This apartment is ideally suited to those looking to drop their bags and head out from the get-go. Its major draw is the fabulous location, placing you in the thick of NYC. Just a short walk away you'll reach the iconic Flatiron Building, the Empire State Building, and Union Square – though this does mean that some noise should be expected. Inside, it's surprisingly spacious for a studio flat, with a kitchen and dining area tucked neatly around the corner. There's a sofa bed for flexible sleeping, but we only recommend this for younger children.

Located in Midtown, just three blocks away from the Empire State Building, this studio style apartment may not win any design prizes, but would make a perfectly pleasant base for guests wanting to stay in this part of town. The main room is lovely and light, and we particularly like the old wood floors too.

This apartment has a great address near desirable Chelsea. You're not far from Madison Avenue, perfect for a spot of designer clothes shopping. Other nearby attractions include the High Line and the iconic Flatiron Building. However, you don't have to go anywhere for vistas over the district, as this apartment has a shared landscaped roof deck with views across the city. Inside there's a nicely-sized kitchen for when you want to entertain and a desk in the main bedroom for catching up on work. Seeing as this is 'the city that never sleeps', though, expect to hear some noise during your stay.

There are two things in this loft apartment in the Gramercy Park neighbourhood that you might not typically expect to see. The first is a baby grand piano (how did they get it up to the top storey is what we want to know), the second is the resident cat called Edith. Previous guests will attest to the fact that her presence is completely stress-free and even adds to the cosy factor when you're lounging about. This home has obviously been designed by somebody with an artistic outlook, as the walls are covered in prints and the shelves are jam-packed with books. Although we're guessing you didn't come to The Big Apple to just read. Go out the front door and you're on Park Avenue, right in the middle of Manhattan. Walk twenty minutes to your right and you'll reach the Chrysler Building, Ten minutes in the other direction will get you to the farmers' market at Union Square.

We particularly love this historic townhouse's location, slap bang in the middle of chic Manhattan. Marvel at the Empire State Building or catch a game at Madison Square Gardens – both under a ten-minute walk away. Or, browse Dover Street Market, a one minute saunter from here, for its cool clothing and gourmet café. That's breakfast and lunch covered – there are many fine dining options within walking distance for dinner too. If you don't fancy eating out or cooking in, it's just a two-minute walk to the local deli, so take some goodies back and enjoy in this home's giant back garden. Inside, this quirky and charming residence is packed with original features, making it a homely place to stay in the city that never sleeps. This incredible penthouse apartment in the NoMad area of Manhattan is in a prime location to see all the sights and attractions on offer in the city that never sleeps. Plus, it offers space that you will rarely see in this city. A large indoor living area offers an ample kitchen with a breakfast bar, plenty of comfortable sofa seating, an office space with a fireplace to catch up on your work, and even a walk-in wardrobe to store all your shopping from Macy’s and Time’s Square – a twenty-three-minute walk away.

Plenty of Manhattan’s bucket list attractions are also nearby, with the East River reachable in twenty minutes on foot. The Empire State Building is only a short ten-minute walk away, or for a different view from above the city, the Rockefeller Center is reachable in twenty-seven minutes on foot. 

The home’s crowning glory, however, is the private rooftop terrace where you can enjoy your morning bagel with stunning views of the cityscape, including catching a glimpse of the top of the Empire State Building – which is a short fifteen-minute walk from here. The rooftop terrace also has comfortable seating under a shaded awning surrounded by plants, perfect for relaxing with a good book when you need a break from exploring the city. Plus, why not take a dip in the plunge pool on warmer days, and then dry off in front of the roaring fire? We would also love to return to the rooftop at night to cook on the barbecue and enjoy our meals alfresco accompanied by the fantastic panoramas and the sounds of the bustling city below.

Situated on a one-way street in the heart of Greenwich Village that Eleonor Roosevelt once called home, this six-storey Romanesque Revival building makes for a classic New York home from home.

Inside, the spacious apartment blends original nineteenth-century features and modern finishes offering a breathtaking fusion of styles. An open-plan living room/kitchen provides direct access to the outdoors via a balcony, alongside expansive views over downtown. So there's plenty of space to come together and socialise, whether you're stretched out on the sofa or preparing dinner in the handcrafted kitchen.

It's all about location, location, location here, with the subway a short walk away providing excellent travel links for sightseeing or commuting. With plenty to see on foot, you'll be walking your furry friends at Central Park or visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art in no time at all. The kitchen is well-equipped, but we think it's best for prepping lighter bites thanks to its small size. Fear not, though – you'll find a wealth of local restaurants nearby to taste all New York City has to offer.

We could certainly tell on viewing that this apartment is owned by a creative director and designer. Select a bottle from the wine cooler, choose one of the books off the well-stocked shelves and relax in style.

You can really live like a local in this home's location as well. This Lower Manhattan neighbourhood is known for its cobblestone streets lined with fashionable boutiques and chic restaurants or soak up the atmosphere in nearby China Town. Oh, yes and if you're a film buff, you can get your fill with the Tribeca Film Festival, held here every June.

Though the decor isn't particularly homey, it's been recently renovated making the bathroom and kitchen especially luxurious.

Tucked away in the Upper East Side, this cosy apartment lends itself well to a big city stay. Space is limited, but for a work trip or a weekend getaway it's got a great location, and you can even bring a furry friend for a fee. The compact kitchen lets you rustle up snacks or small meals, while the surrounding restaurants and cafes offer everything from classic bagels and cronuts to Michelin-starred cuisine. In one direction you'll find Central Park, with the scenic East River in the other. To top it all off, nearby subway stations make commuting or sightseeing a breeze.

Business travellers will be happy to see the desk – perfect if you need to do a spot of work – while those in town for sightseeing will appreciate the proximity to 23rd Street station, just eight minutes away on foot. 

Gramercy Park is a small pocket of Manhattan known for its upscale eateries and village atmosphere, and your prime locale puts you within easy walking distance of both the Flatiron Building (ten minutes) and the Empire State Building (twenty minutes). We recommend popping over to Union Square Greenmarket (a thirteen-minute walk) on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays for some fresh fruit and veg to use in a delicious dinner at home. Or if you're in the mood to go out, grab a drink and a bite to eat at one of the neighbourhood's buzzing bars, restaurants and 24-hour delis.

In the heart of New York's prestigious Upper East Side, this functional apartment serves as a homely base for families or two couples. Due to its small size, the living area feels a little cluttered – the same is true of the bedrooms, which don't offer much space beyond the bed. We also think the home doesn't get as much sunlight as we would like. That said, you have everything you need for a comfortable stay, and the location is fantastic – you're just a short walk from the East River and Central Park, and there are plenty of eateries and cafes close by.

Experience one of New York's trendiest areas from this sleek apartment nestled in the heart of Greenwich Village. You'll be within easy reach of Union Square market, with hip eateries and bars nearby. For those on a sightseeing trip, popular spots such as Flatiron Building, the Empire State Building and Madison Square Garden are all a short walk away. With a well-equipped kitchen and dining table there's potential for eating in, while the laptop-friendly desk serves as a nice space for working remotely – though some street noise should be expected.
