This elegant home is the ideal bolthole for those visiting Venice. It’s in a quiet neighbourhood – Campo Santo Stefano – close to every sight Venice has to offer, but away from the crowds. 

The apartment is a grand family home, with traditional touches like the wood-beamed ceilings. It’s on the fourth floor, and from the windows you can see a pretty skyscape of Venetian rooftops all the way to the Grand Canal. Even more amazingly for Venice, this building has an elevator so those four floors are no trouble at all. 

Take your morning coffee on the balcony, then head out to explore the city. The Vaporetto stop at Santa Maria del Giglio is five minutes from the apartment, so it’s easy to get out on the lagoon. The glorious views from Ponte dell’Accademia can be found just five minutes away, while Piazza San Marco is a ten-minute stroll. Rialto Bridge is nine minutes from the apartment – stroll across it with a gelato for a cheeky touristy moment. 

Calle XXII Marzo, an upmarket avenue of high-end boutiques, is just seven minutes from the apartment. Whether you’re flashing the cash or window shopping, it’s worth a wander.

If some of your group are split between a preference for a modern or characterful home – well this place mixes both styles. Guests with limited mobility should take note that this home’s building doesn’t have a lift. If that’s not a deal-breaker, you’ll love the location – the Peggy Guggenheim Museum is nearby, while getting to the Lido is easy as the Santo Spirito Vaporetto is just a short walk away.

This home is in genteel San Samuele, dotted with galleries and antique shops. Palazzo Grassi Museum of Modern Art and Campo Santo Stefano are both a three-minute stroll. St. Mark’s Square is nine minutes on foot, while Palazzo Mocenigo on the Grand Canal, once the Venetian bolthole of romantic poet and literary figure Lord Byron, is fifteen minutes. Or let your host arrange a tour around the lagoon in a skippered ‘bragozzetto’ boat.

If you’re in Venice to soak up the history, the museums and the classic Venitian architecture, then this apartment already has you covered before you even start sightseeing. The building is an old palazzo, backing onto the Grand Canal with its own door to the water, should you arrive by water taxi. The 15th-century gothic architecture had us feeling the Venice vibes as soon as we stepped inside. Exploring the grand rooms, there’s a collection of antiques worthy of the Doge’s Palace – from sparkling silver spoons to gilded books and trinket boxes. Silk sofas in the living room are not just easy on the eye, they’re plush and comfy to boot. And the antique bed frames and writing desks in the bedrooms are like living, working history. What’s more, the three bedrooms overlooking the owner’s private, walled garden for a peaceful night’s sleep.

Situated between the Accademia Bridge (a five-minute walk) and Ca’ Rezzonico Museum of 18th Century Art (a three-minute walk), you’re in the heart of Venice’s gallery neighbourhood. The ancient streets around you are home to secret canalways lined with restaurants and bars too.

Amidst the historic streets of Venice, this apartment makes it easy to explore the iconic sights of the floating city. It’s a short stroll to galleries, Basilicas and local restaurants. It offers a great blend of old and new, however, as it is equipped with a wonderfully contemporary kitchen in which we can just imagine whipping up a tasty homecooked meal. The home has been in the same family for generations, and you can really feel the love and care that's gone into maintaining it. The period villa also boasts a great location within the Dorsoduro District close to the Campo Santa Margherita where you will find loads of popular local eateries, bustling bars packed with Venetians, and some cafes perfect for people-watching.

This classy penthouse apartment offers plenty of space in the centre of Venice. Just two minutes walk from the Vaporetto stop, simply jump on the water bus to explore famous landmarks and delicious eateries. Set over two floors, this home can comfortably sleep seven people thanks to a sofa bed on the mezzanine level. Inside you’ll find antiques and wooden beams, which only add to the home’s character, as well as two terraces that offer panoramic views over the city’s rooftops. Opera fans will appreciate the building's proximity to the Fenice Theatre – one of the finest opera houses in the world.

Take in the glimpses of the 14th-century Frari church and the local square from this home’s windows – great for watching the world go by. The accommodation is on the first and second floors, which is great as it maximises those vistas. We should also mention that the third bedroom has a single day bed, and the room is quite compact. Otherwise, this home is perfect for a family or group of friends looking to explore Venice. Location-wise, you’re a short stroll from the Scuola Grande di San Rocco and the Grand Canal is within walking distance as well.

It would be reasonable to expect somewhere in San Marco, right by the Grand Canal, to be pretty busy, with streams of tourists winding their way along the streets outside. We can’t stress how little that matches up to the reality of A Call For Quiet. It’s incredibly peaceful, and a wonderful atmosphere to return to after a long day of walking around the city.


A Call For Quiet

This handsome apartment in Venice is the perfect reflection of the city surrounding it. Elegant and traditional, just a short stroll away from many of the most famous attractions, it's a wonderful place to begin your break in the Floating City. 

Step inside, and you'll fall in love with the lavish collection of furniture, high ceilings, and rustic beams. The kitchen area, with its duck egg blue cabinets and wooden floors, is great for whipping up some pasta and salad to enjoy with a glass of Chianti. And, when it's time for bed, the luxurious beds complete with intricate gilded headboards are waiting for you – you're guaranteed a fabulous night's sleep here. 

The Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, one of the most remarkable churches in all of Venice, is only a five-minute walk away. Cross the Grand Canal, and you will find a selection of wonderful galleries, including the Palazzo Malipiero and the Museo Fortuny. And, if you want to explore the city by boat, you can hop on the Vaporetto – the San Silvestro stop is a three-minute walk away.

Situated in the San Polo district, this apartment is just a three-minute stroll from the iconic Rialto Bridge. You'll also find the Rialto Market here, while Piazza San Marco is a ten-minute walk away. Need a break after all that sightseeing? There's a private terrace back home for enjoying a glass of Prosecco after a busy day. Inside, the kitchen is on the small side – there's no oven, but there's a hob and microwave. Also, at full capacity, two people will sleep on a sofa bed in the living room. All in all, though, this is a decent base for exploring Venice.

This charming apartment boasts a rare feature that sets it – quite literally – above the rest. Climb the stairs from the third bedroom and arrive on the roof terrace, from which you can devour a magnificent view of Venice’s skyline, including St Mark’s Campanile. Because of this terrace, this home isn’t suitable for children under the age of 6, but it’s ideal for families with older children, and for groups of friends. It’s in a peaceful setting in the refined parish of San Samuele, close to all of Venice’s main sights, including the Grand Canal. 

Venice, I Can Feel the Waves

You’ll find this apartment just footsteps from Venice’s main railway station – ideal if you’re arriving or departing by train. The canalside streets surrounding this place are home to myriad restaurants, cafes and gelato parlours – not to mention that the main sights of Venice are easily reached on foot (or by water taxi). The furnishings are simple here, but the decor is a pink-hued delight. There’s room to dine in the kitchen area, and if you’re not using the double sofa bed in the living area, it feels like there’s plenty of space.

Venetian Pink

Comfortable, unfussy and well-connected, this apartment is an excellent place to call home. Although there’s not much natural light and the kitchen is small, there’s plenty of space for the group to spread out – the living room is separate from the dining area, which is ideal if the sofa bed is in use. In terms of location, you’re around a five-minute walk from Piazzale Roma and twenty minutes from San Marco. What’s more, there’s a water bus stop nearby and you’re not far from Venice’s central train station.

Il Dono Della Vita

This chic little apartment is a great base in Venice. It’s away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas, standing proudly in a salmon-pink palazzetto in upmarket San Samuele. The neighbourhood – once home to Casanova – is home to antique shops and galleries, including the Palazzo Grassi Museum of Modern Art. It’s just a short stroll from St Mark’s Square, as well as the Accademia Bridge and Campo Santo Stefano. The four-poster bed is a nice touch, though guest number three will be on a sofa bed in the open-plan living and dining space.

This Venetian building holds charming decor with subtle antique-styled touches, as well as a view of the famous Basilica dei Frari and the canal. Enjoy a cup of coffee as you watch the gondolas pass by below, allowing you to simply observe the locale as you unwind or tuck into a hearty homecooked meal at the dining table by the large window. 

If you're fancying a light bite, the breakfast bar is a great spot to eat with your loved ones with a glass of wine. Snuggle up on the sofa to watch a movie on TV or put your feet up as you delve into a brand new book – the window in the living space gives ample natural daylight.

You’ve got history on all sides, with a view over the Church, Campo and Rio de San Degolà to the front and the Salizada Dei Fondaco Dei Turchi to the back. 

Housed in what was once the monastery attached to the ancient Church of San Degolà (one of the oldest in Venice), you can still feel the history of this place in the towering ceilings and traditional Venetian terrazzo flooring. Glittering candelabra illuminate grand rooms, and the sitting room is furnished with glorious Roccoco armchairs and plush leather sofas. For somewhere between San Marco and the Rialto bridge, A Call for Calm is remarkably quiet. It’s far from the main thoroughfares, the narrow alleyways that nevertheless carry tens of thousands of tourists to and from St. Mark’s Square every day. It’s also, location aside, a lovely place to stay. The hefty beams stand out, but every part of the design works perfectly together, and while it can only hold three people, Mario looks after a couple of other places in the building, so larger groups can look at potential combinations.

Sitting on the other side of the Grand Canal directly opposite Venezia Santa Lucia, this is a superb starting point from which to explore this unique city. More than that, however, it's an excellent home in its own right, too.

A little more contemporary than many other dwellings you'll find nearby, there's still a taste of tradition in the antique furnishings, the wooden doors that line the main living space and the prettily tiled terrace that lies on the other side. Otherwise, the design is fairly minimalist, with stark white walls and parquet flooring, plus a sleek kitchen that may be a little basic, but will more than suffice for modest meals.

Of course, if cooking isn't on the agenda, there's a good selection of restaurants and bars in the nearby Santa Croce neighbourhood that will keep you fuelled up. Many of the must-see attractions – including the Santa Maria cathedral and the Ca' Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art – are easily reachable on foot, too.

This colourful apartment in the heart of Venice is ideal for sharing among couples. Its interior is a tad dated, yet charming, and worth noting is that it’s located on the second floor with steps only.
