Located right opposite the four key buildings of Catalan Modernism, this fabulous home wakes you up with just about the best view in town. Even the building itself is impressive, built in the 1940s by the host's architect grandfather, a close friend and disciple of Gaudi. Host and designer Nuria is responsible for the art and the look of luxury – we have her to thank for the kitchen triptych and the subtle Gaudí tile homage in the bathrooms. It's hard to choose favourites in a home as perfect as this one, but if we had to, we'd go for the living room mirador – again, for the view. Enjoy the spectacular vistas on the balcony with a bottle of complimentary premium cava – we especially love it here as dusk falls and the architectural masterpieces are lit up. We also adore the bath in the master suite – a lovely romantic touch to this tranquil retreat. If all this wasn't enough, there's a luxury club, two swimming pools and a gym here. Let the concierge service arrange an array of tailor-made experiences from tapas tours to chocolate tasting. If you prefer to explore independently, of course, you can start with the UNESCO World Heritage site of Casa Batlló, a two-minute walk, while this penthouse is right on Paseo De Gracia with all its museums and designer boutiques. This place offers the quality of a luxury hotel and the ultimate Barcelona experience.

Fair and Square, Rome, Italy

Don't get us wrong, we love this Rome apartment's contemporary interior with its bold artwork and the vast collection of books, but this address is all about the balcony. Covered with mosaic tiling and climbing plants, it's a pretty enough spot in and of itself. However, where it really shines is with the view out over the Piazza del Popolo with its Egyptian obelisk in the centre and majestic fountains on either side. Overlooking the whole scene are the towering trees from the Villa Borghese — a huge park that can be reached in five minutes from your front door. It's the sort of picturesque vantage point that people search the city for, but you'll have it all to yourself. We can imagine nothing better than espresso-sipping and people-watching as the city comes to life in the morning. If you need a change of scenery, however, you can walk to the banks of the River Tiber in under five minutes or stroll over to see the Trevi Fountain in under twenty.

Arrive at this Cornish stone home and find yourself immediately drawn out onto the balcony – overlook the grassy fields straight to the sparkling ocean. With the patio set and barbecue, you’ll probably spend a lot of your holiday out here – it’s hard to pull yourself away from that view. Inside though is nearly as pleasing, white-washed walls and wooden beams complementing a bright space with farmhouse furniture. Prepare breakfast in the decked-out kitchen to enjoy out on the patio before exploring the surrounding town of Marazion, a historic coastal town with an artisan feel and a causeway to the gorgeous St Michael’s Mount. Take a tranquil evening walk along Praa Sands Beach or watch a show at the stunning Minnack Theatre – an open-air theatre jutting out onto the Atlantic sea.

This sunshine-filled home is spread across two floors. The interior design combines tropical touches with seaside chic, using white-painted walls and minimalist furniture to create a light and fresh-feeling space. We particularly love the rattan chairs and woven rugs. Relax into the rhythm of San Diego when you stay at this home; it’s perfect for entertaining groups of friends as it’s made up of two units. Shaded by a striped umbrella, the outdoor dining table is perfect for lunch alfresco. Enjoy a cold beer on the wooden deck and in the evenings, make new memories around the fire pit. Both the upstairs unit and downstairs has an open living space and kitchen, so if you’re travelling with two families, there’s the option of complete privacy. The top floor boasts a balcony with panoramic views over San Diego. Located in Spruce Canyon, this home is conveniently close to the airport, but it’s also within a quick driving distance to Old Town and Balboa Park. We recommend making the 10-minute journey to Spruce Street Suspension Bridge for its picturesque forest vistas.
