This elegant home is the ideal bolthole for those visiting Venice. It’s in a quiet neighbourhood – Campo Santo Stefano – close to every sight Venice has to offer, but away from the crowds. 

The apartment is a grand family home, with traditional touches like the wood-beamed ceilings. It’s on the fourth floor, and from the windows you can see a pretty skyscape of Venetian rooftops all the way to the Grand Canal. Even more amazingly for Venice, this building has an elevator so those four floors are no trouble at all. 

Take your morning coffee on the balcony, then head out to explore the city. The Vaporetto stop at Santa Maria del Giglio is five minutes from the apartment, so it’s easy to get out on the lagoon. The glorious views from Ponte dell’Accademia can be found just five minutes away, while Piazza San Marco is a ten-minute stroll. Rialto Bridge is nine minutes from the apartment – stroll across it with a gelato for a cheeky touristy moment. 

Calle XXII Marzo, an upmarket avenue of high-end boutiques, is just seven minutes from the apartment. Whether you’re flashing the cash or window shopping, it’s worth a wander.

For somewhere between San Marco and the Rialto bridge, A Call for Calm is remarkably quiet. It’s far from the main thoroughfares, the narrow alleyways that nevertheless carry tens of thousands of tourists to and from St. Mark’s Square every day. It’s also, location aside, a lovely place to stay. The hefty beams stand out, but every part of the design works perfectly together, and while it can only hold three people, Mario looks after a couple of other places in the building, so larger groups can look at potential combinations.


A Call For Calm

This colourful apartment in the heart of Venice is ideal for sharing among couples. Its interior is a tad dated, yet charming, and worth noting is that it’s located on the second floor with steps only. Having said that – we’re sure you’ll be busy sightseeing in a city as unique as this one, with some of its most famous landmarks, such as San Marco Square and the Rialto Bridge, within walking distance. Looking to accommodate a larger group? There are two more apartments in this building which you can try to rent out. 

Venetian Dream

This charming loft space in Venice was once a boatyard – it's been converted to a high standard, with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. We love the elegant decor of this home and its canal views, as well as the private water door giving guests access to a library room. The kitchen is small but has all the necessary electrical appliances – though there are a number of bars and restaurants nearby should you prefer to eat out. There are lots of well-known landmarks within easy walking distance too – Campo Santa Margherita is just two minutes away and the Accademia Bridge is a five-minute walk from the property.

In a salmon-pink old palazzo, this lovely home is a real find. Relax with a glass of Prosecco on the southwest-facing altana, a typical Venetian rooftop terrace, and take in the views over the Venice’s rooftops.
Inside, we love the high-vaulted, loft-style living space with its sun-bleached eau de nil and parched papyrus hues. Take a seat on the L-shaped sofa and plan your Venice itinerary.

This home is in genteel San Samuele, dotted with galleries and antique shops. Palazzo Grassi Museum of Modern Art and Campo Santo Stefano are both a three-minute stroll. St. Mark’s Square is nine minutes on foot, while Palazzo Mocenigo on the Grand Canal, once the Venetian bolthole of romantic poet and literary figure Lord Byron, is fifteen minutes. Or let your host arrange a tour around the lagoon in a skippered ‘bragozzetto’ boat.

It would be reasonable to expect somewhere in San Marco, right by the Grand Canal, to be pretty busy, with streams of tourists winding their way along the streets outside. We can’t stress how little that matches up to the reality of A Call For Quiet. It’s incredibly peaceful, and a wonderful atmosphere to return to after a long day of walking around the city.

Tucked away in a peaceful corner of a buzzing central neighbourhood only minutes from Piazza San Marco, this quiet apartment boasts views from a rooftop terrace facing an aqua canal. Every piece of furniture in this opulent apartment is a work of art, with beautiful antique mirrors, marble floors, and dressers. This includes the magnificent 16th-century four-poster beds in each bedroom, straight from your host’s family castle in Tuscany. This chic little apartment is a great base in Venice. It’s away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas, standing proudly in a salmon-pink palazzetto in upmarket San Samuele. The neighbourhood – once home to Casanova – is home to antique shops and galleries, including the Palazzo Grassi Museum of Modern Art. It’s just a short stroll from St Mark’s Square, as well as the Accademia Bridge and Campo Santo Stefano. The four-poster bed is a nice touch, though guest number three will be on a sofa bed in the open-plan living and dining space.

We particularly love the traditional Italian charm of the living room, which invites in plenty of natural light – although the kitchen is on the smaller side, we suggest dining out. Found in Venice's hip Dorsoduro district, there are plenty of bars and restaurants within easy reach here. However, with that courtyard, you might want to spend more time at home – we think it's a perfect spot for afternoon drinks after a morning exploring the nearby museums, galleries and churches.

Amidst the historic streets of Venice, this apartment makes it easy to explore the iconic sights of the floating city. It’s a short stroll to galleries, Basilicas and local restaurants. Plus, you’ll find easy access to the canals for boat trips and your host is on hand to help organise a range of extras – including guided tours and airport transfers. While the home can sleep five guests comfortably, the walk-through bedroom may be better suited to families. The Fenice Theatre is just opposite the apartment, and with a Vaporetto stop a three-minute walk away, you can travel across the city with ease.

This apartment can be found in the chic and central San Marco area of Venice. The city’s main attractions, including the Rialto Bridge, Grand Canal, and St Mark’s Square, are within easy walking distance. We recommend resting your feet by seeing the sights from the water though – you’re in Venice after all. Rialto and Sant’Angelo vaporetto stops are nearby, so you can zip around the canals with ease. The home itself is traditional and fairly grand – you can look forward to Murano chandeliers and terrazzo flooring. With a building this old, you won’t find a lift, so it’s best to pack light.

Situated in a typical Venetian building – this apartment has gorgeous views from the living and dining room over Venice’s charming canals, as well as glimpses of the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute. If some of your group are split between a preference for a modern or characterful home – well this place mixes both styles. Guests with limited mobility should take note that this home’s building doesn’t have a lift. If that’s not a deal-breaker, you’ll love the location – the Peggy Guggenheim Museum is nearby, while getting to the Lido is easy as the Santo Spirito Vaporetto is just a short walk away.

You'll find it in Dorsoduro, just a short walk from the eye-catching Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute and the artsy Gallerie dell'Accademia. It's on the first floor without a lift, so pack light. We love the Farrow & Ball wallpaper, and in a more practical sense, it's a good size for couples and the addition of a sofa bed makes sleeping arrangements flexible. We reckon you'll spend most of your time here out and about, however – especially since your host can arrange guided tours, gondola rides, cooking lessons and other special experiences.

The historic wood and metal bridge is your gateway to the San Marco district's many iconic sights.
