Located in Orange County's fun-filled playground, Santa Ana, this crowd-pleasing apartment ticks all the right boxes. Whether you're looking to take the family on a relaxing seaside getaway to Laguna Beach, only a thirty-minute drive away, or visiting Disneyland for a jam-packed weekend with the kids, just a ten-minute drive from home, this spot is perfectly placed. With so much to see and do around here, return to your cosy new pad for a well-deserved lie-down on the plush, grey velvet sofa – sitting down for a moment's peace, you'll notice tasteful artwork, curated plants and natural materials that make for a breathable and calming atmosphere to unwind in. Come together for a family dinner around the industrial-chic dining table with leather brown chairs, before playing games out on your private, fairy-lit terrace. Elsewhere, this stay offers everything you need for a relaxing break in California, with access to the on-site swimming pool and gym, plus a dedicated work lounge and coffee bar for those still working while on holiday. We told you it ticks every box. 

Woody

Though you’re on the sunny California shores of Laguna Beach, there’s a Nantucket vibe to this beach house. Wooden bannisters on balconies, a clapboard facade and a white-wood porch out back give it that New England boathouse feel, alongside nautical touches like painted life rings and scenes of the sea on the walls. After a day at the beach (Treasure Island Cove is a five-minute walk), head back to your peaceful garden for a drink in the shade, or head up to the balcony at sunset and watch the sky and sea streak pink and purple. Perhaps fire up the grill for a fresh seafood feast under the porch. Inside, you'll find a wet bar in the lounge if you fancy a cocktail by the fire. Your host owns a furnishing company, and it shows in the designer sofas and Hungarian goose down comforters on sprawling beds. We particularly love the fresh flowers in the kitchen and the superb views of the ocean from every room.

The Captain's Boathouse

Built in 1960, this mid-century modern home is located just two blocks from the village and the beach itself, you couldn't be in a better position to enjoy all the area has to offer. The home still has that vintage charm whilst also having a sleek modern interior. There's even a fireplace in the living room, perfect for a winter's day if you find yourself staying here during those colder months.

Just a short walk from the beach and close by to some delicious eateries – we recommend Taco Loco for some amazing fusion food. Why not be adventurous and try out some surfing using equipment bought at Surf N Paddle?

After a day spent at the beach, or in the water, head back home to cook up a tasty feast on the BBQ. Feel free to spend the evening gathered around the outdoor fire pit or sit back and relax on the magical patio with sweeping views of the ocean. 

The Moonline

This home is nestled in West Beach, one of Santa Barbara's most sought-after neighbourhoods. We can see why that's the case. Not only is the picturesque beach within strolling distance, but you're not far from trendy eateries, bars, and shops, either. During downtime, settle down on the private patio with a glass of local wine. The home was built in 1937, and the decor indoors has captured that unique style. We love the traditional features, though some may find the kitchen and bathroom to be a tad dated. Alongside the comfy bedroom, there's a pull-down Murphy bed in the lounge – ideal for little ones or short trips.


West Beach Belle

With sweeping ocean views and easy beach access, it’s not hard to see why this Santa Barbara home caught our eye. We love the open-plan living and kitchen area, making the most of the vistas while providing plenty of space for socialising. And, with a games room, hot tub, sun-kissed garden and alfresco dining opportunities, you’ll never be lost for things to do. When you’re ready to explore, hop on the bikes for a two-wheeled sightseeing tour. Beach calling your name? Sandy shores await just down the street via a set of steps, or you can jump in the car and make the short one-minute drive to Leadbetter beach. 

Santa Barbara Soul

Pretty as a daisy, this quaint craftsman-style cottage makes for a romantic bolthole in the heart of Solvang. For those who have not been here or heard of this small town in California's Santa Ynez Valley, it's known for its many wineries, but most importantly for the unexpected Danish-style architecture that's linked to its heritage. You can walk everywhere in this vibrant little town and discover its many eateries, shops and, of course, bakeries. Pick up a Danish and enjoy it with your morning cup of Joe on your front porch, before driving to a winery for a tasting or to the rugged coast for a dip in the ocean – it sounds idyllic, doesn't it? 

Daisy Two

Dreaming of sunny California? This luxury beach house captures the best that the Golden State has to offer. Roll out of bed and onto the beach to surf amongst tousel-haired locals. If you can’t catch a wave, you’ll be sure to see someone else do it from the living room’s ocean-facing windows. The sea is never far away, with stunning vistas to be found from the dining room to the spacious master bedroom. The interior is modern and minimal, mixing seaside chic with contemporary design. We especially love the sofas made from reclaimed wood; cosy up beside the gas fireplace and catch a movie on the 60” flat-screen TV. There’s even more fun to be had outside. Top up your Californian tan on the sundeck and then cool off in the private pool. In the evening, fry up a feast with the family on the BBQ and crack open a beer beside the firepit. 

Golden State

Nature lovers will feel perfectly at home in this earth-friendly Ojai ranch. Nestled among citrus and avocado trees, you’ll find this rustic sanctuary filled with handcrafted art and hidden treasures. The house also features a water purification system, biodegradable essentials and plenty of cosy nooks to read, relax or catch up on work. Outside, you can enjoy warm evenings swaying in the hammock and watching the stars while gathered around the fire pit. There is also a clay tennis court and plenty to explore in the surroundings. From here, it’s less than a ten-minute drive to Downtown Ojai. 

Moonlight Kingdom

Escape from the stress of urban life with a stay in this charming log cabin, surrounded by ancient pine forests. With breathtaking walks right from your doorstep, a fantastic board game collection, and little-to-no phone signal, you are guaranteed to come back from this trip feeling completely invigorated.

A small family or group of four, plus any well-behaved pets, can spend some quality time together in the tranquil setting. Sit around the crackling fireplace on chilly nights or barbecue under the stars on a balmy summer's night. 

Rustic yet intimate, the interior feels like you're tucked away as California's little secret. The peaceful ambiance is ideal if you're looking to work on a creative project and need a place to let your ideas flow.

Outside of the retreat, the encompassing scenery is adorned by enticing walking trails. Follow the winding paths through the exotic flora and fauna that decorate the rural landscape. It's like walking through a magical fairytale. 

Scout Cabin

Inspired by Diego Rivera, this charming home moments from West Beach is a real find for friends and families headed to Santa Barbara. Blending a resort like feel with the comforts of home, the villa features two king size bedrooms and two bathrooms, which flow into a large living room, dining area and kitchen filled with thoughtful and eye-catching design touches. If you're eager to catch some rays, the garden is large and includes a dining table for alfresco breakfasts, as well as a barbeque grill for evening cookouts. You'll also be a fifteen minute walk from the beach, while the sights and lights of downtown are only half an hour inland.

West Beach Arthouse

Go to bed after watching the spectacular sunset over the Pacific and wake up to the sound of the crashing waves at this jaw-dropping beachfront home in the surfside city of San Clemente. 

Contemporary coastal cool is the order of the day, with plenty of light wood, fresh blue furnishings and pristine white walls, all accentuated by the sunlight that pours in 342 days a year through large windows and retractable glass doors that look out over the ocean.

There's plenty of space for all the family, with large open living spaces, a stunning modern kitchen with eye-catching quartz worktops, a dedicated games room with a billiards table, plus a lovely office to make the idea of working while on holiday a little more palatable. 

Sleeping arrangements are taken care of across five spacious bedrooms. A large loft room packed with games and a console allows you to leave the kids to it as you enjoy a glass of something cold out on the covered terrace, or lay out on a lounger on the promontory pointing out to sea.

If the call of the ocean proves too much, you won't have to walk far to access Lost Winds beach below. With consistent surf, volleyball courts, and the opportunity to jog or cycle along the 2.6-mile beach trail, there's plenty on offer here. However, seasoned surfers might want to check out nearby breaks including Trestles, T Street and San Onofre. Lowers (at Trestles beach) is the best of the bunch and the home of high performance surfing. Sometimes it's best just to sit back and marvel at the pros.

After a day of adrenaline-pumping activity, cooking may well be the last thing on your mind. Handily, San Clemente is home to a wide array of restaurants serving everything from American comfort food, farm-to-table fare and creative Mexican classics washed down with a mescal.
