Tucked within 23 hectares of Portuguese woodland, this villa is a rare find for large groups who want seclusion without sacrificing comfort. Ancient pines shade the timber terraces, the double-height living space draws the forest inside through floor-to-ceiling glass, and the bedrooms wake you to leafy views each morning. Outside, a swimming pool sits among landscaped gardens with barbecue facilities, and a paddle tennis court gives everyone something to do. Comporta Beach – wild, dune-fringed Atlantic shoreline – is a fifteen-minute drive, while the Sado Estuary is close enough for dolphin and flamingo spotting.

Pines and Twenty-Four

Forty-four hectares of Alentejo landscape with no neighbours in sight sets the scene for this villa – a place where the silence feels deliberate. A cathedral-ceilinged living room with a fireplace anchors the interiors, while outside, a heated pool with a timber deck and a covered poolhouse bar make it tempting to stay put. The main suite adds a private sitting room and a rooftop terrace above the pines, and when you're ready to explore, two quads and a four-seat off-roader give you access to the estate and, five minutes' ride away, a private stretch of Atlantic coast.

Pines and the Atlantic

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to stay in a work of art? In this striking villa, designed by renowned architect Joao Pedro Falcao de Campos, you can. Dominated by strong lines and sharp angles, this bold home is a gorgeous contrast against its natural setting. Rice paddies, sand dunes, luscious forests, and the sparking Atlantic Ocean make up the landscape surrounding this contemporary home near the hippy-chic village of Carvalhal. Not only is this villa beautiful, in an unbeatable location, but it’s a relaxation paradise. Whether you’re soaking in the free-standing tub, practising sunrise yoga classes, getting a massage by a professional masseuse, or letting a private chef take care of dinner, this is your time to relax.

Inside the villa, the simple, minimalist design lets the natural wood do the talking. We can’t get enough of the wall lined by wooden shelves, accentuating its angles and adding an artistic flair. And while some modern homes don’t always have that warmth that makes us relax and feel comfortable, the fireplace, warm-toned light fixtures, and plush sofa see to it that you will. The wood-lined wall guides you to the kitchen and with a huge island, top-notch appliances, and surfaces made of Estremoz stone – it’s a chef’s dream.

The home is a special one, but we imagine you’ll be spending most of your time making the most of the incredible outdoors. The garden is partially decked and partially sand, surrounded by greenery, really making you feel like you’re on your own island. While away the days reading by the heated pool, occasionally taking a dip in the waters, and watching the little ones make sand castles in the garden. If the sand has you in the mood to go to the beach, you’re just a five-minute walk from Praia de Pego. Or, you can use the villa’s bikes to get there in no time, while freely exploring more of the beautiful area and popping into the nearby villages. After all that action, a crisp glass of wine straight from your wine fridge will taste even better. We struggle to find a better feeling than enjoying fresh barbecue alfresco, sipping on a nice glass of wine, and enjoying each other’s company, while the fiery sun sets.

Mothership

A short walk from the stunning expanse of Praia do Prego, this beachside villa encapsulates laidback Portuguese living. The open-plan interiors combine bohemian style with striking architectural features – we love the immense cabana-style ceiling – while sliding glass doors ensure minimal separation between the outside and inside. Little ones will enjoy exploring the winding paths in the garden, while adults can relax by the pool – or escape to the hidden lounge area with a drink and a book. This is precisely the place for an off-the-grid escape, yet you're just a short drive from supermarkets and cafes in Carvalhal.

Cabana Vibes

This lovely villa nestles in the traditional village of Possanco, with views of the rice fields of the Sado river. Simplistic and modern with a private pool and balconies right from the bedrooms, you'll also have optional luxuries like a private chef or a buggy for exploring off-road. There may not be storage for extensive shopping trips here, but this home's main highlight is its location. You'll be a short drive from Comporta, where you'll find shopping, essentials and good food. Days at Comporta beach aren't much further away, and there's even a golf course a little further afield.

Refuge of Salt and Rice

In the picturesque heart of Comporta, this home welcomes you to slow down and enjoy the magic of outdoor living. From the heated pool and the stunning views to the thoughtfully designed rooms, every detail has been considered to inspire ease and relaxation. You can sit back and soak it all in from the terrace or the cosy living room. There’s a fire for cooler evenings and all the essentials you could need to settle in and make it your own. And when it comes to explorations further afield, it’s just 4-kilometres to the nearest beach, while the nearest amenities are also just a short drive away.

Heaven is a Place

Tucked into the coastal pine landscape of Aroeira, this house is built for long, unhurried days outdoors. The private garden and pool are the natural centre – cool off in the water, then settle into the afternoon sun on the terrace, or pull chairs together for an alfresco dinner as the evening arrives. Inside, the breezy kitchen and living area keep everyone in the same orbit, with a pool view to draw the eye. Families are well catered for, with a safety fence around the pool and a full kit for young children. The Atlantic surf coast and the fairways of Aroeira Golf Resort are both close by.

This wonderful home is the kind you’ll fondly daydream about when you’re back at home, listening to drizzle patter against the windows. Everything you might want or need during your stay has been thought of in this luxurious and welcoming home, so you can focus on enjoying every last second of your break.

The villa is bright and stylish, with decor and finishes that would be at home in an interior design magazine. It’s beautiful, with splashes of colour adding warmth and fun. You’ll wake up to feel the sunshine on your pillow, tempting you to head through the floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors outside to the terrace. Sip an espresso as you breathe in the warm, sweet-scented air.

The outside space has been as thoughtfully considered as the house. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a sun-worshipper or prefer to lounge in the shade. Table tennis will keep the big kids entertained, while you cool off in the refreshing solar-heated pool. There’s a gym inside, too, so you can easily get a workout in – though we might be more tempted by a yoga session on the terrace.

When you want to explore further afield, you might stroll to Galé beach, or perhaps hop in the car to visit Troia. History buffs will enjoy seeing the Roman ruins at Cetobriga, while golfers might choose to stay closer to home – Troia Golf is a five-minute drive from the villa. This is truly a holiday home with something for everyone – you’ll never want to leave.

Tranquil Sands Retreat

Peace, privacy and beautiful views – this home welcomes you to enjoy it all from the heart of Comporta. You can also savour blissful swims in the pool, lazy afternoon siestas in the shade and long barbecue meals served on the terrace. Daily housekeeping is included in your stay and your host can help organise extras like private chefs and yoga sessions for an additional fee. You might never want to leave this sanctuary, but you can walk to the nearest restaurants and it’s just 1 kilometre to the nearest beach.

Beauty's Secret

Slide open the dining room doors and lunch is poolside – it really is that easy at this home in Aroeira. Built around its sun-drenched terrace, you'll find a shimmering pool and sun loungers waiting. A double-height living room and a retro arcade machine round out the picture indoors, making it a strong choice for families. When you're ready to explore, the Setúbal Peninsula's sweeping Atlantic beaches and pine-fringed golf courses are close at hand.

Aroeira Allure

Set within a pine-filled resort near Setúbal, this house is built around the garden – a generous, sheltered retreat with a deck made for long alfresco dinners as dusk settles in. The main suite upstairs has a private balcony and a Jacuzzi bath for whenever you want to slow down entirely.
