Seaside tranquillity is what you'll find at this lovely condo, located minutes away from Mission Bay. It's decked out in relaxing grey, white and turquoise hues that mirror the views of the waterfront – you'll hardly be able to tear your eyes away from the huge windows in the living room. It's quite compact, but this home is in a great location for active holidays on the South California coast. Take a paddle board to the surf – there’s one provided – or cycle along the peninsula using one of the free bikes. If you need a rest, take a moment to pause on the golden sands of South Mission Beach and soak up the rays. Back at home you can soak your muscles in the shared spa pool, before refuelling with a barbecue on the beach or a bite from one of nearby Mission Boulevard's hip cafés.

Head out the door of this immaculate beach house and you’ll find yourself just seconds away from the golden sands of Mission Beach. Inside, the cool coastal palette reflects the dreamy beachfront location, with accents of driftwood and natural rattan, and there are excellent views of the ocean from the large sun deck. Be the first to bag a spot on the sand and set up camp for the day – the host supplies beach chairs, boogie boards and towels so you’ll be well equipped. That said, you’re so close that you can easily zip back for a forgotten umbrella or some sun cream. If you’re a thrill-seeker, hop on one of the supplied beach cruisers and ride the half mile down the front to Belmont Park’s Big Dipper. As the sun starts to dip in the sky, de-sand the kids ahead of pre-dinner drinks on the outdoor sofa. There’s a barbecue, and the sleek kitchen is a pleasure to cook in, but if you’d rather somebody else did the work, then you’re within walking distance of Mission Beach’s colourful restaurants and cafes.

Chill out in the fully air-conditioned home, and drink fresh juice in the mornings as you slowly wake up at the breakfast bar. The living room comes with a fireplace and custom flat-screen TV, so you can stream your favourite shows or just put your feet up and relax by the crackling fire.

Just a one-minute walk from Mission Beach in sunny San Diego, this beautiful beach cottage is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing coastal break. Built in the 1930s and stunningly renovated with a boho-beach vibe, you’ll feel instantly laid-back from the moment you walk through the door. Wood floors, white walls and bamboo blinds set the scene in the bright living room with its Dutch door to let the ocean breeze flow through, while the master bedroom exudes beach bliss with its wall of wicker ornaments. The second bedroom has a peaceful jungle feel with its forest green walls and even has a desk space with built-in charging ports should you need to catch up on emails before a day of sun and sand. Outside on the front porch, there’s a deck set up with a table and chairs ready to host alfresco dinners and lazy afternoons enjoying the welcome snacks and drinks provided. You’ll be sure to stay cool here too thanks to the overhead fan. When you’re not hanging out in your peaceful pad, grab the sun chairs, umbrella, sand toys and beach towels offered and head to the beach. With large glass doors that lead out onto the private balcony, you could easily float the day away just watching the rolling tide. Grab an iced coffee and retreat to the cushioned rattan chairs and kick back in style. This is the ideal spot to enjoy some open–air dining, too. With a table and chairs ready to use, here you can indulge in some of the West Coast’s best–loved bites with a sensational view of the coastline beyond. We’re talking tacos, burgers, burritos – the full shebang. It’s time to tuck in.
Inside, it’s warm and welcoming with some lavish finishing touches. Granite countertops bring an element of grandeur, as do the travertine floors, meanwhile the plush leather furnishings promise to keep you comfy whatever the day has in store.

Or, you might prefer to flip some burgers on the outdoor grill, and enjoy an alfresco feast in the warm Californian sunshine. There's also a balcony with fantastic views over the water – it would be difficult to find a more perfect spot to relax on a lounger with a good book. 

With Sail Bay right on your doorstep, and Mission Beach only a five-minute walk away, you're likely to spend much of your time on the sand. Adventurous guests can try their hand at surfing, scuba diving, and paddleboarding in the Pacific – there are plenty of water sports centres offering lessons nearby. And, with iconic Belmont Park just a three-minute drive away, and the historic Gaslamp Quarter fifteen minutes away by car, you're not likely to run out of things to do here.

Prepare to be left speechless by the view as you open up the 32-foot retractable sliding doors to soak up the ocean breeze at this beachfront home. With glass walls offering unobstructed views of the beach and boardwalk, you'll be awestruck from the moment you arrive. The open concept kitchen is perfect for entertaining, with its sleek counters, polished stainless steel accents and imported stone flooring. Though it's not the biggest space, the floor plan has been cleverly designed to include a cool dining nook and plush living area, and a quick slide of the glazed frontage makes the space immediately double in size. With the soft, powdery sand of the beach literally on your doorstep, we doubt you'll want to go far. But if you do, you'll find an array of shops, restaurants and bars just a stone's throw away. 

My Blue Ocean

Known for its pristine beaches and optimal climate, San Diego is already a gem on the west coast of America. The fact that this beach cottage can also be found in the Mission Bay area makes the trip out to San Diego even more of a must. Ideal for a family stay or reunion of friends, think of this home as a portal to all things spectacular. The beach, for one, is a quick walk away, and so are a number of great restaurants and markets. Belmont Park is ready to keep you company for hours, but we especially recommend seeing it at night when all the lights make it feel extra magical. 

Spending time at home will likely result in burgers grilling on the barbecue outside – stay out there for long after, even as the sun begins to dip, to bask in the holiday feeling. The fireplace is great for colder nights where you can enjoy takeout around the fire before playing a round of Monopoly. Hit the boardwalk on balmier evenings and if you happen to end up with a taco in one hand and a frozen margarita in the other, well, we call that a good night.

You won’t get much closer to the beach than this San Diego villa, nudged up to the golden sands of South Mission. With panoramic sea views, you’re in a prime position for watching the sunset over the North Pacific Ocean from the beachfront terrace or balcony. Located close to the seafront boardwalk, with volleyball courts, a playground, and calm waters nearby, it’s a great choice for families. It’s worth noting that this villa is only available with five bedrooms and four bathrooms during the summer – at other times it’s rented as a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home that sleeps ten.

Rock Bottom

Although this home sits directly opposite San Diego's famous Mission Bay, there are plenty of perks at the address to stop you from immediately fleeing to the boardwalks and beaches.

The swimming pool and adjoining spa are glorious spots in which to enjoy the SoCal summers, while there's also an alfresco table under a parasol as well as a cabana with an impressively equipped outdoor kitchen whenever you're in need of a little shade. Add to that a rooftop terrace that offers glorious waterfront views, as well as a couple of balconies for good measure, and you've got an address in which you barely need to head inside.

That being said, you won't be disappointed when you finally get around to doing just that. The large glass windows let in plenty of sunshine and also look out to views of leafy palm trees. We're big fans of the sleek kitchen and equally stylish bathrooms, including one with a steam shower.

There may come a point when you fancy seeing a little more of the local area and Mission Bay sits literally just around the corner, offering plentiful opportunities for swimming and watersports. The centre of San Diego and Balboa Park both take a quarter of an hour to reach in the car, too.


Man on a Mission

If you're partial to dazzling coastal views, this home in Mission Beach will leave your jaw on the floor. It sits between the bay and the ocean, boasting proximity to soft white sands and gentle basin waters in just three minutes on foot. From here, you're also within easy reach of the peninsula's shop-lined artery, Mission Boulevard, brimming with hip cafés and delectable eateries for those post-surf nibbles.

This home impresses from the outset with its multi-tiered concrete facade. The chic, free-flowing interior exudes calm, cloaked in rich, earthy tones and bursts of colour. Large windows usher in floods of sunlight, and we love the open-plan living space, primed for entertaining with plush upholstery, a spacious breakfast bar and a fully-equipped kitchen. Though, the real highlight is the outdoor space. Positioned across three levels, a balcony, barbecue patio, and furnished sundeck offer sweeping views of the bay and the Pacific Ocean's endless blue. After a day of adventure, rustle up an alfresco feast on the grill or enjoy a glass of wine on the rooftop patio as the sun dips below the horizon.
