On your way to the beach, just 2km away, crawl into the local restaurant for a spot of lunch. Comporta's coastlines are picturesque, perfect for lounging in the sand and catching the rays. After a day of soaking up the Portuguese sunshine, be sure to gather your loved ones around the built-in barbecue back at home for an evening watching the sunset and indulging in divine local ingredients. A beautiful contemporary villa with a relaxing zen feeling will be the backdrop to a wonderful holiday to remember. 

Woven in Magic

This modern home close to Portugal’s western coast is a great place for families or groups of friends. Each of the bedrooms comes with an ensuite and has direct access to either a terrace or private balcony. The open-plan living space provides a cosy space for communal meals, or you can make use of the built-in barbecue and outdoor dining area. When you return, rustle up a fresh seafood dinner on the barbecue, and eat together alfresco under the pergola with a bottle of Portuguese wine. Don’t feel like cooking? Hire a private chef for the evening and relax while tasting some of the local delicacies of northwest Portugal.

Post-dinner, retire to the fire pit to toast marshmallows and watch the sunset over the fields, or indulge in an evening swim in the private swimming pool. 

River & Rice Fields

And while it might be hard to leave this coastal sanctuary, it’s a great base for exploring Comporta and the Tróia Peninsula.

This spacious family home, located in a tranquil location, within a twenty-minute walk to the beach, is an ideal base for a relaxing and restful stay. Situated in the Lagoa de Albufeira region, the house is off the beaten track, and is perfect for those seeking refuge from the hustle and bustle of city living. 

Here, you’ll be able to enjoy long country walks and cycling expeditions, thanks to the free bikes provided by your host. Immerse yourself in the surrounding beauty, with pine forests and plenty of secret nooks, where you can daydream and relax. 

The house itself is bright and welcoming, with a lovely open-space kitchen and lounge area, big enough to accommodate the entire family. Rustle up delicious meals in the fully equipped kitchen and enjoy them either at the dining table inside or, better still, on the veranda. Here you’ll also find a barbecue oven, perfect for those evening feats in the warm summer air. On sunny afternoons, why not jump in the pool or catch up on your holiday reads while lounging comfortably on one of the sunbeds dotted around the garden.

Lavender & Pines

If we were to tell you of a hideaway that sits in the middle of twelve hectares of lush pine forest in rural Comporta, you might imagine a certain type of home and we're willing to wager that it doesn't look anything like this wonderfully modern residence.

Not only does the boxy white exterior look visually striking from the outside, but this sense of awe will continue as you step through the glass doors. Our favourite space is the double-height living, which is flooded with natural light from the copious number of windows that line the walls. However, the modern brown kitchen and equally glossy bathrooms are sure to take your breath away, as well. The design throughout feels cohesive, united by a preference for clean lines, sleek surfaces and chic minimalism.

Given the agreeable climate that this corner of the Iberian peninsula enjoys, you'll likely want to spend as many hours outdoors as possible and that's easy to do here. The long infinity swimming pool is both wonderfully refreshing when the midday sun is at its highest and made all the more relaxing by the heady scent of fragrant herbs and vegetation that grow around the sides. There are plenty of terraces and balconies on which to take a seat and do nothing more strenuous than soak up the rays, but you can also find a tennis court if you fancy a match or two.

Although there's a strong sense of tranquillity from the isolated position, you don't have to venture far to find the Portuguese coastline. Carvalhal and Pego beaches can be reached in ten minutes or so in the car, and there are a few restaurants and bars to be found close to these seaside spots.


Finesse in the Forest

The home comprises three separate units – one with a luxurious living space, one containing the main bedroom and a final module containing two additional bedrooms. While it might not be ideal for families with young children, it works exceptionally well for families with older kids and groups of friends.

Interior spaces vibe perfectly with the creative, barefoot bohemian character of Comporta. Think bleached wood, wicker furniture and earth tones that help you feel integrated into your surroundings. Each building has been designed to remove the barriers between you and the natural world, with large doors that swing out to provide seamless access to the central pool surrounded by sun loungers and a rustic pergola for outdoor dining in the shade.

The dune garden boardwalk gives way to wild beaches, with two of Comporta's best-known stretches of sand just a short walk away. Here, you can spend days soaking up the sun beneath cloudless skies, frolicking in the surf and exploring the ever-shifting sand dunes.

Cabanas da Comporta

It's pretty clear what was at the top of the list for the architect that designed this intriguing home in Comporta – natural light and lots of it. Enormous walls of glass line the sides of the home and the dazzlingly white interior design only accentuates this plentiful natural asset. These huge windows also have the added benefit of looking out to peaceful views of local rice fields, too.

As you can probably begin to tell, it's a rather relaxing address. There are lots of spots in the tropical garden in which to appreciate the local tranquillity, whether on the back of a lounger or while dining alfresco on the table. Whenever the temperature takes a dip, you can head back inside and cosy up next to the contemporary fireplace in the lounge.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the locale, there are vast swathes of golden beaches covering the Portuguese coastline that start from as close as 1.5km away, while the nearest town is only 2km away for when you're in need of restaurants and shops.

Invisible Light

Just a short stroll from the beach, this contemporary home opens its doors to a laidback coastal getaway. Outside, there’s a heated pool for refreshing swims and a terrace for alfresco dining and drinks. Inside, the rooms are just as inviting with a living area and a fire for cosy gatherings, a mezzanine level with a desk for remote workers and three thoughtfully designed bedrooms (each with an en-suite bathroom).
