Built in the 1960s, in the Spanish Colonial Revival style, this home is endlessly cool and boasts some outstanding features. As well as games like croquet and corn hole, there are two outdoor tubs, and even an outdoor movie screen. You'll spot healing crystals set into the walls at carefully considered intervals. There’s everything from aventurine for emotional calm to smoky quartz for grounding and cleansing. And the location is hard to beat. You'll be right in the heart of the breathtaking landscape but it's still easy to experience the nearby restaurants, bars and boutique shops. La Copine is just round the corner, while the famous Pappy & Harriet’s is about fifteen minutes away. You can reach Joshua Tree National Park in about twenty-five minutes by car.

This fun desert home conjures up a mix of vintage hippy culture and the modern Boho chic style. Renovated and enlarged from a late-1950s villa, this place has a history. It was built when Landers and its Mojave Desert setting first became a place of pilgrimage for the original hippies. Inside, there's a welcoming, open-plan feel with an eclectic collection of decorative odds and ends. This is desert living, so outside there's the firepit table with distant mountain views, a barbecue grill and a traditional cowboy tub for getting clean in the open air. For a town of just 2,000 people, there’s plenty of things to do nearby. Try sonic healing sessions at the circular Integratron or marvel at the Giant Rock – a seven-storey-high boulder. Drink local brews from the Landers Brewing Company, explore Joshua Tree National Park and do some next-level stargazing.

A spot of quirky, camp cowboy fun in the desert, this 1940s cabin was redesigned in 2020 by TV-stylist and interior design guru Doug Wiand. The frontier-style home has mixed kitsch wild west with luxury modernity: think chequered curtains, planked ceilings and pine stable doors contrasting against a jade green tiled kitchen and reclaimed artwork. When you're not sheltering from the heat on one of the velvet sofas or soaking in the free-standing bath, the backyard offers a taste of the desert life. During the day, shelter from the Californian sunshine on the patio or nab the shaded hammock - though Joshua Tree National Park is only a 25-minute drive from here, if adventure comes calling. As the sun starts to set over the rugged plains, the outdoor hot tub is on hand to unwind, while one of your party lights up the BBQ. As the stars come out, huddle around the firepit to keep warm, with the lack of light pollution perfect for meteor spotting - or was it another potential sighting of a UFO that this area is famous for?

If you want to get out and explore, Joshua Tree town is a twenty-minute drive and the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park is just beyond for endless desert and mountain hiking trails.

Set on ten acres of wilderness in the Mojave Desert, the enchantment begins the moment you turn on to the five kilometre private dirt road. We’d describe it as high design in the wild desert. There are floor-to-ceiling sliders in every room (apart from the bathrooms) framing magical views, and furniture by iconic designers like Christian Liagre as well as one-of-a-kind artworks and Moroccan rugs. While you’re just a short drive from the bars and shops of Pioneertown, we’ll wager that once this sanctuary has cast its spell, you’ll never want to leave. Wake up early for an incredible sunrise, walk through the boulders seeking serenity, take a dip in the outdoor tin bath, and stay up late counting stars in the hot tub or round the fire pit. There are cacti, desert and mountain views aplenty in this fabulous home in the heart of the Yucca Valley. Just over six kilometres from the Joshua Tree Visitor Centres and nearby cafes, and even closer to the nearest desert museum, you get the full Joshua Tree experience without being completely cut off from civilisation. The house is set on a five-acre plot and decorated in the laid-back and comfortable style you'd expect. While the home is equipped with all the usual mod cons, it's retained plenty of quaint charm with wood-panelled walls, a record player and retro games console sitting alongside a lightning-fast internet connection and various streaming options. There's also a separate casita ideal for couples. We loved the wicker mirrors, wall hangings, hammock-style hanging seats and the peaceful, minimalist bedroom interiors. Outside you'll find a wood-fired hot tub ideal for chilly evenings and a pink stucco in-ground pool for afternoons. When you're not neck-deep in water, the wooden seating area and firepit is a perfect place to admire the pink and red sunset skies.

Nestled among large boulders and desert sands, this home is a true Joshua Tree getaway with a private saltwater pool/spa and outdoor shower. With no neighbours around, it's an escape from civilisation that's at one with nature and design. The floor-to-ceiling moving glass walls blur the lines between the indoors/outdoors, allowing you to take advantage of the surroundings at all times. Inside, works by local artists and famous designers merge, while the kitchen sets the scene for great meals. We could go on and on about this home – but you should really check it out for yourself!

This small but perfectly formed cabin can be found in the heart of Yucca Valley on 2.5 acres of wilderness. The perfect base for a small family or two couples, it’s been thoughtfully decorated with a mid-century design meets boho vibe. We love the funky geometric tiles in the kitchen and the colourful rugs scattered throughout the home. Drive down the unmade dirt track to Pioneertown for a taste of the Wild West or head to Joshua Tree National Park for wild landscapes and stellar hiking opportunities. We can see ourselves relaxing on the canopied sun lounger with a glass of something cold in hand as the sun goes down. The stargazing in the hi-desert is something to write home about so after supper, just lie back and enjoy.

A hilltop cabin in a unique area of the desert, this place is nestled on its own between Pioneertown and Yucca Valley on what feels like the scenic drive through Joshua Tree National Park. The trees, rocks, and landscape just outside the doors are just as breathtaking as anything you would see in the park, except you have them all to yourself. 

There’s a wood-burning stove to keep you warm on those chill nights, while one of your musically talented friends can play a tune on the grand piano (though there’s also a Bluetooth sound system, for convenience). On the walls, you’ll find original art by the late Gerald Zeldin, and an interior so impressive it was featured in the NY Times fashion section. You can feel the history of this old mining cabin in the wood-beamed ceiling and clapboard (yet modern)  bathroom. Picture-frame windows let the sunlight stream into this boho-chic interior and let you gaze out over the endless desert before you.

This place is totally off-grid and once you’ve experienced the unique feeling of heating the outdoor hot tub with firewood as you gaze at the stars, there’s no going back.

Get a fire crackling in the fire pit to keep the desert chill at bay, and spend days sprawled out in the sun on the wooden deck overlooking the miles and miles of rugged terrain. Our favourite part of this home has to be the round chill-out room where a curved sofa sits in the sunshine of a towering glass atrium and a wet bar awaits for drinks by the fire. Picture frame windows in the dine-in kitchen keep that desert view coming and bedrooms are decked out in boho-chic with macrame wall art and raw wood furnishings. Find inner peace in the yoga room where a curved wall of windows lets the desert light stream in. When it comes to exploring the great outdoors, Joshua Tree National Park entrance is a twenty-minute drive away, and downtown Joshua Tree and Pioneertown are both twelve minutes away.

Wild Rocks is one of those homes that always appears effortlessly chic. Designed by Oller & Pejic, it’s an architectural gem set against Yucca Valley’s rugged desert terrain. The sliding glass doors blur the lines between the inside and outside, allowing you to enjoy home-cooked meals on the terrace, gaze at the stars, and relax in the hot tub. We also loved the enormous record collection, which features some of the host Joann’s all-time favourite tunes. Found just a short drive from Joshua Tree National Park, there are plenty of exciting adventures waiting for you.

We like all the personal touches, too — such as the vinyl record player and Public Goods toiletries. Our favourite bit, though, has to be the backyard. It's essentially a second living space, with a large sectional sofa, six-seater dining table, and cosy fire pit to enjoy. We can just imagine whiling away the evenings out there, watching the unforgettable desert sunset, chatting around the fire, or dining under the stars. Joshua Tree National Park is just a 15-minute drive away and is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts wanting to hike, cycle, or even horseback ride. Culture vultures will love the area's selection of art galleries and vineyards, too. No matter how you spend your day, we know you'll love coming home and unwinding at this unique desert hideaway.

There are spaces for meditation and yoga, both indoors and out, and the desert aesthetic has been perfectly captured in the design. A renovated mid-century home, it's minimalist and charming. Outside, you have a grill and a hot tub, which is a great spot for watching the stars move across the clear desert skies. All of that’s without even mentioning the location. You can walk into Joshua Tree Village, which has several excellent cafes and restaurants, and if you drive ten minutes in the other direction, you’ll reach the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park.

As soon as you step through the door of this renovated 1960s house, you know you’ve found something pretty special. With a dazzling desert setting and an interior that could grace the cover of a glossy magazine, it’s not your average home.
