picturesque hills makes for a restful Tuscan retreat. The interiors are a little dated in parts, but perfectly comfortable for a rural stay – the dining room with panoramic windows is a highlight. Outside, the terrace offers swing seats, loungers and a dining area, so you can maximise every moment with those country views. The unpaved track to this house is a little tricky to navigate, so it’s not the best for low-suspension cars. Nearby you’ll find Pescia’s authentic restaurants and shops, while Lucca lies less than 25km away should you feel like a day in the city.

Blessed with an isolated spot in the Tuscan hills, there's something rather tranquil about this home and you're sure to find it easy to relax, whether you're splashing about in the swimming pool, cooking up dinner in the summer kitchen or simply admiring the beautiful views.

There's a lot to like about the home itself, too. Dating back to the 17th century and spending much of its life as a farmhouse, the living quarters are understandably a little traditional – note the stone archways, wooden ceiling beams and terracotta tiling underfoot. There are some more contemporary aspects though, including the recently renovated kitchen and Jacuzzi bathtub.

When it comes to getting to know Tuscany a little better, the town of Montecatini Terme is only 10km and has nine thermal spas to visit. A little further afield, the Renaissance-era architecture of Lucca is 30km away, while Viareggio's beach is 55km from the home – close enough for a day trip or two, we'd say.

Whether you’re in search of a romantic wedding destination or an immersive Tuscan retreat, this home delivers a dream-worthy solution. From the sweeping countryside views to the private pool (heated upon request), outdoor bar and elegant rooms, every detail has been considered to inspire total relaxation. It’s also extremely well located with the medieval village of Montecatini Alto just a five-minute drive away, and the historic city of Pistoia also within easy driving distance. 


Love From Tuscany

Whereas most homes give you a single terrace if you're lucky, this Tuscan property spoils you with outdoor spaces. As well as a lounge given some shade by a large parasol, there's also a separate deck with an alfresco dining table and a stone barbecue, plus another area that holds a swimming pool.

Although we're betting you'll be spending most of your time in the open air, the interior is also pleasing to the eye as well. Through the arched doorways, guests will be greeted by a rustic interior, complete with cooling tiles on the floor, patterned walls in the kitchen and lots of botanical-themed artwork dotted about the place.

The local village of Vellano can be reached in around ten minutes' stroll and has a couple of restaurants for when you get peckish. Further afield, there are Tuscan towns that can be reached in under an hour's drive, such as Montecatini Terme, Lucca and Pistoia. If you're up for a slightly longer journey, Florence is only an hour and twenty minutes' drive from the home.

Set on an estate dotted with trees, shrubs, and other native foliage, this home ecompasses the entire first floor of an ancient villa in Orentano. Despite sharing things like the pool, tennis court, and soccer field with another home, there is enough room on the property for it to still feel private. That’s probably helped along by the fact that you have your own private garden and barbecue – not to mention the sheer size of the home itself. Move easily between rooms and use the easy go-between as an excuse to nip into the kitchen for another cup of coffee and a dozen more biscotti to take back to where you’re reading on the plush sofa. Take the spiral staircase up to the loft where you’ll find the rustic bedrooms and bathrooms for when you’re ready to turn in at night. When you think loft, you might conjure up images of a tight squeeze, but the addition of the skylights in almost every room here allows the light to make the space feel more open. 

With the host and his family living on the estate, you’ll sometimes find yourself around the table enjoying their homemade pasta alfresco with soft music playing in the background. There’s also a brick pizza oven here, so don’t be surprised if you eat more margarita than you’d care to – we know, that is not even remotely possible. 

When you’re not enjoying the home, you can make a trip to Pisa, Voltera, or Florence – each with their unique charm – or borrow the bicycles and simply explore the surroundings on two wheels instead of four. After a day of activity under the Tuscan sun, take a late-night swim in the heated pool, and when you’re ready to return inside, why not linger a little while longer to gaze up at the stars.

Inside, there are character features aplenty, thanks to its farmhouse heritage. Think wooden beams, terracotta floor tiles and a large elegant fireplace. Another highlight is the bedroom, with its large painting and views over the Tuscan countryside.

Lucca and its many attractions, such as the Guinigi Tower and the Puccini Museum, are a few miles away. Or the village of Tofori is nearby, while if you like gardens, the Giardino di Villa Garzoni is a must-see.

Decadent in every sense of the word, this villa in the Tuscan countryside is a dream come true, as far as we're concerned. Owned by a bespoke interior designer, it should come as no surprise that every room is a treasure trove, filled with plush furniture, eclectic knick-knacks, antique furniture and that unique designer touch that makes it sing. Historic character is around every corner – we're particularly fond of the wooden beams and brick ceilings – but all the mod-cons are accounted for, including a stunning chef's kitchen perfect for meal prepping and small, luxurious bathrooms complete with rainfall showers.

But there's no denying that the garden is the best part of all. Romantic and magical, we'd happily spend all our time out here, admiring the medieval architecture of the 10th-century church next door. While away lazy afternoons swimming in the private pool, sunbathing on the lounge chairs and reading in the gazebo. Come dinnertime, share an Italian feast and a bottle of Tuscan wine under the leafy pergola as the night falls, surrounded by twinkling fairy lights. When you're ready to venture out, Tuscany's main sights are all reachable by car – including Florence, Lucca and Pistoia – but we're just as happy to stay local and discover Montecarlo's traditional eateries, wineries and medieval fortress.

If you’re looking for a relaxing escape in Tuscany, then this renovated stone house is sure to fit the bill. Not only does this home have amazing valley views, but there’s an outdoor pool and terrace as well as an indoor swimming pool and sauna. The living space and kitchen are packed with character features such as beams. And the bedrooms have more wonderful vistas of the Tuscan countryside and the towns of the Svizzera Pesciatina, such as Sorana which can easily be explored. Other places worth visiting within driving distance include Montecarlo, Montecatini Alto and Lucca. 

Pool Time

Sitting among the green hills of the Valdinievole, this quintessentially Tuscan villa puts guests in the middle of some truly gorgeous scenery, while offering plenty to do should they ever tire of the views – although we think that's unlikely to happen.

During the warmer months, it's not difficult to imagine countless hours spent in the home's outdoor space. The swimming pool is sure to be popular on summer afternoons, but you can just as easily enjoy the sunshine while playing table tennis on the terrace or enjoying hearty alfresco feasts on the pergola.

The home itself is fairly traditional in character, with wooden beams and exposed stonework lending a certain rustic charm. That being said, you can tell from the wealth of contemporary features that the host has put a lot of effort into the interior in recent years – the sleek kitchen and upper-floor Turkish bath are a bit of a giveaway, as are the bar games and decorative motorcycle that all add a bit of Americana to proceedings.

You can see a whole lot of Tuscany from the home's balconies and terrace, but if you ever want a bit more of a close-up, the thermal baths and opulent villas in the spa town of Montecatini Terme are 4km away, while the medieval city of Pistoia is around 15km away.

Tuscan American

Nestled at the foot of the Apennine Mountains in the hamlet of Montaccolle, this gold-toned haven is the ideal getaway spot. Listen to leaves dance in the gentle Tuscan breeze as you lay on your lounger, cocktail in hand. The private swimming pool boasts views over rolling hills, peppered with rural villages and country estates.

If you're travelling in a group, you won't have any trouble finding your own space to enjoy the peace and quiet. The villa has multiple outdoor areas equipped with comfy seating – whether it's the wicker set on the top-floor terrace or the inviting garden sofa tucked down the side of the house. Inside, get settled in the homely living area, where wooden accents and traditional furniture create a decidedly rustic feel.

Just fifteen minutes down the road, you'll find Montecatini Terme, a hilltop town rich in characterful cafés and pretty tree-lined streets. From here, you can enjoy far-reaching views over the countryside. Pistoia is also close by – a warren of wide piazzas and grand architecture, this classic Italian city is well worth a visit while you're in the area.

This contemporary villa in Monsummano Terme is perfect for a large group of family or friends seeking a little serenity during an Italian break.
