The villa is a real beauty. It dates back to the 10th century, with the turret being added in the 16th century. From the main bedroom within the turret, you can enjoy magnificent views of the rolling hills of the Tuscan countryside. Hectares of olive groves surround the home, giving it a tranquil and secluded feel. You’ll find yourself relaxing as soon as you arrive, whether you plan on spending your time swimming in the private pool, sunbathing on the terrace, or dining beneath the pergola. The barbecue and wood-burning oven make alfresco dining a breeze, but you could always book a private chef or a local cooking class if you really want to wow your guests.

This 18th-century farmhouse is on the traditional side, so expect some older features, though we think that’s part of the charm of this home. The farm produces its own Tuscan olive oil and honey, and there is even a top rated restaurant where you can sample some of the farm’s produce. Days can be spent riding the horses from the stable, exploring the area by E-bike, or taking a cookery class at the restaurant, where you might learn how to make fresh pasta or cantuccini. On more relaxed afternoons, treat yourself to a spa or beauty treatment – there is nothing more serene than a massage in the garden, with a gentle breeze and a soundtrack of cicadas.

You will easily fall into the laidback Italian way of life here, and will come away feeling inspired and rejuvenated.

From the garden, the view stretches all the way to Volterra – it’s thirty-four minutes away by car and is ideal for day trips.

The highlight for us has to be the vast garden, where you can lounge by the pool (or in it) and listen to birds chirp as a gentle breeze dances through the trees. In the evenings, kick back in the shaded lounge area after grilling locally-grown veg on the outdoor stove. While somewhat traditionally decorated, this home has a modern heart. You can feel at ease knowing your needs have been taken care of, from the well-outfitted kitchen to the bright bedrooms equipped with that all-important air conditioning. 

If you can bear to leave this secluded spot, venture to nearby Volterra. This walled mountaintop town is a honeypot for history buffs, exhibiting architectural relics from Etruscan, Roman and Medieval periods. Even if this doesn't interest you, the site is well worth a visit for its expansive views across the surrounding hills.

Even though the surroundings look perfectly rural at first glance, there's plenty to see in the surrounding area. Beaches on Italy's west coastline take about forty minutes to reach in the car, as does the city of Pisa. Florence is an hour and a half's drive too, so close enough for a day trip.
