Inside, you'll find a huge kitchen (perfect for practising gnocchi-making skills with your loved ones), billiard table and vast entertaining space, with an array of charming en-suite bedrooms at the top of the terracotta staircase. Outside, there's a beautiful portico for alfresco lunches and dinners, and a stunning swimming pool lined in sky-blue tiles – it even has its own hydromassage area. Kids will spend endless hours entertaining themselves with the slide and swing set, while adults can climb the external stone staircase to sip sundowners on the small terrace where the old watchtower once was. 

The Old Watchtower

Pack your bags and make your way to this beautiful hideaway in the San Miniato region in Italy. Enter through the gates and up the grand, stone-paved driveway to a peach-orange typically Tuscan villa with wooden shutters. You’ll immediately want to drop everything to explore the green expanse, jump straight into the infinity pool and stretch out to catch some rays on the plush outdoor armchairs. High-beamed ceilings, arched entryways, terracotta floors and tiled bathrooms give the sense of traditional Italy. This is the kind of home where chandeliers light the formal dining room, baths come with claw feet, and fireplaces are crowned with antique trinkets. This is the perfect opportunity to try your hand at pizza making with the kitchen’s wood-burning oven, and there’s an old-fashioned pasta maker in the alcove for an Italian feast like nonna used to make. Show off your culinary skills as you gather around for a meal at the long, wooden table under the shaded terrace, where views over the rolling Tuscan countryside pair perfectly with a bottle of local red.

Tales of Tuscany

There are few places on earth as peaceful as Tuscany – see for yourself when you stay at this rural retreat on the outskirts of Montelopio. While the villa benefits from being close to this medieval village's amenities, it's far enough away that you can enjoy the enchanting countryside without interruption.

The highlight for us has to be the vast garden, where you can lounge by the pool (or in it) and listen to birds chirp as a gentle breeze dances through the trees. In the evenings, kick back in the shaded lounge area after grilling locally-grown veg on the outdoor stove. While somewhat traditionally decorated, this home has a modern heart. You can feel at ease knowing your needs have been taken care of, from the well-outfitted kitchen to the bright bedrooms equipped with that all-important air conditioning. 

If you can bear to leave this secluded spot, venture to nearby Volterra. This walled mountaintop town is a honeypot for history buffs, exhibiting architectural relics from Etruscan, Roman and Medieval periods. Even if this doesn't interest you, the site is well worth a visit for its expansive views across the surrounding hills. 

Rural Reverie

This beautifully renovated farmhouse sits amid the rolling hills of Tuscany, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. It’s a peaceful home, where you’ll start to relax within moments of arriving. The private pool boasts wonderful green views, as does the well-kept garden. A barbecue makes dining alfresco a delight, and the old barn has been converted into an enclosed veranda. Inside the villa, you’ll find an inviting blend of the contemporary and the rustic. Perfect for large groups, this villa has plenty of space. 

Olive Grove Hills

Nestled in the picturesque Tuscan countryside, this converted farmhouse boasts a private pool overlooking the hills and a sunny terrace, perfect for alfresco meals or relaxing on the comfortable daybed. The home comprises a villa sleeping eight and a self-contained annex for four, so it’s a great choice for groups wanting to share outdoor spaces while having a bit of extra privacy inside. When it comes to location, you’re in a great spot for exploring, with the traditional village of Palaia nearby and the city of Pisa, with its famous leaning tower, just 15 kilometres away.

The charming, refined space is framed by cypress trees, the symbol of all that's sacred in Tuscany, and with lush fields and olive groves offering expansive views of distant mountains, you’ll instantly feel connected to your landscape. Your home’s private patio, complete with sun loungers and a huge pristine pool, overlooks the vineyards - so you’ll feel part of your environment with a glass of cold Vermentino in hand. 

The elegant yet rural interior design features original beamed ceilings, traditional arches and stunning Cotto tiles which are blended with modern furnishings and crisp white walls for a truly clean aesthetic. Cooking a Tuscan feast will be a delight in your modern country kitchen, as will sinking into your jacuzzi as the sun dips over its afternoon peak. 

The possibilities for cultural excursions are not lacking in this area either - the towers of San Gimignano and cathedrals and Etruscan remains of Volterra lie only a thirty-minute car ride away along charming country roads - absent from traffic, making them ideal destinations if you’re seeking peaceful travel.

A Portrait of Life

Located on a hilltop in Tuscany, this former farm shed is surrounded by olive groves and rows of vines. While it may not be the most luxurious home in our collection – some areas feel a little dated – with a sunny pool area, a patio for alfresco dining and good road links to tourist hotspots like Pisa and Florence, we still think it has plenty to offer. There are a lot of steps here, as well as a partially open staircase, so it may not be the best option for those with young children or reduced mobility.

Tuscan Hill Hideaway

This villa in the Tuscan hills would suit a big group who like to gather together outside for long, lazy lunches and sessions by the private pool, but appreciate a little extra privacy when it comes to sleeping arrangements. Bedrooms are spread across four separate spaces, each with its own full kitchen, living and dining room. Built on the foundations of an 18th-century farmhouse, the interior radiates rustic Tuscan charm and country-style kitchens are ideal for knocking up an Italian feast (there’s also a professional kitchen available for an additional fee). But it’s the outside space that steals the show with playparks for the kids, vegetable gardens, a private pool and plenty of space to dine alfresco.

Gemini's Dream

Sitting proudly amongst the Tuscan hills, this fine villa looks out across olive groves and vineyards, as well as an ancient hilltop fort. Equidistant between the provinces of Florence and Pisa, there is a wealth of cultural gems to explore, including the nearby town Vinci (of Leonardo fame). The grounds and gardens are extensive and beautiful, interspersed with olive trees and sweet-scented Mediterranean herbs. The immaculate swimming pool is set over three levels, with the Jacuzzi cascading down into the infinity pool and then on into a shallower children’s pool. Inside the handsome villa, with its classic shuttered windows and scalloped terracotta roof tiles, you’ll find a cool and calm retreat from the Tuscan sun. Exposed brickwork and natural tones of sand and honeyed stone create a calming atmosphere, and there is lovely antique furniture throughout. 

Da Vinci in Love

Tucked in the verdant heart of Tuscany, this home offers peace, tranquility and wonderful views. There’s also a large garden with a pool, a Jacuzzi, a terrace with a barbecue and an outdoor children’s play area – making this a great option for families. The rooms are set across the main house and three independent apartments (each with a living room and kitchen). Events and parties are allowed with prior approval from the host. Plus, it’s a fantastic base for exploring the region. From here, it’s possible to drive to Volterra, San Gimignano and Pisa. There’s also a great pizza restaurant just a short walk away. 


The Tuscan Love

Set in the hills of Pisa, this villa offers a relaxing retreat from the fast pace of modern life. With a main villa and multiple apartments with separate kitchens and living areas, there are plenty of private spaces if you’re visiting as a large group. For socialising altogether, you’ll find multiple spots around the gardens, with shaded terraces, alfresco dining spaces, a children’s playground, an outdoor exercise area and a private pool. This 18th-century farmhouse is on the traditional side, so expect some older features, though we think that’s part of the charm of this home. Conveniently located between Valdera, Volterra, San Gimignano, and Pisa, you’ll be able to make the most of the Tuscan countryside and vineyards here.
