We love the raised garden beds full of seasonal vegetables and herbs – perfect for using in your cooking. With its multiple terraces and separate one bedroom casita, this home is just the ticket for a group of friends or multi-generational family wanting their own space. If you fancy venturing out, Downtown Sonoma is around a 5-minute drive away, but we really wouldn't blame you if you didn't want to step a foot away from this truly magical place.

With its dark wooden frames and surrounding woodland, this home makes for a cosy stay despite its large size. Spread across a few floors, this impressive and innovative spot is somewhere between a townhouse and a lodge. It is just outside of the city centre of Truckee, surrounded by parkland and a river that keeps you close to nature.

In winter, watch snow grace the terrain and head to one of the ski resorts surrounding Lake Tahoe. The lake itself is a family paradise in the summer months when you can kayak and swim in it.

Back home, explore the nooks and crannies on each floor before curling up with a book by the living room fireplace. Lie on the plump sofas and make use of the large bathtubs to unwind after a day of skiing. The kitchen is modern and stylish, while the terrace is the perfect spot for lunch.

As soon as you arrive, you’ll be taken by the stunning vineyard views – this really is a pretty setting. The home has been designed in the style of an Italian villa, with wooden floors and stylish decor. It’s wonderfully comfortable too – after a long day, you can curl up in front of the fireplace to sip tea and enjoy a moment of tranquillity. The kitchen is wonderfully well stocked with utensils so you can whip up feasts with no trouble at all – or, easier still, book a private chef to wow your guests. 

The porch is a strong contender for our favourite spot. Take a seat in a rocking chair as the sun is sinking in the sky, and sip a glass of the wine you most enjoyed that day. You’ll feel a million miles from the hustle and bustle. Continue to unwind by slipping into the hot tub. After one last glass of wine and a few marshmallows toasted over the fire pit, you’ll be ready to sink into a comfortable bed for an excellent night’s sleep. We love it here.

Your days will be filled with visits to nearby wineries – the house is close to Dry Creek and Alexander Valley – and journeys into Healdsburg. It takes just eight minutes to reach downtown, where you can shop, dine out and explore. 

This Wine Country retreat really is delightful. A large deck is perfect for entertaining – open up a few bottles from the nearby vineyards and conduct your own tasting session as you take in the view of the property. The garden boasts corn hole and bocce ball, as well as a cosy seating area around a fire pit – there’s something for everyone, whether you plan on spending your visit curled up with a book or want a livelier break. 

Inside, there’s plenty of room for everyone to gather together. The main house and guesthouse both boast excellent kitchens, so you can prepare veritable feasts. Stay at the table long after the plates have been cleared – this is what holidays are all about. The living spaces are oh-so-comfortable, and you’re all but guaranteed an excellent night’s sleep in the sumptuous bedrooms. This home has everything you might need for a break – you’re sure to want to return.

The first bedroom has a king-size bed, while bedroom two is made up of a queen-size bunk bed. More importantly, guests have easy access to the lake so make sure to pack your swimsuits and any floating devices. Wander around the edge of the lake and you'll come across charming cafes, restaurants and shops. We would, however, still recommend having a car in order to explore all this area has to offer.
