Located in the town of Kensington amid the Berkeley Hills, this home provides a great base for a family looking to explore California’s coast. It’s a lived-in family home and some of the rooms may appear a little messy, but it has plenty to keep you entertained. There are lots of books and games here for the kids and when it’s the right season, you can pick fruit and vegetables in the front garden. Kensington’s small centre has a few shops and café, but if you’re looking for more hustle and bustle you can catch the commuter bus to vibrant San Francisco. 

A Song For You

If you love wine, this award-winning home is what dreams are made of. Located down an idyllic, oak tree-lined country road and nestled amongst the vines of a working vineyard in Sonoma, this place is utter bliss. You can see the beautiful vineyards even when sitting inside, from the large picture window in the living room. The vista is a sight to behold when the sun rises, flooding the modern lounge with light. The kitchen with its Viking gourmet range is perfect for entertaining, or you can grill dinner on the barbecue and enjoy a meal at the salvaged wood farm table. We love the raised garden beds full of seasonal vegetables and herbs – perfect for using in your cooking. With its multiple terraces and separate one bedroom casita, this home is just the ticket for a group of friends or multi-generational family wanting their own space. If you fancy venturing out, Downtown Sonoma is around a 5-minute drive away, but we really wouldn't blame you if you didn't want to step a foot away from this truly magical place. 

Amidst The Vines

Wonderfully positioned to make the most of this coastal area – this home is a nine-minute walk from Pacifica State Beach. The jagged coastline caters to a whole range of visitors, from surfers who like to ride the bay's impressive waves to photographers keen on catching the beautiful light. Or go for a hike on Shelter Cove Beach, a six-minute stroll away. There's an array of surf shops and some fantastic local eateries on your doorstep too. For a more action-packed day trip, San Francisco and all it has to offer is just a twenty-five-minute drive from this home. Chic, coastal-inspired interiors, polished concrete floors, and vast windows make it a delight to stay here. We love the vistas over Pedro Point from the living room and balcony – enjoy a glass of Californian rosé wine while enjoying the views. Later whip up a Clam Chowder in the kitchen before relaxing on the comfy sofa – this place is all about unwinding.

Willow Cove

Homes don't come much more in tune with nature than this one. Situated just below South Lake Tahoe, you'll feel truly immersed in the natural environment. From waking up to views of beautiful pine trees and the peaceful sounds of birds chirping to feeling like you're staying in a luxurious treehouse fortress no matter what room you're in.

Located in the quiet area of Meyers, just outside of Echo Lake, in the summer months you’ll be spoilt for choice with hiking trails and swimming opportunities in the lakes (Echo Lake is a sixteen-minute drive, while Lake Tahoe is twenty-four minutes away). In winter, you can make the most of backcountry skiing and snowboarding before retiring home to heat up in front of the roaring fire with a hot chocolate. Guests lucky enough to occupy the master bedroom can even treat themselves to a relaxing soak in the jetted tub!

Soaring Skies

With the Facebook HQ your neighbour, this stylish apartment is ideal for any business trip to Fair Oaks. It’s the perfect mix of business and downtime, with Bedwell Bayfront Park just across the road for a morning jog or leisurely stroll, and plenty of trendy eateries in the area. Plus, it’s just a half-hour drive into the heart of San Francisco, just up the bay.

There’s plenty within the building to fill your downtime. Swim laps in the huge outdoor swimming pool, or laze on a lounger in the sun. There’s a barbecue area dappled with stringed lights and fire pits in the outdoor lounges if you’re feeling social. Inside the apartment block, you’ve got a full gym with its own yoga studio, cafés and myriad plush lounges. Should you crave some privacy, the apartment is kitted out for relaxation in the open-plan living area, and convenient for working remotely with a laptop-friendly desk. The kitchen is particularly spacious and well-equipped with a big breakfast bar for busy mornings.

Nestled on a five-acre estate, this custom-built home received the Outdoor Living Award from Tahoe Quarterly Magazine – and we can see why. As you arrive at the property, take a moment to breathe in the fresh pine-scented air while taking in the breathtaking views over the abundance of nature. 

With two levels of outdoor living areas, you can lap up the views from different angles without leaving the great outdoors. Enjoy blissful homemade meals and barbecues on the terrace featuring an alfresco dining area before watching the sunset from the hot tub. You'll find further entertainment amenities on the second terrace, including a ping pong table and enough space to practice yoga at sunrise. 

In the backyard, warm up around the fire pit as night falls, and make the most of the solid stone loungers during the daytime of the warmer months spent here. There's just as much leisure space inside as outside; as in the open plan living area and kitchen, stretch out wherever you find comfy amidst the cosy and contemporary interiors with a glass of California wine in hand. We bet the floor-to-ceiling fireplace will keep you feeling warm and fuzzy after a day of discovering the Truckee and Lake Tahoe area. 

Whether you're staying in summer or winter, the area offers outdoor activities galore. From hiking and biking in the pine forests to sought-after ski resorts such as Northstar, Squaw, Alpine Meadows, and Sugar Bowl, located just a fifteen-minute drive away, you won't be stuck for things to do here. And for more relaxed days beyond the amenities of the home, why not head into downtown Truckee where you'll discover the array of coffee shops, restaurants and wine bars on offer?

While in the thick of San-Fran’s hipster location, the outdoor deck benefits from a quiet and private neighbourhood, perfect for sitting and watching the world go by – with comfy rattan sofas, white Adirondack chairs and a barbecue grill. For the interior, think hardwood floors, sleek furnishings, an open-hearth fireplace, along with a blend of whites, greys, and light wood that creates a homely yet trendy living space. Bathed in natural light coming in through the front windows, the home is bright and open so it’s a great spot for unwinding, playing games and reliving the best part of the day. Close enough for a quick tennis or football match, the surrounding Mission playground is a friendly area for the whole family. With the magic of the sea, sun, and stars surrounding you at Half Moon Bay, this incredible home is the perfect weekend retreat for a family, only twenty minutes away from San Fransisco. Charge the Tesla at the EV charging station and then explore the trails of the National Forest backing the house or pack your beach bag and stop by the Pacific Ocean, a fifteen-minute stroll away. Sip on sundowners whilst soaking in the hot tub and watch the sunset over the ocean. As the stars speckle the sky, light the fire pit to keep the night going. Kids will be thrilled with the tree-house style bunk beds, a playroom packed with laser tag and a mountain of lego, the big screen projector in the den and the virtual reality set-up. Outside, this place has the wood-tiled cladding and white bannisters of a traditional Bay Area home, but the curved wall of windows in the double-height living room creates a modern feel. A chef’s kitchen comes equipped with more than you need for self-catering – there’s a chef’s torch for those who fancy whipping up a creme brulee – and a collection of spices, oils and condiments are yours to use. Perched on a private ridge, we invite you to take a lungful of some of the purest air in mainland USA and step inside this charming single-storey home, which enjoys spectacular views over its 14-acre vineyard and the pristine waters of Clear Lake.

Everything about this elegantly designed building aims to accentuate the natural beauty on the doorstep. A wall of clear glass panes slides back to reveal a front-row set of six Adirondack seats where you can sit and take in the vista. This expansive wooden deck also includes an outdoor dining table and is bookended by an inviting infinity pool at one end and a Jacuzzi at the other – perfect for cooling daytime dips or sundowner soaks.

The effortless flow between the exterior and interior continues throughout the home, with a vast multipurpose space forming the nucleus around which all things entertainment, socialisation and food-related rotate. We can easily imagine an early start for a challenging hike along the trails that crisscross the nearby countryside, or a paddleboarding session out on the water, before returning home for a relaxing day by the pool with a glass of cab sav in hand, only getting up to top up your glass and grab snacks the kitchen.

It’s worth noting there is no free parking here, but you will find great public transport links – making it easy to get across the city. Inside, there’s a fireplace and a projector in the living room, while the second bedroom comes with a desk – making this an ideal spot for remote workers.

In the heart of California's famous wine country, this home makes an excellent first impression. It's hard not to be captivated by the mountain views, and you'll be able to enjoy them from the expansive patio, private pool, and hot tub. There's even a bocce ball court to keep things competitive. Inside, the design is equal parts cosy and contemporary. Beamed ceilings and roaring fireplaces add a rustic touch, but amenities-wise, it's got all the mod-cons – an office for remote working, a Peloton bike for workouts, and a soaker bath for unwinding. Factor in the location close to Napa, Sonoma, and the region's many vineyards, and you'll see why it caught our eye.
