This home is the ideal place to stay for a group of friends or family looking to explore San Diego. It's just ten minutes by car from downtown and the world-famous San Diego Zoo and about a fifteen-minute drive from the beach. That being said, you won't feel as if you're in a showroom, thanks to the bountiful amount of space dedicated to relaxation — our favourite has to be the balcony on the first floor that puts you at tree-top level. The location is superb, too. Balboa Park — which holds San Diego Zoo — can be reached in under fifteen minutes on foot, while you can drive to Coronado Beach in ten minutes.

If you’re a thrill-seeker, hop on one of the supplied beach cruisers and ride the half mile down the front to Belmont Park’s Big Dipper. As the sun starts to dip in the sky, de-sand the kids ahead of pre-dinner drinks on the outdoor sofa. There’s a barbecue, and the sleek kitchen is a pleasure to cook in, but if you’d rather somebody else did the work, then you’re within walking distance of Mission Beach’s colourful restaurants and cafes.

Boasting delightful views over San Diego Bay, the home is just three blocks from India Street in the centre of Little Italy, where a vast range of wonderful restaurants await your visit. On top of that, Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo, Hillcrest and Downtown are all within walking distance, so you really won't be running out of things to do and see. Of course, it only helps that Afternoon Delight is also a wonderful space to call home. This modern build can accommodate up to five guests comfortably, with one of them sleeping on the double pull-down bed in the second living space. The rest of the home has been beautifully furnished and boasts modern amenities and appliances for a relaxing stay.

This home is all about outdoor living, from the front yard with its private barbecue pit to the serene back courtyard’s fire pit and second barbecue station. Inside is designed with detail in mind. Create in the cook’s kitchen, entertain in the open-plan living space and find solitude in the comfortable bedrooms. The master bedroom impresses with vaulted ceilings, a central feature fireplace and en-suite. You’re just two blocks from the beach; take the supplied bikes and cruise around the relaxed neighbourhood of Ocean Beach and over to the cliffs for some stunning views. Try some surf lessons, visit the farmer's market, and pop to the cafe next door for delicious acai bowls and sandwiches.

This small-but-mighty home is a great base to immerse yourself in the bohemian lifestyle of Ocean Beach. Secluded among lush greenery with the call of the ocean just two blocks away, the compact space is nicely set up. Start your day at the breakfast bar with a rocket-fuel coffee, then grab your sunnies and towel and head down to the shore. 

Your stay here may seem to fly by as you while the days away on Newport Avenue uncovering unique pieces at vintage stores or people-watching in one of the many coffee shops. After dark, the area buzzes with live music and entertainment from trendy bars and restaurants. It’s also a short drive from downtown San Diego if you’re craving city life, or you can get your nature fix exploring the scenic coastal paths.

Come evening, head back to your abode. You’ll find the communal outdoor space is more than big enough for socialising – share a bottle of California white wine on the patio or get the fire pit going to toast marshmallows.

Just a few footsteps take you straight to South Mission Beach, where you have amazing restaurants, bars, and markets at your fingertips. While the beach is hard to tear yourself away from, we'd spare some time to explore nearby golf courses, shops, and the good old Giant Dipper Roller Coaster at the Belmont Amusement Park – all just a short walk away. At the end of the day, you can return to your modern-Victorian home for a soak in the tub and a barbecue in the private courtyard.

We couldn't think of a dreamier way to start and end your days here than with a leisurely stroll along the bayside boardwalks. Or better still, make footprints in the sand as you listen to the waves crash before you on the beach itself.

If you need a rest, take a moment to pause on the golden sands of South Mission Beach and soak up the rays. Back at home you can soak your muscles in the shared spa pool, before refuelling with a barbecue on the beach or a bite from one of nearby Mission Boulevard's hip cafés.

Here, you'll find a space blessed with high ceilings and a wall of glass with breathtaking views that leads directly onto a vast twenty-six-foot balcony running the length of the house. Pour yourself a welcome glass of Prosecco from the fridge and relax as you gaze out at the ocean and the planes coming in to land at the airport. Whether you're in town for work or play, location is key, and you couldn't be better placed here – just minutes from San Diego International Airport, Little Italy, Downtown Gaslamp, and the area's beaches. That said, there are plenty of wonderful cafes and historic neighbourhoods within walking distance, so you don't have to rely on four wheels all the time. And even when you're looking to travel further afield, it's a short stroll to the trolley stop, which can whisk you to the Gaslamp Quarter. Alternatively, take the COASTER train north to chic beach towns like Solana Beach, Encinitas and Carlsbad. There's also a balcony with fantastic views over the water – it would be difficult to find a more perfect spot to relax on a lounger with a good book. 

With Sail Bay right on your doorstep, and Mission Beach only a five-minute walk away, you're likely to spend much of your time on the sand. Adventurous guests can try their hand at surfing, scuba diving, and paddleboarding in the Pacific – there are plenty of water sports centres offering lessons nearby. And, with iconic Belmont Park just a three-minute drive away, and the historic Gaslamp Quarter fifteen minutes away by car, you're not likely to run out of things to do here. 

Secret Mission

Although this home sits directly opposite San Diego's famous Mission Bay, there are plenty of perks at the address to stop you from immediately fleeing to the boardwalks and beaches.

The swimming pool and adjoining spa are glorious spots in which to enjoy the SoCal summers, while there's also an alfresco table under a parasol as well as a cabana with an impressively equipped outdoor kitchen whenever you're in need of a little shade. Add to that a rooftop terrace that offers glorious waterfront views, as well as a couple of balconies for good measure, and you've got an address in which you barely need to head inside.

That being said, you won't be disappointed when you finally get around to doing just that. The large glass windows let in plenty of sunshine and also look out to views of leafy palm trees. We're big fans of the sleek kitchen and equally stylish bathrooms, including one with a steam shower.

There may come a point when you fancy seeing a little more of the local area and Mission Bay sits literally just around the corner, offering plentiful opportunities for swimming and watersports. The centre of San Diego and Balboa Park both take a quarter of an hour to reach in the car, too.
