For the ultimate Joshua Tree retreat, you really only need three things –total comfort, unobstructed views of the wondrous landscape and luxurious amenities to help you relax – and that’s exactly what you get with this home. It's impeccably designed from top to bottom, with effortlessly stylish furnishings enhanced by natural light that casts different hues throughout the day – it's a truly divine space. Slide open the glass panels on bright desert mornings for a soothing early dip in the saltwater pool or a luxuriant soak in the hot tub as you reconnect with Mother Nature. If you prefer to start your days more dynamically, get your blood pumping with a workout in the gym, or a revitalising morning hike, followed by an indulgent outdoor shower and an alfresco brunch in the sun-dappled dining area. But, of course, spending time indoors is just as serene as you cosy up by the fire on cooler days, enjoy your favourite music on the in-built sound system and settle in for a movie marathon on the projector screen. Finally, end the day right as you survey the jagged mountain peaks, keeping an eye (and ear) out for the local wildlife, with your feet up and a sundowner in hand.

Le Chacuel

Get off-grid at this boho chic home in the middle of the desert, built with eco friendly principles in mind and powered by the sun. The interior has been designed to let the natural breeze keep things cool, and thick stone walls give it a Spanish feel. Potted cacti are dotted around the living room, where a rustic wood-burning stove keeps the desert chill away at night. A stunning, white stone breakfast bar creates plenty of prep space in the kitchen, where you can rustle up meals after days exploring the desert. After dining from the beautiful earthenware crockery, head outside to do some stargazing from the sofas. There's also a hammock strung up on the shaded porch, where you can look out over endless sky and rugged landscapes from morning until night. You'll feel perfectly at peace here, but if you'd like to add a little excitement into the mix, then the live music bars and shops of historic Pioneertown are only a ten minute drive away. 

Under The Rocks

An architect's eye has been turned to this Yucca Valley getaway, which pops out of the desert in clean lines, stamped textiles, and potted plants. The home, which belongs to a local activist and artist, is an oasis of cool; white walls, hanging lights, and reclaimed wooden furniture are the name of the game here, while a monochrome, metro-tiled bathroom is perfect for soaking or scrolling up your Instagram feed. The real draw here, however, is the incredible location. When we say you're out in nature, we really mean it. Reached by a sandy dirt track, it feels as wild as the desert landscape that surrounds it. Relax in the cowboy-style tub during the day or explore the two acres of Joshua Tree forest or Joshua Tree National Park (a twenty-five-minute drive away), before setting up camp for the night. With little light pollution, the starry sky is clearer out here than ever – whether you're gathered around the fire pit, sat under the fairy light-strewn canopy or ogling constellations through the telescope, it's a sanctuary of peace, solitude and natural beauty. 

Palo Verde's Bloom

Set in acres and acres of untamed desert landscape, it doesn’t get much more serene than this palatial Joshua Tree villa. The surreal landscape of boulders and cacti is illuminated with custom lighting at night so you can admire it during a moonlight soak in the hot tub, or an evening dip in the sunken cowboy tub as the desert sky is speckled with stars. Get a fire crackling in the fire pit to keep the desert chill at bay, and spend days sprawled out in the sun on the wooden deck overlooking the miles and miles of rugged terrain. Our favourite part of this home has to be the round chill-out room where a curved sofa sits in the sunshine of a towering glass atrium and a wet bar awaits for drinks by the fire. Picture frame windows in the dine-in kitchen keep that desert view coming and bedrooms are decked out in boho-chic with macrame wall art and raw wood furnishings. Find inner peace in the yoga room where a curved wall of windows lets the desert light stream in. When it comes to exploring the great outdoors, Joshua Tree National Park entrance is a twenty-minute drive away, and downtown Joshua Tree and Pioneertown are both twelve minutes away.  

Mountain Pose

Wild Rocks is one of those homes that always appears effortlessly chic. Designed by Oller & Pejic, it’s an architectural gem set against Yucca Valley’s rugged desert terrain. The sliding glass doors blur the lines between the inside and outside, allowing you to enjoy home-cooked meals on the terrace, gaze at the stars, and relax in the hot tub. We also loved the enormous record collection, which features some of the host Joann’s all-time favourite tunes. Found just a short drive from Joshua Tree National Park, there are plenty of exciting adventures waiting for you.

Wild Rocks

This home is clearly a labour of love, and it reflects a lot of the host's personality. There are spaces for meditation and yoga, both indoors and out, and the desert aesthetic has been perfectly captured in the design. A renovated mid-century home, it's minimalist and charming. Outside, you have a grill and a hot tub, which is a great spot for watching the stars move across the clear desert skies. All of that’s without even mentioning the location. You can walk into Joshua Tree Village, which has several excellent cafes and restaurants, and if you drive ten minutes in the other direction, you’ll reach the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park.


Mojave Haus

Stay in your very own country club on nine acres of land beneath a vast desert sky in Coyote Hole, Joshua Tree. With ceiling-to-floor windows to let natural light in, striking art adorning almost every wall and custom furniture pieces unlike anything else, this home is truly one to remember. Roll out of the luxurious beds and pull back the curtains to the stunning desert landscape stretching out as far as the eye can see, and spend a day seeing who can find the secret room first. And yes, there is a secret room hidden somewhere in this home.

With a range of outdoor facilities on the property for you to take full advantage of, you'll easily spend just as much time outdoors as you will indoors. You'll have professional courts, a putting green, a climbing structure and a saltwater swimming pool with an integrated spa all to yourself. Go for a float and rinse off in the outdoor shower, before letting the sun dry you off on one of the sun loungers, then break out the barbecue and grill up a storm.

There are miles of stunning hiking trails just footsteps from the property for those excited to explore, not to mention the town of Joshua Tree is mere minutes away, so you can pop into town and pick up anything you might need. At night, enjoy the famous star-filled skies of Joshua Tree while you gather around the fire pit and let the flames warm your bones.

The Line Between Heaven & Earth

Escapes to this Yucca Valley home are guaranteed to be unforgettable. With endless views of the Mojave Desert, guests can spend hours watching pink sunsets from the hot tub, dining alfresco against the serrated silhouette, picking out constellations from a sky full of stars and toasting marshmallows over the fire pit. Inside, designer furniture and poured concrete floors feel extra stylish, and the bedrooms with luxury mattresses, percale cotton bedding and original artwork demand long lie-ins. Put an album on the record player as made-from-scratch meals cook away in the up-to-the-minute kitchen, and when dinner’s demolished, clear the plates ready for an evening of board games. After practising yoga on the patio with the sunrise, mornings are to be spent exploring; pull on your hiking boots and make your way to the Joshua Tree National Park, a twenty-minute drive from the property. Stop off in Yucca Valley’s Old Town on your way back for a bite to eat and a well-earned, ice-cold drink.

Desert Willow

A group of friends seeking a little bit of magic will fall in love with this whimsical home, set in five acres of desert land. It's a truly unique setup, compromised of the main cabin, a yurt, three trailers and a safari tent – this is guaranteed to be a glamping experience you'll never forget. Ease yourself into the rugged landscape with lunch under the linen canopy, before taking an alfresco bath as you wash away your stresses in perfect peace. On piercing-cold desert nights, cosy up around the crackling fire pit to toast marshmallows and tell stories, or hunker down under the boho-chic blankets in your trailer. The sunrises and sunsets here are spectacular but don't miss the opportunity to do some stargazing away from the bright city lights too. Joshua Tree National Park and Yucca Valley are less than a twenty-minute drive away for those looking for adventure, but we don't blame you if you never want to leave this desert sanctuary. 

Eye of the Desert

Joshua Tree, with its remarkable cragged landscapes and wide-open spaces, is bound to inspire the artist in you. This home provides all the tools you need to set that creativity free – art supplies, a studio space, a blackboard wall for brainstorming and an art rail on which to hang your work. The home itself was designed to inform and inspire, from the photography books lining the walls to the remarkable sculptural “nest” chair in the yard. If your creative passions are more culinary, the dual-sink kitchen has plenty of counter space on which to create gourmet meals, and there's a barbecue outside for grilling skewers. After dinner, watch the stars rise from the luxurious hot tub before huddling around the fire pit with a mug of mulled wine.
