Located a short walk away from the beach, we thought Saltbush would be a great base for a family or a group of friends looking for a seaside escape. The decor has clean, simple, beachy vibe – it isn’t trying to be wildly innovative or elaborate, but it ties in well with the location, and the space feels comfortable and relaxing. Most importantly, the nearby beach is a private one accessible only to local residents, so you’re guaranteed peace and quiet – a rarity for the Hamptons!

Saltbush

Recently-Renovated Montauk Beach Cottage, Open-Concept Living Area, Gourmet Island Kitchen, Near Downtown Montauk Bars and Restaurants. This authentic, recently-refinished Montauk beach cottage offers modern and serene Hamptons living. Natural light pours through the windows surrounding the airy interior and illuminates the clean, crisp white walls. The island kitchen features high-end Viking stainless steel appliances, including the professional-grade stove and oven, to delight novice and seasoned cooks. Wood countertops and the island provide ample pace to whip up a big brunch. Hidden behind barn doors in the kitchen are the washer and dryer, and additional storage space. Eat and sip coffee brewed at home at the large dining table with four chairs and wraparound bench seating. Play relaxing music through the Bluetooth audio system equipped throughout the house. The dining area leads to the bright living room with a flat-screen TV.

Modern Beach Retreat

Perched on a hilltop in New York's Montauk, this modern villa enjoys a private pool and an expansive garden and terrace. There's space to dine under the sun and enjoy a family barbecue, and well-behaved pets are welcome to join you for an additional fee. Bikes and beach equipment are provided here, and we think you'll need a car for day trips to Shadmoor Estate Park Beach and Montauk Lighthouse. To ensure your stay is one to remember, your host can arrange an array of extra services from private chefs to massages.

Paradise Cottage

As one of the first high-end net-zero houses in the area, this dreamy Mauntauk home is sustainable, ideally located and looks pretty good, too. Modern and bright, it has plenty of space for a big group but leads out onto a sweeping garden, just in case you need a little extra. Kids will love the swimming pool and manicured lawn, while adults will likely appreciate the hot tub more. The deck is perfect for alfresco dining and barbecues, and with the cover of the towering trees, the space feels tranquil and private. You also have direct access to the private Hither Hills Beach, seven minutes away, in case you thought it couldn't get any better.

Number Nineteen

Sitting on the banks of Lake Montauk, this home can't be accused of not making the most of this prime position. The main living space faces the water and has huge windows from which to admire the peaceful panorama. 

If you want to feel the fresh air on your face as you gaze out, there's also a terrace complete with seating and a barbecue grill. Add to that a lakeside lawn with children's play equipment, and there's no shortage of spots from which to make the most of the scenic location.

Back inside, the style is certainly contemporary, thanks to the stark white walls, wooden floors and sleek kitchen complete with chic breakfast bar seating. By contrast, the wood-burning fireplace is a charmingly rustic touch.

In the local area, there's way more than the body of water opposite. Ditch Plains Beach takes four minutes to reach in the car, while Montauk Point Lighthouse Museum on the far end of Long Island is a nine-minute drive away.


Star of the Show

This stunning home on the banks of Lake Montauk is the perfect escape. With a private beach at the end of the garden, you won't need to travel far to feel the sand between your toes. You'll love relaxing in the Adirondack chairs, splashing in the lake or trying your hand at paddle boarding. Watching the sunset each evening is a must, and you'll have a front-row seat as the sun dips below the water. Inside is bright and welcoming, thanks to the open layout and whitewashed colour scheme. The sliding doors and windows show off the lakefront views, so even if you're lounging on the couch or preparing dinner in the glossy kitchen, you're not missing out. We also love the master suite, which looks towards the lake and has a private sitting area ideal for unwinding. A quaint cafe and beachside restaurant are a quick ten-minute walk, or hop in the car for a short drive to the other side of the lake where you'll find even more dining options.

Meet Me In Montauk

Savour fabulous ocean views from every room at this idyllic home on one of Montauk's white-sand beaches. The beautiful open-concept living, dining, and kitchen space will easily accommodate your every need. The vaulted ceilings, large windows, whitewashed walls and natural-toned furnishings all combine to create a fresh and bright room, perfect for entertaining. Not that you'll want to spend much time indoors with the multiple terraces on offer here, affording Instagram-ready vistas. Situated within the Gurneys Montauk Resort, you'll have access to the Beach Club and a range of exceptional dining and social venues. Or indulge yourself at the luxury Seawater Spa with its world-famous indoor, ocean-fed seawater pool, with panoramic views of the Atlantic. If you're feeling energetic, a 24-hour gym offers complimentary fitness classes and private trainers.

Coral Skies

This special spot in the Hither Hills is moments from the shore, a short drive from the Hither Woods Preserve and a few minutes drive from all Montauk's shops and restaurants. With access to a private beach just a few moments away and an easy fifteen-minute drive to East Hampton, locations don't get much better than this.

A fabulous setting, surrounded by greenery but a walk from the sand, make this place feel tucked away and private. Its gardens are beautiful, with a spacious deck just ready for you to pull up a chair and eat alfresco. And the home's interior matches – with more than enough character and style. Bright and beautifully put together, the living room features numerous tall windows and patio doors, along with a roof lantern high up in its beamed ceiling – a nod, perhaps, to nearby Montauk Lighthouse. 

And it's rare for us to say it but probably our favourite room here is the kitchen, just a few steps down from the living room and with enough kit to keep even a professional chef happy. Its vaulted ceiling and sliding doors to the deck make it an inviting place, where all the gang will want to hang out over breakfast and dinner.

With plenty of space for a large family or a group of friends, the bedrooms are all smart and comfortable, with cream-coloured wood-clad walls, vaulted ceilings and vintage art that tells the story of this unique coastal area. On warm summer days, spend your time on the beach before coming home and lighting the grill for a barbecue on the deck. The last ones up might even want to sit around the fire pit and gaze at the stars.  

This Much I Know

For the ultimate Montauk escape with style and character in abundance, this fisherman's cottage has you covered. Flamingo-pink shutters and the front door set the scene for a stay that's thoughtfully stylish, charming and quirky – a blend of boho and rustic that's sophisticated and easy to love. The white-beamed ceiling, pink accents and mix of raw wood and design pieces makes for a look you'll want to replicate in your own home. This cottage just feels very at home in this neighbourhood, with a colourful living room drenched in natural light and a surf-shack motif in the bedroom, complete with surfboards and dreamcatchers adorning the walls. If the personal touches didn't already make this home, the location definitely does – you're a five-minute walk from popular eateries and Downtown Montauk, not to mention Fort Pond, the train station and nearby beach.

Long Story Short

Sitting right on the shores of Lake Montauk, this waterfront home is perfect for those looking for a calm, comfortable base with plenty in the way of fun and activities. Featuring a large deck with unobstructed views of the lake and a vast lawn perfect for garden games, it’s a great place for families to spend time together. There's plenty of room inside the single-level home too, both in the open-plan living room with its scenic windows and across the four bedrooms, two of which have deck access. For days at the beach, your host provides deck chairs, a paddleboard and beach games, and nearby Montauk County Park offers ample opportunities for camping, fishing, hiking and canoeing.


Miss Montauk 

Travelling east along the Long Island Peninsula, you’ll pass the affluent suburbs of The Hamptons, the state’s most gorgeous coastlines, and tons of quirky museums and galleries en route. But after witnessing everything this land has to offer, all you really need is right at the tip. Montauk’s intriguing history of fishing, lakes, nature, and the oldest lighthouse in the state makes for a charming town – with your home sitting just a ten-minute drive from its maritime beacon.

When you arrive at your perfectly landscaped, private grounds (nearly an acre in size), you’ll feel immediately ready to relax and recline. Enter the home via a huge wooden decking, where a fire pit, barbecue, and rustic seating awaits. We imagine you’re already pining to get back out here for grilled, local fish and a glass of pinot grigio, but first take a look at the interiors.

Understated yet stylish, the vast living space has high, sloped ceilings which create an airy feel. While there’s a cosy, wood-burning fireplace for chilly nights, the old-fashioned wooden ceiling fan is here to help on hot afternoons. With wicker and soft furnishings throughout, you’ll feel less like a guest here and more like part of the family.

Shining Light

Atop a hill, this sprawling Hamptons home boasts panoramic views of Montauk’s famous coastline. This home may be great for socialising, but it’s just as nice for quiet moments alone. Take a relaxing soak in the stand alone tub in the bathroom, or just sit out on the terrace with a cup of tea, watching the waves crash on the shoreline.
