We are really smitten with this stunning beach-front home. Charming coastal interiors, a massive kitchen, twenty-foot high ceilings, a hot tub, ocean views galore – it’s hard to know where to stop. This is an ideal home for a large group of friends or family, looking to spend quality time with one another in a peaceful location. You’ll enjoy direct access to Broad Beach via an electric drawbridge, while the home’s generous outdoor areas include a swimming pool and Jacuzzi, as well as a range of private and shared balconies with unparalleled views. The inside is no less impressive, with huge glass walls and beautiful design – there’s even a private cinema room here. Your host has undoubtedly taken advantage of the amount of wall space by showing off an impressive and varied art collection, which gives the home a sense of playfulness – it almost seems a shame that guests will be spending so much time outside.

But the star of the show has to be the pool and gardens. With 360-degree mountain vistas, soaring palm trees, lush lawns, and hummingbirds busy going about their day, there is no better place to be. Start the day with a few lengths in the pool and soak in the spa, before settling down on one of the many sun decks to catch some rays. 

When it’s time to rustle up a meal, fire up the barbecue in the impressive outdoor dining area, while friends gather around the fire pit. Or let a private chef take over in the gourmet kitchen, complete with a wine fridge and built-in coffee maker to cover off all the essentials. And should you be tempted to stray from this desert retreat, you’ll find downtown Palm Springs a mere fifteen minutes drive away. Though why you’d ever want to leave is anyone’s guess.

Go to bed after watching the spectacular sunset over the Pacific and wake up to the sound of the crashing waves at this jaw-dropping beachfront home in the surfside city of San Clemente. 

Contemporary coastal cool is the order of the day, with plenty of light wood, fresh blue furnishings and pristine white walls, all accentuated by the sunlight that pours in 342 days a year through large windows and retractable glass doors that look out over the ocean.

There's plenty of space for all the family, with large open living spaces, a stunning modern kitchen with eye-catching quartz worktops, a dedicated games room with a billiards table, plus a lovely office to make the idea of working while on holiday a little more palatable. 

Sleeping arrangements are taken care of across five spacious bedrooms. A large loft room packed with games and a console allows you to leave the kids to it as you enjoy a glass of something cold out on the covered terrace, or lay out on a lounger on the promontory pointing out to sea.

If the call of the ocean proves too much, you won't have to walk far to access Lost Winds beach below. With consistent surf, volleyball courts, and the opportunity to jog or cycle along the 2.6-mile beach trail, there's plenty on offer here. However, seasoned surfers might want to check out nearby breaks including Trestles, T Street and San Onofre. Lowers (at Trestles beach) is the best of the bunch and the home of high performance surfing. Sometimes it's best just to sit back and marvel at the pros.

After a day of adrenaline-pumping activity, cooking may well be the last thing on your mind. Handily, San Clemente is home to a wide array of restaurants serving everything from American comfort food, farm-to-table fare and creative Mexican classics washed down with a mescal.

Wild Rocks is one of those homes that always appears effortlessly chic. Designed by Oller & Pejic, it’s an architectural gem set against Yucca Valley’s rugged desert terrain. We also loved the enormous record collection, which features some of the host Joann’s all-time favourite tunes. Found just a short drive from Joshua Tree National Park, there are plenty of exciting adventures waiting for you.

Full of personalised little touches and less than ten minutes from downtown Santa Barbara, this modern coastal cottage is an Instagrammer's dream. From the outside, it takes inspiration from industrial-style shipping containers, while inside the home's muted palette and minimalist design induces a peaceful serenity. A couple or solo traveller will find it delivers a faultless experience – from the brand-new, bespoke kitchen to an always-perfect temperature, thanks to the air conditioning. Although when the weather is mild, we recommend opening the French doors and allowing indoor and outdoor spaces to become one.
