Your host has even gone as far as to have custom furnishings fabricated to compliment the original architecture – no off-the-peg solutions for this mid-century beauty. 

But before we dig into the details, let's address the headline act – that view! Look out over a planted perimeter of split palms, olive trees, and desert succulents (for utmost privacy) to be greeted by stunning mountain views dominated by the almost 11,000ft of Mount San Jacinto. If you'd like to experience the view from the other side, you're a ten-minute drive from Palm Springs aerial tramway, which will have you part-way to the peak in no time. 

Back at home, you're spoiled for choice when it comes to seating. Indoors or alfresco, upright or flat-out, business formal or slouchy casual? There's an almost infinite combination of seating styles and areas to relax with a book/movie/podcast. 

Three of the five bedrooms boast direct access to the soothing spa patio, and all of them are blessed with luxurious linens and full en-suite bathrooms. In addition, a perfectly maintained pool offers much-needed respite from the desert heat over the summer months. There's something lovably retro about this large apartment, from the bold colours and jazzy patterns to the eclectic selection of chairs positioned by the glass doors in the living room. Open these up and you'll step out onto the private patio space, where you can soak up the sun and admire the impressive mountain views — there's even a fire pit out there for when nighttime rears its head again. Although it's a charming space in and of itself, it's the communal facilities that guests get access to that are perhaps most impressive. The swimming pool will really come into its own on sweltering Palm Springs afternoons, as will the loungers and hot tub. We also like the practice putting green — mini clubs are provided — which should get you warmed up ahead of a visit to one of the seven golf courses that can be reached in fifteen minutes' drive. If you're not a sports person, there are plenty of hiking routes nearby, as well as restaurants and galleries on North Palm Canyon Drive, which can be reached at the end of your street.

If the interiors of this minimalist home appear to have jumped straight out of the pages of a glossy magazine, you’re not far off. This home, designed by Palmer and Kriesel is hidden away in a Palm Springs cul-de-sac and has previously graced the pages of the New York Times. Homage to all things mid-century, with Eames chairs, Nelson lamps and a vintage Malm fireplace in the master bedroom.

We were wowed by the open living area, designed with socialising in mind and with great views of the backyard. Out in the garden, reclining by the shimmering turquoise pool is the perfect way to unwind, but if you need to take your relaxing to the next level, there’s also a hot tub to bubble the night away in. Dine alfresco under the endless desert sky, then end the evening around the flickering fire pit with a glass of something strong as the sun sets behind the mountains.

When you want to venture out, downtown Palm Springs is only a five-minute drive away, and Joshua Tree National Park, roughly an hour away, is a must-see for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Visit The Palm Springs Art Museum, an eight-minute drive away which features complex sculptures, glassworks, and photographs by renowned artists such as Andy Warhol and Diane Arbus.
