Plum Guide's Favourite Romantic Getaways in Colorado
A few ways to snuggle up with your chosen one in the luxury of the Rockies.
Speckled across the valleys and slopes of the Rocky Mountains are charming villages and towns, that light up at night like pockets of honey in the dark recesses between the peaks. Sounds quite cosy and romantic, right? Add to that the hot springs, spas and internationally acclaimed deluxe ski resorts, and you might just have one of the best destinations in the world for romantic getaways.
You can rub shoulders with celebs in some of the state’s best in fine dining, or find total seclusion on the nature trails of the national parks. In any case, you’ll be able to go home and rest those weary legs (or bloated bellies) in the luxurious confines of our Plum Guide homes, which are dotted all around the region. To make sure your romantic getaway in Colorado goes swimmingly, we’ve spent years making trips to these homes and ensuring they’re just right.
With its huge mountain draped in snow, Telluride makes for a perfect romantic getaway in Colorado. Spend winter with your partner (or partners, we don’t judge). Enjoy a dreamy date at the Cosmopolitan, where you can get sultry over sushi (not sure what that means, but we like the sibilance). Allred’s Restaurant serves up top-notch American cuisine, while La Marmotte is a quaint spot for French food. What could be more romantique? Nous ne savons pas.
Get a couple’s massage at one of the deluxe spas, as the perfect relaxation treatment following a day of skiing. The Dunton Hot Springs makes use of former mining cabins to form a luxurious spa centre. Heaven Can Wait has acclaimed massage therapy, while the Himmel Spa & Health Club has a rooftop hot tub with spectacular views of the mountains. Sip drinks with your partner in the tub, as the sun descends over the horizon.
When it comes to romantic getaways in Colorado, we couldn’t exactly fail to mention Aspen. It’s the home of the rich and famous, so you’ll fit right in, right? Go skiing down one of its four mountains, criss-crossing and forming heart formations in the snow with your chosen one(s). Obviously, only do that if you’re an expert skier: we don’t want you knocking over any children who might be in the way just so you could make a soppy gesture.
Ski at one of the exclusive resorts across the town. The Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort has a system where you can ski right from the pistes to the spa, for a rub down and massage that’ll take the weariness out of those tired legs. You’ll also find romance aplenty at the Aspen Mountain Ski Resort, the Aspen Highlands Ski Resort and the Buttermilk Ski Resort. Of course, when it comes to the actual staying, lodging and sleeping, our Plum Guide homes in Aspen have been tested and assessed to make sure they’re just right for you.
As its name suggests, Steamboat Springs has thermal waters all over the place, and enjoying a day at a spa for two is the perfect way to spend a romantic getaway in Colorado. When recovered, take on some of the nature trails for a glimpse of the region’s picturesque topography. You’ll encounter the Fish Creek Falls, the Yampa River Botanic Park and the Yampa River Core Trail. It’s all about the Yampa.
As evening falls, enjoy the views of the lights on the Yampa Valley. Winter is great for skiing, with the Steamboat Ski Resort among the best places in Colorado to do it. Take classes with your loved one and secretly resent them for being better than you and picking it up faster. No more chocolates and love songs for them. We’ve even got a range of stunning homes in Steamboat Springs that serve as an idyllic spot for the argument that evening.
Estes Park makes for a perfect Colorado romantic getaway, particularly in the summer. Go for a simple walk around the tranquil Lake Estes or go fishing together for trout. That’d be great for some couples, but hey, maybe fishing isn’t your bag. So, after a quick trip in a cable car to the top of Prospect Mountain and some time at the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, take your lover for a fancy night out at one of the city’s top restaurants. SEASONED-An American Bistro, the Twin Owls Steakhouse and the View Restaurant at the Historic Crags Lodge are among the most exclusive and romantic spots. The latter has stunning views of the Rocky Mountains. Speaking of picturesque vistas, get a load of our homes in Colorado near Estes Park.
