If you love books, then we’d recommend a browse around Livraria Lello, said to be one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world – it’s well worth the eleven-minute stroll.

Back at this home, take in the views over the city from your private balcony with a glass of rich Port or a cup of coffee. Alternatively, relax on the green mid-century style sofa, next to the potted palm in the light-filled open plan living space. Set in a quiet corner of Ribeira, the Douro River, Praça da Ribeira Square, and neoclassical Bolsa Palace are all just a short stroll away. It’s worth noting if six guests share, two of you will have to make do with a double sofa bed in the living space. Not ideal for some, but it could work great for family sharing. The small inner courtyard is a nice touch for sundowners, and there’s plenty of space to spill out around the dining table for lazy breakfasts of pastel de natas picked up from the nearby bakeries.

Take your pick from Praça da Ribeira Square, the neoclassical Bolsa Palace or Douro River – it's all just a short stroll away. Back home, the courtyard garden is a nice touch for morning coffees, even though there's not much of a view. However, the Juliet balcony windows overlooking Porto's rooftops from the living room and main bedroom make up for that.

You're close to almost everything – stroll three minutes and visit the blue-tiled Igreja de Santo Ildefonso, wander ten to reach Avenida dos Aliados or head down to the riverfront and walk along the Ribeira, thirteen minutes away.

The apartment itself is as cosy as can be. We're swooning over the period features – traditional shuttered windows, high ceilings and crown moulding are just a few of our favourite details. A quaint Juliet balcony overlooks the hustle and bustle below – the perfect spot for a morning coffee – while the comfy sofa beckons after a long day on your feet. If you need to work from home, you can even set up shop at the dining table as the sunlight streams into the living area. While we wouldn't suggest rustling up a feast in the kitchen, it's perfectly suited to lighter bites – and besides, with so many mouth-watering eateries on your doorstep, we doubt you'll get up to much cooking.

Spending time here is a pleasant experience, highlighted by the sleek modern furniture. There aren't many entertainment options in this home, but if you're here to explore the city, then you'll love coming back to this luminous apartment.

It’s a two-minute walk from the restaurant and shop-lined Rua Santa Catarina and the streets around the apartment are filled with spots serving local Portuguese cuisine. It’s also just a four-minute walk to Mercado do Bolhão with its fresh produce stalls galore. Stock up and head back to your haven in the city centre.

A fully-equipped kitchen can turn that fresh veg into a hearty family feast in no time and dining is a delight in the sunny spot. The living room is sleek and minimalist with two slate-grey sectionals providing plenty of room for everyone. From here, you can admire the rooftop view out the window. A nice touch is the vintage TV cabinet, which hides a record player to set the right ambience. Wooden floors and cornicing like icing on a cake in the bedrooms feel distinctly classic Porto.
