Pulling up at this home is pure Palm Springs. First impressions count, and this place hits it out of the park on that count. It's postcard perfection from the perfectly manicured lawns to the flawless facade of the low-slung single storey home with those all-important giant palms protruding from the backyard. 

On entering the house, the first thing that strikes you is the sense of space. At over 3,000 square feet, it's far from small. However, the fourteen-foot high ceilings add another dimension entirely. The grand entryway leads you through to the sociable open living area with an abundance of comfy seating – perfect for sitting back and bingeing your favourite Netflix shows. We don't usually delve into the minutiae of amenities here, but at 80", the TV is surely worth a mention – it's huge! 

The breakfast bar cordons off the kitchen while still maintaining a link to the rest of the space, and there's an opulent dining room with striped wallpaper, bold artwork and a chandelier hanging from the gold ceiling. The bedrooms are large and inviting, with en-suite bathrooms and garden views. And what a garden! There's barely a blade of grass out of place out here. The inviting pool area, along with the hot tub is the perfect spot to top up that tan, while hedge borders maintain privacy. 

If you can tear yourself away, you're less than a ten-minute drive from Downtown Palm Springs with its bougie boutiques and farm-to-fork restaurants. Closer to home, you're within a nine-iron hit of a few golf courses, as well as some challenging hiking trails.

Inside, the stone walls and circular wooden ceiling ooze boho chic. The four-poster bed, tucked into one side, provides a luxurious sleeping nook and candles in the stone fireplace add a touch of romance. The cottage-style kitchen is compact but has everything you could need. Besides, there's a barbecue and dining area on the patio for meals under the desert stars. The area is said to be a ‘wind free zone’, with great hiking and mountain bike trails on the doorstep, and Palm Springs is just a short drive away.

The Rock House

This house is more than a home – it’s an experience to be treasured. Nestled in the coveted Araby neighbourhood, it oozes prestige and elegance. With floor-to-ceiling windows the natural light pours in, breaking down the barrier to nature. As you cook breakfast in the state-of-the-art kitchen, you can get lost in the incredible mountain views – just try not to burn the bacon. 

Spending the day in the backyard is a vacation in itself. Sink into the hot tub for a little relaxation before a refreshing dip in the private pool. At night, the contemporary lighting sets a wonderful ambience. We love the firepit in particular – the most breathtaking spot for a drink at sunset. 

With the sun peeking through your drapes in the morning, you’ll be enticed out onto the terrace to enjoy your coffee, although given that you’re just minutes away from South Palm Springs, you may choose the barista option at the local cafe. While exploring, stop at the Moorten Botanical Garden for a lovely day out. Spacious and luxurious in style, with comfort and convenience at its core, it’s easy to see why surrounding houses were once home to famous Hollywood celebrities. But the star of the show has to be the pool and gardens. With 360-degree mountain vistas, soaring palm trees, lush lawns, and hummingbirds busy going about their day, there is no better place to be. Start the day with a few lengths in the pool and soak in the spa, before settling down on one of the many sun decks to catch some rays. 

When it’s time to rustle up a meal, fire up the barbecue in the impressive outdoor dining area, while friends gather around the fire pit. Or let a private chef take over in the gourmet kitchen, complete with a wine fridge and built-in coffee maker to cover off all the essentials. And should you be tempted to stray from this desert retreat, you’ll find downtown Palm Springs a mere fifteen minutes drive away. Though why you’d ever want to leave is anyone’s guess.

Afterwards, while away your days soaking up the sun by the saltwater pool, setting up a table football tournament in the games room and tucking into tantalising home-cooked meals beneath the pergola.

Guests in the 2nd bedroom sleep in a queen bed and enjoy equally beautiful decor and their own flat-screen TV. The 3rd bedroom located across the hall also has a queen. Both guest bedrooms have use of the guest bath with tub/shower combo and double sinks.

From kitsch gold taps in the bathroom to the African nick-nacks adorning every surface in the living room, its style is best described as “more is more”. Every care has been taken to preserve this home in its original 1950s glamour, when its owner ran the famed Chi Chi Lounge, frequented by celebrity clientele who’d pop over to his house for Sunday brunch. You can easily imagine Frank Sinatra propped up at the private bar in the lounge, or sipping a cocktail by the kidney-shaped pool outside.
