This mid-century gem was built by the renowned architect Fredrick Monhoff, designer of the historic Biltmore Hotel. We love this exceptional home – it seamlessly blends the indoors and outdoors. It's the perfect place to gather with your family and friends to enjoy Palm Springs living at its best. Lounge by the inviting pool, or spend evenings star gazing next to the fire pit (there are two to choose from). Multiple water features provide soothing sounds, while the views of the mountains are fabulous, especially as the sun begins to set. Inside is no less impressive with walls of glass, chic concrete flooring and a cool bar lounge area – this home was designed for entertaining, so mix up a whiskey sour or another drink of your choice and relax. As you'd expect with a luxurious home, all the bedrooms are en-suite – the huge second-story master suite, accessed by a custom-made steel staircase, has its own dedicated sitting area overlooking the lush gardens and sparkling swimming pool. With so much on offer here, we wouldn't want to leave, but if you do want to explore out and about – the village-like atmosphere of the Tahquitz River Estates has vintage shops to browse and a diverse dining scene. For even more restaurant choices, head to Downtown Palm Springs, a five-minute drive away or under a ten-minute cycle ride on the bikes provided by your hosts.

We don't blame you if you want to spend all your time sun-soaking at your Palm oasis. However, there is plenty to do if you feel like getting to know the local area. As much as we love this home’s inside space, it’s the exterior here that really captured our imaginations. Fully equipped with a private swimming pool, firepit, and smoky barbecue, it’s the perfect place to while away gorgeous days under the hot California sun. Go for a refreshing dip in the glistening water or pick up a book from your dedicated home office and settle in for a day of reading beneath the swaying palm trees. Then, when it’s time to eat, fire up the grill and treat your fellow guests to a tasty California-style barbecue on the patio. We don’t know about you, but we can’t think of a better way to end the day.

You'll be greeted by the curved walls of Cycladic design, a private pool and hot tub, and a resort-style garden. Or, you can ascend the tower to find an observation deck that looks out over the desert – the perfect perch for cocktails. It's spread over a main house and a smaller casita and features century-old beams from a 120-year-old farmhouse and marble imported from Greece. It’s a magnificent home.

Slide open its French doors to reveal interiors worthy of a design magazine cover – vaulted ceilings, lofty bedrooms (each with their own bathroom and patio), and an achingly-cool living space that begs to be lounged around in. 

Carrying on outside, through magnificent gardens, you’ll discover a contemporary two-storey pool house that brings this place right into the 21st century, with one of the most well-equipped gyms we ever did see. But the star of the show has to be the pool and gardens. With 360-degree mountain vistas, soaring palm trees, lush lawns, and hummingbirds busy going about their day, there is no better place to be. Start the day with a few lengths in the pool and soak in the spa, before settling down on one of the many sun decks to catch some rays. 

When it’s time to rustle up a meal, fire up the barbecue in the impressive outdoor dining area, while friends gather around the fire pit. Or let a private chef take over in the gourmet kitchen, complete with a wine fridge and built-in coffee maker to cover off all the essentials. And should you be tempted to stray from this desert retreat, you’ll find downtown Palm Springs a mere fifteen minutes drive away. Though why you’d ever want to leave is anyone’s guess.

This desert home is simply breathtaking. Set in the sought-after Mesa neighbourhood, just a few minutes drive from central Palm Springs, it's a notable piece of mid-century architecture that's been reimagined to create the perfect luxurious retreat. High in the hills, with the rocky outcrops as its dramatic backdrop, it's cool, contemporary and as stylish as they come. Seemingly built into the rocky hillside itself, the steps up to the front door lead to a single storey home with vast window walls to make the most of the incredible 200-degree views over the mountain ranges, valley floor and the city. There's a comfortable living room with a cosy fireplace, which opens onto a modern kitchen with spaces to eat as a group both indoors and out. And while two fabulous bedrooms are in the central part of the house, the added casita is just on the other side of the outdoor lounge area and boasts metallic walls and a graffiti wall of song lyrics behind the bed, which gives it its nickname 'Love Shack'. Add in a few bonus features like an outdoor bar, barbecue, fire pits, infinity pool with a spa, and we think this place is really rather special.

If the interiors of this minimalist home appear to have jumped straight out of the pages of a glossy magazine, you’re not far off. This home, designed by Palmer and Kriesel is hidden away in a Palm Springs cul-de-sac and has previously graced the pages of the New York Times. Homage to all things mid-century, with Eames chairs, Nelson lamps and a vintage Malm fireplace in the master bedroom.

We were wowed by the open living area, designed with socialising in mind and with great views of the backyard. Out in the garden, reclining by the shimmering turquoise pool is the perfect way to unwind, but if you need to take your relaxing to the next level, there’s also a hot tub to bubble the night away in. Dine alfresco under the endless desert sky, then end the evening around the flickering fire pit with a glass of something strong as the sun sets behind the mountains.

When you want to venture out, downtown Palm Springs is only a five-minute drive away, and Joshua Tree National Park, roughly an hour away, is a must-see for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Visit The Palm Springs Art Museum, an eight-minute drive away which features complex sculptures, glassworks, and photographs by renowned artists such as Andy Warhol and Diane Arbus.

Enjoy soothing afternoons in the garden,  lounging by the pool or playing garden games, before serving up an alfresco meal at the outdoor dining area. With towering Palm trees providing some much-needed shade and seclusion – you'll have your very own slice of desert peace and privacy when staying here.

Part of a country club with an impressive list of shared facilities, this little gem is a colourful, cosy home for a couple or a solo traveller. Whether you're here to play golf and sun yourself or to hike in the mountains, this is the perfect base in Palm Springs. Plus its styling gives a more than passing nod to the atomic era, with a 1960s-style tulip dining table and sputnik-inspired curtains. 

Here the toughest decision you need to make is which activity to choose from between the on-site tennis, golf or swimming pools. There's a clubhouse restaurant and cocktail lounge to try out, but it's just a five-minute drive to downtown for all the restaurants and shops you could need. And when you get home, sip drinks on your terrace with views of the surrounding mountians.

Beautifully appointed in the shades of the San Jacinto Mountains, this glamorous home captures the new-age modernist vibe of the LA desert. Stepping out to look around the garden, you'll notice tall swaying palms, vibrant red chairs and a sparking saline swimming pool with an integrated waterfall spa. Here, you'll also find a barbecue island bar with chic stools to perch on while sipping cocktails – we certainly know where we'd spend our time. Sliding glass doors welcome you into the living space, blurring the boundaries between outside and in, so you can gaze into the picturesque mountain silhouettes whether you are. Inside, there's a modern look with high vaulted ceilings, polished marble floors and a swanky chef's kitchen – enjoy a quick cup of coffee around the curved breakfast bar. Bright and roomy, all the bedrooms have their own personalities and open up to an outside area. They're also accompanied by some seriously stunning en-suite bathrooms – we could think of nothing better than taking a long soak in the freestanding bathtub to wash that chlorine off. In a historic tennis club neighbourhood, you're surrounded by great walking trails as well as the Palm Canyon Drive that will take just a six-minute car ride to reach. Flourishing with upscale shops, indie coffee houses and some excellent restaurants, there's plenty to explore. A sixteen-minute stroll north will find you in Downtown Palm Springs, boasting fancy boulevards and the glitz and glam of Hollywood. With so much around you, we think this mid-century pool pad is as convenient as it is stylish.
