This charming apartment boasts a rare feature that sets it – quite literally – above the rest. Climb the stairs from the third bedroom and arrive on the roof terrace, from which you can devour a magnificent view of Venice’s skyline, including St Mark’s Campanile. Because of this terrace, this home isn’t suitable for children under the age of 6, but it’s ideal for families with older children, and for groups of friends. For somewhere between San Marco and the Rialto bridge, A Call for Calm is remarkably quiet. It’s far from the main thoroughfares, the narrow alleyways that nevertheless carry tens of thousands of tourists to and from St. Mark’s Square every day. It’s also, location aside, a lovely place to stay. The hefty beams stand out, but every part of the design works perfectly together, and while it can only hold three people, Mario looks after a couple of other places in the building, so larger groups can look at potential combinations.


A Call For Calm

This sweet apartment is the perfect place to call home during a whirlwind getaway to the iconic city of Venice. It's part of a recently converted palace in the Campo San Maurizio, just across from the Museum of Music – and the interior is just as fabulous as the location. 

You'll fall in love with the lavish pink velvet sofa – it's ideal for stretching out and sipping cocktails as you plan your itinerary. The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you need to cook up a tasty Italian feast, which you can serve at the chic dining space. Bedrooms don't come much more decadent than these ones, which are decked out with ornate headboards and traditional wooden beams – and they all have their very own ensuite bathrooms too. 

From here, you're just a ten-minute walk away from both the world-famous St Mark's Square and the Basilica di Santa Maria Della Salute, so ticking off your sightseeing list couldn't be easier. The Sant' Angelo water taxi stop is only two minutes away from the apartment if you'd prefer to travel by canal, and there are also countless restaurants nearby when you need to refuel along the way.

It would be reasonable to expect somewhere in San Marco, right by the Grand Canal, to be pretty busy, with streams of tourists winding their way along the streets outside. We can’t stress how little that matches up to the reality of A Call For Quiet. It’s incredibly peaceful, and a wonderful atmosphere to return to after a long day of walking around the city.


A Call For Quiet

Set in a serene spot near the Convent of the Eremite, this Venetian apartment drops you in a prime position for exploring the city. Peaceful yet close to many restaurants, shops, and attractions such as the Ca' Rezzonico Museum of 18th Century Art, you won’t find yourself lost for things to do here. You’ll need to climb the stairs to the first floor to access this fuss-free home, so it may not be the right fit for those with mobility issues. But peek out of the windows at the canal views and you’ll find the climb worth it.

Lovely Venice

This elegant home is the ideal bolthole for those visiting Venice. It’s in a quiet neighbourhood – Campo Santo Stefano – close to every sight Venice has to offer, but away from the crowds. 

The apartment is a grand family home, with traditional touches like the wood-beamed ceilings. It’s on the fourth floor, and from the windows you can see a pretty skyscape of Venetian rooftops all the way to the Grand Canal. Even more amazingly for Venice, this building has an elevator so those four floors are no trouble at all. 

Take your morning coffee on the balcony, then head out to explore the city. The Vaporetto stop at Santa Maria del Giglio is five minutes from the apartment, so it’s easy to get out on the lagoon. The glorious views from Ponte dell’Accademia can be found just five minutes away, while Piazza San Marco is a ten-minute stroll. Rialto Bridge is nine minutes from the apartment – stroll across it with a gelato for a cheeky touristy moment. 

Calle XXII Marzo, an upmarket avenue of high-end boutiques, is just seven minutes from the apartment. Whether you’re flashing the cash or window shopping, it’s worth a wander. 

However you spend your time in Venice, you’ll be glad to be doing so here. This apartment is comfortable and bright, and in an unbeatable location.

The home has been in the same family for generations, and you can really feel the love and care that's gone into maintaining it. On the top floor of a 16th-century palace right on the Grand Canal, this one-of-a-kind apartment enjoys bespoke furnishings from a range of designers, including the owner. While not the best option for families with young children due to the vintage and delicate furniture, it's a great choice for couples or solo travellers. The central location is the icing on the cake – the views over Santa Maria dei Frari are lovely. The train station is a short walk away and you're right next to a water taxi stop. Plus, there are bars and restaurants nearby.

Overlooking Squero San Trovaso, one of the last remaining gondola builders left in Venice, this conveniently located Dorsoduro apartment offers easy access to the many excellent museums, galleries and churches of Venice but a fraction of the crowds you'll encounter in San Marco. However, when you want to explore further afield, you'll find the nearest vaporetto stop 100m away, while the padlock-covered Ponte dell'Accademia is just five minutes on foot. The historic wood and metal bridge is your gateway to the San Marco district's many iconic sights.

The interior is a triumph of form and function, with stylish contemporary furnishings sitting in an open living space beneath an original exposed beam ceiling. Two large windows ensure plenty of natural light and views over the terracotta-tiled roofs of the Dorsoduro neighbourhood. After a day exploring the city, return home for a well-deserved night's sleep on the mezzanine level.

This sprawling four-story home in the heart of Venice's Dorsoduro district provides a retreat from the bustle of the city. Just a few minutes from the Zattera waterfront and overlooking a town square, you're close to local-approved bars, eateries, and even one of the city's last gondola workshops. But location isn't all we love – this home enraptured us with its opulent style, too. Each room boasts its own decadent colour scheme to match the plush handcrafted Fortuny fabrics on show. Two single sofa beds keep sleeping options flexible. And while the antiques and lack of lift mean children aren't allowed, we think groups of friends will enjoy calling this place home.

The Dorsoduro

For an authentic experience in Venice, this apartment is a good choice. It’s in the San Marco sestiere, close to Palazzo Zaguri, St Mark’s Square, and La Fenice Opera House – location doesn’t get better than this. The vaporetto stops of Accademia, Giglio and Sant’Angelo are all within easy reach, so the city is yours to discover. The apartment is all wood beams and antique furniture – if you like sleek, modern homes, this isn’t the one for you – but it’s full of character. The living room looks out over the campo and the bell tower of Santo Stefano, which makes sipping pre-dinner drinks at home all the more appealing.

Comfortable, unfussy and well-connected, this apartment is an excellent place to call home. Although there’s not much natural light and the kitchen is small, there’s plenty of space for the group to spread out – the living room is separate from the dining area, which is ideal if the sofa bed is in use. In terms of location, you’re around a five-minute walk from Piazzale Roma and twenty minutes from San Marco. What’s more, there’s a water bus stop nearby and you’re not far from Venice’s central train station.
