We were wowed by the open living area, designed with socialising in mind and with great views of the backyard. Out in the garden, reclining by the shimmering turquoise pool is the perfect way to unwind, but if you need to take your relaxing to the next level, there’s also a hot tub to bubble the night away in. Dine alfresco under the endless desert sky, then end the evening around the flickering fire pit with a glass of something strong as the sun sets behind the mountains.

With the size of the space, you'll easily be able to find space to yourself here – there's even a meditation room. There's also plenty of space to come together, though – you'll find enough space for everyone in the jacuzzi, and alfresco dining is a breeze thanks to the barbecue. When it's time to explore, you're just a short drive from mountains and desert here, and just up the road from downtown Palm Springs.

Packed with character, this 1940s home could have been ripped straight from a magazine spread. The interior is picture-perfect, with bohemian chic and Southern California style. The high ceilings, wood beams and white-painted walls in the living space give it a light and fresh feel. There are entertaining touches, from the all-in-one 'spool' (spa and pool) to the outdoor kitchen and the indoor swing seat. Close to the Uptown Design District, driving here is optional as galleries, boutiques and restaurants are within walking distance. If you don't want to cook yourself there's also the option to organise a private chef.

Stepping inside this Palm Springs home, we immediately were transported to the town's heyday, where mid-century movie stars flocked to the area for film premieres and sun-soaked getaways. This feels like a 1970s party pad, from the grassy outdoors and lengthy swimming pool, to the living room's stone fireplace. But it feels current too, thanks to colourful modern art, polished concrete floors, and a wet bar. Pops of colour liven up the clean, white bedrooms, and glorious floor-to-ceiling glass lets tonnes of sunlight flood this chic villa. Downtown Palm Springs is minutes away, with art museums, an eclectic dining scene, and vivacious gardens. No need to leave your home though as the grounds come with mountain views that, in our opinion, are some of the best in the area. Light the firepit to keep things warm when the sun goes down, a dream to watch the stars – or toast s'mores – under.



Orange Dusk

Ever wondered what it'd be like to party with Elvis? Well, you might not be able to actually party with him, but you'll get pretty close to it in this home. The founder of 20th Century Fox, Daryl Zanuck, was once the proud owner of this mid-century, palm tree-lined estate in Palm Springs. And of the many A-listers that visited, Elvis was one of them!

In this historic and glamorous neighbourhood of Old Las Palmas, you're rubbing shoulders with the homes of movie stars past and present. The feeling of Hollywood's Golden Age is unmissable, and you'll certainly feel the glamour in this home. Lush gardens, a glittering pool, and a stone waterfall hot tub are the perfect welcome to this Palm Springs oasis. Spend lazy days lounging by the pool, sipping on a cocktail, surrounded by flourishing gardens. When dinnertime rolls around, tuck in to barbecue dinners around the bistro table. If you feel up for an adventure, downtown Palm Springs is just a twenty-minute walk away, and there are plenty of nature trails and hiking spots close by, too.

Flamingo-pink and turquoise are the themes of this renovated mid-century bungalow in Palm Springs. The exterior is a dusky peach while bright pink parasols shade the line of loungers by the turquoise swimming pool. Choose between cooling laps in the pool or simply sitting in the integrated jetted Jacuzzi. As the sunset silhouettes the surrounding palm trees against a glowing sky, it’s time to get the fire pit going on the terrace. There’s also a barbecue out here and plenty of room for the group to dine.

In typical Palm Springs style, floor-to-ceiling glass doors lead from the living area to the terrace, blurring the line between indoors and outdoors. Plush velvet armchairs and a sofa are a nod to the 1960s and the living, dining room and kitchen are open-plan and sociable. We love the wicker chairs facing the terrace that feel as though you’re in a solarium. The added bonus is a garage converted into a separate games room so the kids can have their own space.

For all the restaurants, bakeries, cafes and shops of Downtown Palm Springs, it’s just a five-minute drive (or twenty-minute walk) to Palm Canyon Drive. You’re in the hip Movie Colony neighbourhood here where the mid-century homes have seen the likes of Frank Sinatra stay.

Whip up dishes in the well-equipped kitchen for feasts with friends, to be devoured inside or out. We’re particularly keen on the alfresco dining area, complete with a grill, bar and a fire pit. 

Outside, the private heated swimming pool is where we’d spend most of our time. Dry off in the sun on a lounger, and take in the lovely garden space. Greenery provides privacy, so you can revel in the mountain views in peace. When the sun has set, slip back into the pool for a moonlit swim, or sip Champagne in the spa. 


Cherry Kiss

Formerly owned by Jeannette Edris Rockefellar, this home is set in the desirable neighbourhood of Palm Springs and actually served as the backdrop for a movie based on the wealthy. It’s easy to see why you’d feel like you’re living the Hollywood life here, especially given the sheer scale of each room. The piano and pool table also add to the luxury this home has to offer, but it’s not all gloss. The firepit near the pool and the fireplace in the lounge leans itself more to comfort, which makes for an interesting blend of sophisticated cosiness. 

With so many things to do on site, it might be difficult to leave, but even just strolling the calm roads of Old Las Palmas feels special, especially when you might end up spotting a celebrity. Constantly confronted with scenic mountain views, this home and its surrounding area is an oasis. Relax and reconnect in the private saltwater pool before dining alfresco.

The interior of the home boasts traditional wooden beams, an impressive fireplace and typical terracotta floors. But it’s the backyard that provides the real wow-factor here. The sparkling blue pool and fire pit, for example, are both lined with detailed Talavera tiles, adding magic to an already magical place. After all, the San Jacinto Mountain Range provides guests with a most striking backdrop and is sure to give you that special vacation feeling. Splash around in the pool, serve your fellow travellers cocktails at the outdoor bar and sample all of Palm Spring’s fabulous restaurants. When night falls, we recommend huddling around the fire pit and watching the sun set over the jagged mountains. It’s a seriously wonderful experience and a great way to wind down.

Casa de Montaña

This white-and-turquoise time capsule in Palm Springs' Racquet Club Estates neighbourhood is a glamorous example of breezy mid-century modernist design. Masterminded by architect William Krisel (the man who kickstarted the trend for Palm Springs' contemporary glass-dominated homes in the 1960s) it features teal chairs, a white-bricked fireplace and flat-screen portrait TV set to display modern art in the light, bright living room. The moss-green splashback and white cabinets in the kitchen are delightfully retro, but the modern oven, double fridge and coffee-maker are state-of-the-art. The bedrooms all have sliding glass doors that lead out to the patio, letting in an abundance of that joyful Californian sunshine. Outside you'll find the pièce de résistance – the private pool and bubbling hot tub. Both are heated, perfect for when the desert chill creeps in. There's also a firepit to keep things cosy, and a covered outdoor dining area with a gas barbecue where you can watch stars twinkle over the mountains at dusk. If you still need a little extra help unwinding, your host can also arrange for a poolside massage. Bliss.

This magnificent mid-century home is pure Palm Springs perfection.
