The Beacon has everything you could ask for in a holiday retreat. The views alone are stunning, but that’s really only the start – we could also talk about the lawn, the kitchen, or the designer furniture. It’s a bit behind Malibu proper, so while you are isolated, that’s kind of the point. Having to drive to the shops is a small price to pay (particularly in a city like LA) for the splendid calm that is on offer here.

Fitted with antiques and family relics, not everyone will appreciate the dated decor, but we won't hold that against an otherwise winning home. Our favourite parts? The living room with its floor-to-ceiling glass doors and the home cinema and bar are great for entertaining as well. Location-wise, well that’s excellent too – it’s just steps away from Point Dume Village and this home has access to Riviera III, a private surf break and beach.

Step inside this Point Dume estate and you’ll be welcomed by stunning ocean views, elegant rooms and all the luxurious essentials you could need for a magical coastal retreat. There’s a peaceful sun deck with a pool, a spa and a fire-pit for magical evenings under the stars. The garden also features a putting green for family fun and there’s a movie theatre as well as a gym for exercise enthusiasts. The bedrooms set the tone for total relaxation, while the main bedroom is a special highlight with a private ocean-view terrace and spa-like en-suite. And when it comes to explorations further afield, it’s just a short drive to the beach and nearest amenities.
